Individual Study Plan & Practitioner-Focused Dissertation

Before diving deep, every doctoral candidate begins with something foundational: a preliminary research proposal. Think of it as your blueprint—typically 8 to 10 pages—outlining the scope, significance and approach of your project. To make the process manageable and efficient, a preformatted template is readily available for download on the portal.

Candidates are encouraged to complete and submit their initial proposal within the first month of enrolment. Once submitted, it’s reviewed by your assigned supervisor or faculty mentor, who will offer structured feedback to refine your research direction early on.
Admission Requirements

Choosing Your Project: Meaningful Work, Measurable Impact

When it comes to selecting your dissertation topic, flexibility meets relevance. You’re not limited to abstract theory—instead, your project should align with your field experience and professional goals. Options might include:

  • A single-subject investigation into an emerging intervention, system, or initiative.
  • Action Research or Participatory Action Research, ideal for programme evaluation and social innovation.
  • A field study grounded in real-world testing of theoretical models.
  • A survey-based analysis capturing insights from specific industries or communities.
  • A business process improvement initiative, where operational value meets academic rigour.

Whichever route you choose, your project will demand a deep dive into scholarly literature and a well-reasoned structure. It’s more than research—it’s your opportunity to generate knowledge that translates to practise, influence and leadership.

The goal? To shape scholar-practitioners who don’t just understand theory—they act on it. Ideally, you’ll focus on a challenge or idea where you already have significant field expertise—this makes your findings not only credible, but immediately applicable in your organisation or industry.
