Eligibility with Google Fi

Important:

  • iPhones and iPads aren't compatible with Google Pixel Watches and Samsung Galaxy Watches on Google Fi.
  • You can have one smartwatch per account, separate from data-only SIMs.
  • Your watch shares your device’s number and can’t activate on a standalone plan.
  • To activate LTE service on Google Fi, you must use a supported model sold for use in the US. The service doesn't support international models.

To use a smartwatch with Google Fi:

  • Your device needs to run on Android 13 or higher.
  • You must have an active Google Fi plan.
  • Your watch must be Google Pixel Watch first generation and newer or Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and newer.
  • Your watch must pair with an active Android phone on Google Fi.

Set up & activate your watch

Important:

  • Before you begin, turn your device and watch Bluetooth on.
  • Do not scan a QR code for activation.
  1. On your device, install these apps:
    • For Google Pixel Watch: Install the Google Fi app and the Google Pixel Watch app.
    • For Samsung Galaxy Watch: Install the Google Fi app and the Galaxy Wearable app.
  2. Pair your watch with your device:
    1. Open the companion app for your Google Pixel Watch or Galaxy Wearable.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Activate on Google Fi: During pairing, you can find a screen for mobile service.
    1. Select your Google Fi account and then Set up or buy a plan.
      • IMPORTANT: It is not recommended to select the option for two years of data and texting from Google Fi. For most users, you should activate calling, data and texting from Google Fi.
    2. Wait for the activation to complete.

Troubleshoot activation issues

If your watch doesn’t activate:

  1. Check for updates:
    1. On your device, open Google Play Store.
    2. Make sure these apps are up to date:
      • Google Fi
      • Google Pixel Watch or Galaxy Wearable
  2. Verify your account: Make sure you’re signed in to all apps with the correct Google Fi account email address and that your Google Fi service is active.
  3. Clear the Google Fi app cache:
    1. On your phone, go to Settings and then Apps.
    2. Select the Google Fi app.
    3. Tap Storage & cache and then Clear cache and then Clear storage.
    4. Sign in to the Google Fi app again.
  4. Restart the process: If activation is unsuccessful, reset your watch. Repeat the pairing and activation steps.

Using your watch with Google Fi

When you use your Google Pixel Watch first generation and newer or Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and newer with Google Fi, you don’t have to be connected to your Google Fi phone to call, text, or use data, no matter what plan you are on.

Although you can use your watch in the US, Canada, and Mexico, you don’t have connectivity in other countries or regions. Your device connects through T-Mobile's network.

Tips:

  • If you're on an iPhone or iPad, you can’t use data, call, or text through your watch.
  • If your phone is off or out of coverage, your watch may not send or receive texts successfully.
