Oh, the thrill of the thrift. I’ve never been a natural—unless you count TheRealReal deep dives or hyper-specific searches on Vestiaire Collective or Poshmark. My finds have always been brand-driven, the result of obsessive searching and saving items. And often frustrating, as 9/10 times If I save something for later on the RealReal? It’s gone within the week. When it comes to thrifting in the wild, I have yet to find my sweet spot—a place where I can find stuff that is equally unique, affordable, and actually pairs well back to my wardrobe.

That said, I want to be better. I want to discover the unexpected—brandless gems, pieces a little outside my comfort zone, something that shows a different side of me. And a search that doesn’t require a lot of effort.

Now there’s a tool to help me get there. And it’s actually fun.

Meet Thursday

Built by a group of college seniors at Carnegie Mellon—now freshly graduated—I had the pleasure of meeting this dream team while they were still in classes, pitching at competitions, throwing Thursday events on campus, and yes, making money. I was instantly struck by how thoughtfully they approached thrifting.

While I’m not a seasoned thrifter, I did start my career in the TJX (TJ Maxx/Marshalls) Buying/Planning team—and that taught me the power of the treasure hunt. TJ’s off-price model pulled in over $52B in net sales last year, proof that when discovery is done right, it drives real behavior. Thursday is bringing that same energy into Gen Z’s world—with a new format, fresh voice, and awesome UX.

This isn’t Depop 2.0—it’s intentional drops, IRL community energy, and swipeable mechanics that keep you coming back.

They just raised (!!) some funds, they’re growing the team, expanding to new cities, and hosting events in all the right places with all the right people. I’m excited to join in—Cloud Closet × Thursday event is already brewing.

What Sets Thursday Apart

  • Swipe, Don’t Scroll
A mobile-native experience that replaces endless browsing with a faster, more intuitive way to shop secondhand.

  • Drop-Led Discovery
Weekly Thursday drops create rhythm, urgency, and repeat engagement. Shoppers know when to show up—and that what’s there won’t last.

  • IRL-First Testing Ground
Thursday launched through on-campus events and real-world pop-ups, validating demand before ever building a feed. It’s a digital platform with offline roots.

  • Digitizing the Undigitized
This might be my favorite point. Thrift stores with no e-comm infrastructure can now upload inventory and reach a broader, younger audience—without needing tech of their own. Think Faire 2.0, in my opinion.

Perfect Timing

Gen Z Already Shops Resale—But the Format’s Broken
Resale platforms are cluttered, slow, and overwhelming. Thursday makes secondhand feel fresh, fast, and intentional.

Structure Without Sterility
Thursday organizes the chaos of thrift without losing the charm. It’s edited, time-boxed, and easy to engage—without the pressure of perfection.

Thursday threads together drop culture, thrift discovery, and Gen Z-native UX in a way that actually works. Where they take it next is anyone’s guess—but I’ll be there, thumb ready, come Thursday. Download the app today.
