I own print copies of all of Austin Kleon's books and I keep them in my art studio bathroom for rereading often. His newsletter is also a must-read for me especially whenever I need a jolt of encouragement.
Thinking about my own thinking is what I use as a creative prompt in my sketchbook and I recommend Beyond Debate because it's a well written examination of thinking while also living in a highly media-saturated world where things aren't always what they seem.
I love how Subtle Maneuvers includes art history as well as practical encouragement for artists. It's an enjoyable read.
I love the photos of nature - and the kindness, gentleness of the writer!! It's a calming soothing newsletter and that's why I like it!!
Reading Coffee Times often reminds me that all learning is self-learning which gives us the ability to empathize and connect with other people and the natural world.
Ramona Grigg is the great aunt we always wished for - honest, wise, no-nonsense, has a good sense of humor and will probably let us have a cookie before dinner if we ask nicely. Ramona also writes "Writer Everlasting" which I also recommend for other writers!
Allie is very thoughtful and careful in her writing about living a creative life. When she interviewed me about my work she asked good questions and put it all together skillfully. I appreciate seeing thought, care and skill woven together with kindness.
This newsletter is a valuable resource for remembering aspects of good-self-talk and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques... which I use in my life and artwork.
I enjoy this newsletter because it showcases the ways visual artists and illustrators can and do capture the history, politics and culture of the moment. Humans are visual beings and awareness of visual history is helpful for understanding the world.
This well written whimsical newsletter about writing well (pun intended) often includes new approaches and attitudes towards creativity. Often a book is recommended for further study. This newsletter is a pleasure to read.
