Please ask your legislators to VOTE YES on S1008 - Colleges, concealed weapons: legislature.idaho.gov/s…

S1008 is a clear, simple, one-page bill that would prohibit colleges and universities from banning or regulating the otherwise legal possession of firearms and remove the threats currently used to infringe on this right.

This should be a straightforward YES vote to preserve our US and Idaho Constitutions guaranteed rights to keep and bear arms. Regardless of how we personally feel about "guns and gun control," we must remember: It's not the weapon carried, but the behavior while carrying that weapon that matters. Anything can be a weapon β€” hands, knives, bats, even credit cards. None of the aforementioned weapons is regulated or prohibited. Only the commission of a crime using weapons β€” whatever their size, shape, or caliber β€” should be regulated or prohibited.

NOTE: S1008 protects the rights of law abiding citizens. Criminals don't care what the laws are and will obtain and use guns whether they are permitted or not. When criminals know someone may be armed, they may be less likely to commit a crime on a college or university campus.

S1008 does the following:

  • Repeals and replaces Section 18-3309, Idaho Code, which allows colleges and universities "to prescribe rules and regulations relating to firearms," with certain exceptions.

  • Replaces the abovementioned section with a straightforward declaration that colleges and universities must adhere to the same standards as the rest of Idaho with respect to the individual right to keep and bear arms.
