I finally got back from Portland.. I did go and I saw Lovers, some Swan band, and The Gossip, who I think were having a CD release show.. they were also filming the thing. The show was $14. I got there in time to see one-and-a-half Lovers songs. That was the completely miserable part. The rest was okay. I am more excited about Portland as a place than I used to be. The trip there was good, the way back was lame and tiring. But I had a pretty good time.. I'll write about it more later after I do some work.

    <lj:music>four tops - remember when</lj:music>

It's a nice lazy Monday... full of despair like always.

Whitehouse.gov quotes Bush on the cause for slow Katrina response: "And I myself thought we had dodged a bullet. You know why? Because I was listening to people probably over the airwaves say, The bullet has been dodged. And that was what I was referring to."

Probably over the airwaves. The airwaves they said they weren't receiving so didn't know until Thursday about those people stuck in the Convention Center?

President Bush, after being asked whether he was ‘misinformed’ by his advisors before he said that no one anticipated the breach of the levees:

What I was referring to is this: When that storm came by, a lot of people said we dodged a bullet. When that storm came through at first, people said, Whew. There was a sense of relaxation. And that’s what I was referring to.

And I myself thought we had dodged a bullet. You know why? Because I was listening to people probably over the airwaves say, The bullet has been dodged. And that was what I was referring to.

Of course, there were plans in case the levee had been breached. There was a sense of relaxation at a critical moment.

President Bush’s story doesn’t hold up.

As our timeline shows, Bush learned of the serious potential that the levees could be topped as early as Sunday, well before the storm hit, during a briefing with the National Hurricane Center director. More importantly, water was flowing over the levees before Katrina hit land at 6:30 a.m. (By late Sunday night, waves were crashing over the levee walkway. By 3 a.m. on Monday, they had failed.)

So Bush’s “sense of relaxation” came long after the levees had been breached. - thinkprogress.org

sources:
whitehouse.gov
sptimes.com
nola.com
mercurynews.com

This is my question for the people who support Bush: Even if he has never actually done anything wrong, why should we support someone that has continually lied and continues to lie to us every time he speaks? These supporters of his deny his wrongdoing, how long can they continue to deny all these blatant lies as well? Both are so obvious, I just don't understand.

How do you support a guy who leaves his post for five weeks? Who ignores major disasters as long as possible in order to keep the five weeks intact? Who has no accountability? Who continuously lies and spins around everything and tries to decieve everybody? Who is religiously hypocritical? And on and on...

Obama weighs in

Barack Obama (D-Sen, Illionis) was a guest on This Week (ABC News), commenting on the Katrina debacle.

(video)

Rough transcript:

Barack: I think it points to one of the big problems in this administration. They have excellent responses when it comes to PR, more detachment and less effectiveness when it comes to governing. I think that's been true in Iraq, it's been true across the board. A good example, we had a cabinet meeting this week, the senators had eight cabinet members, Donald Rumsfeld, Michael Chertoff. What was striking was even if people were reading the statistics of all the evacuations that had taken place-were telling us of all the wonderful things that have been done. There was no sense of reflection, no sense that things didn't go the way they were supposed to and that we needed to take away some lessons learned....There was a terrific spin operation, but not the kind of soul searching that I'd think you'd want to see from any administration, Democrats or Republicans..."

He points out the widening divide in America between the rich and the poor and the continual increase in poverty.

Also, Michael Brown has resigned from FEMA. The government has half-imploded over this deal. The sad thing is that they're trying to somehow pretend they haven't.

Last night we saw a huge line on the way back from Hattie's Hat, and quickly determined it was for the Harry Potter book. So then Ryan just had to go ask one of them if that's definitely what it was, and then he called out "Yea, it's Potter!" Then he just spent the rest of the time yelling "Potter!" in the general direction of people and out the car window as we passed the line.

The drinks I had last night affected me more than they should have, I must have been more dehydrated or not had enough food, hell I don't know, but I was a little more out of it than usual and this morning I felt terrible. I wanted it all to end, because my head hurt so much it was awful. I had such a headache that I couldn't sleep (again) and slept for 3 hours. Got up, eventually tried to go get some meds, picked up some Nyquil hoping it would be a two-fer and do something about my coughing which had gotten really bad last night and also do something about the headache/hangover. But I took 1/2 a dose and then spent the next hour and a half feeling like I was eventually going to throw up. I never did, of course, but just felt that way on top of the insane headache. I felt so gross that I couldn't even stand to take the second half of the dose. Finally I went back to the store to get some Advil hoping to just get rid of the headache enough to maybe, just maybe fall asleep, since I felt like the waking dead and wished I were just fully dead by this stage. That actually worked, and I finally slept some more. Woke up at 1 or something and found the headache was gone and the Nyquil had actually worked too. But, anyway, this morning sucked a lot.

Then I played guitar for a while and stuff and that was fine. Eventually we were supposed to go see the Mariners play but K & A had to cancel. So Jason and I went down there, only to find the seats we wanted to get weren't available because everyone must have bought tons of tickets for this whole series hoping to see Rafael Palmiero's 3000th hit, which he actually got in yesterday's game. So instead of paying actually $10 more for the nosebleeders, we just wandered around the Int'l district. It was a fun time, and I didn't mind missing the game. We got some vendor dogs outside the stadium, which were actually tasty, and then stopped by Elliott Bay (bookstore).

I picked up the new issue of Filter magazine because there is a large interview with Jim Reid in it (of The Jesus and Mary Chain) - quite exciting. I also picked up the new Under the Radar for a New Order article, well plus they ran BTS and Of Montreal in it, but I actually think we get both of these magazines at work. Some magazines don't send us the comps so I forget sometimes, but I think we actually get both of these. So I suppose I might've wasted my money, but at least I don't have to wait for them in the mail I guess.

I also picked up a pair of books, I finally got The History of Love, which my friend Emily highly recommended. It happens to be autographed which was kind of cool I suppose. I also finally picked up my own copy of The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which I've read some of but not finished. It was a favorite of each of the past few girlfriends, so I guess it will be, uh, theraputic... or.. something.

We stopped at a restaurant and caught the second half of the game we attempted to go to, it was 2-2 when we left. Now I'm going to go over to Dave's in a bit and play some hockey videogames. Not that you care, but did you know the strike is over in hockey? They'll have a season again next year. Most of you probably didn't know that hockey was on strike the past year. The last time I followed much hockey, I was still in Canada. Mixed emotions when it comes back. Mixed emotions all the time... especially 16 Jul. Or maybe they're not so mixed.

Bush Lies Again On African Aid, This Time On Malaria
by Michael in New York - 7/01/2005 06:20:00 PM

Bush announced $1.2 billion in aid to Africa to fight malaria. Sounds great, just like that $15 billion he promised to spend in fighting AIDS (and then didn't).

But look closer and you'll realize Bush isn't announcing $1.2 billion in NEW funding, heaven forfend. No, despite the entire world focusing on Africa and trying to take radical steps to attack that continent's problems with a combination of targeted debt relief, increased aid and fair trade practices; despite our closest ally Britain begging Bush to step up to the plate at this historic moment; despite the obvious benefits of proving to the Muslim world Bush doesn't just want to bomb countries but genuinely wants to help, Bush says NO.

All Bush is doing is moving money around from one part of the budget to another, a shell game, really, to trick people into thinking he's being proactive and caring.

This dodge reached its obscene peak in Darfur, where Bush moved in funds to feed the starving children in that war-torn area ravaged by genocide. But how did Bush feed those kids? By moving funding away from other regions of the Sudan and focusing on Darfur because that's where the world was watching. Quite literally, he took food out of the mouths of little children to feed other children farther away and called it humanitarian relief.

Now he's doing the same thing with malaria funding. What would Jesus do? Give until it hurts or, like Bush, hurt until people give in?

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/07/bush-lies-again-on-african-aid-this.html

Jones plans to excavate the Lost Ark by the Tisha B’Av Fast this summer.

The famed archaeologist, the inspiration for the “Indiana Jones” movie series, has spent most of his life searching for the Ark of the Covenant. The ark was the resting place of the Ten Commandments, given to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai, and was hidden just before the destruction of the First Temple.

The Talmud says the Ark is hidden in a secret passage under the Temple Mount. Jones says that the tunnel actually continues 18 miles southward, and that the Ark was brought through the tunnel to its current resting place in the Judean Desert.

Throughout the many years of his quest, Jones has been in close contact and under the tutelage of numerous Rabbis and Kabbalists. Extremely knowledgeable in Torah, Talmud and Kabbalah sources dealing with Holy Temple issues, Jones has now received permission from both known and secret Kabbalists to finally uncover the lost ark.

Dr. Jones, who divides his time between Texas and Israel, has been here since March 9th ready to finally reveal the Ark. However, he has been waiting for both permission from the mysterious Kabbalist and for project funding to come through.

As recently as last month, the rabbi, who only communicates via messenger, told Jones that the time was not yet right to discover the Temple vessels.

Last Thursday, however, Dr. Jones received a communication from the rabbi reading, “The time is right.”

Armed with this and other blessings, Jones is now excited to uncover his life's pursuit. He believes the ark will be discovered by Tisha B'Av (Aug. 14), a day of repeated tragedy in Jewish history. Most notably, it is the anniversary of the destruction of both the First and Second Holy Temples.

Noahide guru Jones says that the State of Israel is passing through the same biblical straights as the generation that first entered Israel after the exodus from Egypt. “If history repeats itself, the history itself is prophecy,” Jones says.

“Israel is different from all other nations in a lot of ways, but more than anything else, Israel is the only nation whose history was written before it happened.”

Once a Christian pastor, Jones left his post to become a leader of the growing Noahide movement. Noahides are G-d fearing non-Jews who observe the seven laws of Noah, which are obligatory upon all of humanity.

The explorer and teacher published a book in 1959 predicting the precise outbreak of the Six Day War, based on his analysis of the period from the Exodus from Egypt up until the First Temple Period. He says that applying biblical analysis to modern times points to major events that will “turn the world right-side-up.”

Jones calculated the war in 1967 by analyzing the sequence of events in the First Temple Period and transposing them onto the "Third Temple Period” – the period beginning with the Jews’ foundation of an independent State in the Land of Israel in 1948.

“It fits just like tongue in groove,” he says.

Jones analyzed the following passage from the book of Bamidbar (Numbers): “Every man from 20 years old and upward, all that are able to go to war...". He said it could be read this way, "So from 20 years old and upward, all that are able to go, went to war in Israel.”

“Well, ’67 was the 20th year,” said Jones, who received acclaim for fighting as a non-listed soldier in the Six Day War. He was the only non-Jewish American to take part in the combat.

“Two years at Mt. Sinai, and then the Jewish people went to Kadesh Barnea,” he says, referring to the time immediately following the Exodus. Transposing the Jewish people’s first entry into Israel via the Jericho region and the re-entry to those areas in 1967, one can find striking similarities.

“At Kadesh Barnea, [the Jewish Nation] sent in those [twelve] spies who gave the evil report, and because they believed the evil report, they were sentenced to wander for 38 years before they could come into Gilgal” – an ancient city near Jericho.

“1967 was a repetition of Kadesh Barnea,” Jones says. “If Israel had come in and taken this place, the Arabs would have fled like they did in 1948. But no, because of the evil report of Golda Meir and Motta Gur and Moshe Dayan, who said ‘We cannot do that, world opinion will be against us.’ So Israel was sentenced to 38 years more – and June the 7th [2005], Jerusalem Day, will be the 38th year.

Jones believes that the Jewish prophecies regarding the greatly anticipated redemption are occuring in front of our eyes.

Jones' escapades and explorations were the inspiration for the blockbuster movie 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' of the 'Indiana Jones' trilogy. The man who wrote the first draft of the film, Randolph Fillmore, was one of the volunteers who worked with Jones in 1977.

“I agreed to help him write the movie,” Jones said, “as long as – number one – he wouldn’t set it here (in Israel). Some people believe the ark is in Ethiopia or Egypt, some believe its in Constantinople or Rome. I just didn’t want it to be portrayed as being here. The second thing was, 'Don’t use my name.' So he didn’t. My name is Vendyl – V-E-N-D-Y-L. So he just dropped the first and last letters and it ended up Endy Jones.”

Although at the time of the film, Jones was far from pinpointing the location of the Ark, he has come a long way since then. With the help of an ancient document found in Qumran together with the Dead Sea Scrolls, known as the “Copper Scroll”, Dr. Jones is convinced he has pinpointed the location of the Ark of the Covenant.

“In the copper scroll, the first five lines say, 'In the desolations of the Valley of Achur, in the opening under the ascent, which is a mountain facing eastward, covered by forty placed boulders – here is a tabernacle and all the golden fixtures,'” Jones says.

"This is what we have been looking for all these years, and I’ve walked over those boulders thousands of times without really stepping back and looking – realizing ‘hey, those boulders have been brought in here, they’ve been placed in here, they didn’t come off a mountain. And they’re huge.’”

Jones recounts his early explorations into the tunnels which lead from the ancient Old City of Jerusalem, near Jaffa Gate, to the foot of the Dead Sea. “My son and I went an hour and 20 minutes into the tunnel. There were so many branches and we didn’t have anything to mark the route, so I said, ‘We better get out of here and come back with a roll of string.’ Then I made the mistake of asking permission to do it. That was before I learned that Israel is a lot like heaven - it is a lot easier to get forgiveness than it is permission.”

Dr. Jones, wearing an orange anti-disengagement bracelet, dismisses the current Israeli government's plan to uproot the Jews of Gaza and northern Samaria from their homes. "There will not be any disengagement, nor will there be any Palestinian State,” he says.

Jones, who has a photographic memory, quotes: “Chapter One in Isaiah: 'How has the holy city become a harlot? Righteousness filled the street, but now murderers. The ruler is a friend of thieves and the ministers desire bribes.'”

“The prophet wasn’t talking about his day – he was talking about now. ‘Therefore, says the L-rd, I will restore them to their beginnings. I will set judges up as at first, and counselors as in the beginning.’”

The Sharon government will soon be history, Jones asserts, and the Sanhedrin (the Jewish High Court of 71 judges) will take its place and lead the Jewish people. “The Sanhedrin was established October the 13th of last year. Now all we have to do is have an election to elect counselors. The Sanhedrin is like a Senate and the elected counselors are like a House of Representatives.”

Dr. Jones says the discovery of the lost ark will “flip the whole world right-side-up.”

“I just gotta drill a bore-hole into the chamber, drop a pin-camera in and there it is. And everything is gonna change, believe me. The Jewish people are gonna come back.”

Listen to an exclusive interview with Dr. Jones on the Noahide Movement, on IsraelNationalRadio's brand new show: 'Light Unto the Nations.'

Learn more about Dr. Jones' excavations online at www.vendyljones.org.il.

source: antimusic via http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=82226

and as he said... i find it funny that it is posted by Israel National News, it must be very relieving to know that you finally are going to make sure the Nazi's don't get their hands on the ark of the covenant.

HAHA! Can you believe the REAL ark is going to be revealed BEFORE Indiana Jones IV is released in theatres?? Hahaha!

On Wednesday 16th February, Tim Morris, the brilliant drummer for Secret Shine, died of a head injury in a tragic accident. "Not only was Tim a great drummer but he was a brilliant person to be around. He had a great love of music and Secret Shine were in the process of recording some new stuff which will definitely be finished. We are also arranging a memorial gig for Tim at The Louisiana, in Bristol UK on May 25th. Scott, Dean, Jamie & Kathryn are going to be doing an acoustic set of Secret Shine/Junkie songs. This is the venue Tim first played with the band, and often said his favourite memory was counting the band in to Loveblind that night. The set list will be Loveblind, Lost all your Friends, Silver Machine, Ignite the Air, 'Tim's Song' (something never recorded), Take Me Slowly, and Decay - a mix of Secret Shine & Junkie numbers. "We didn't want a drummer for this night, and the music has a more mellow feel, so it will have a different sound. We are doing this, and there is going to be someone singing a couple of Smiths songs (One of Tim's favourites), with Scott on guitar, a band called Bucky, who he liked, and dj playing some of his favourite bands - The Smiths, Stereolab, Blue Aeroplanes, The Bluetones etc... We are going to record a cd of the acoustic set and sell it for a couple of quid on the night, and any money made, including entrance (£4) will be going to Medecins Sans Frontieres (www.msf.org), which was one of Tim's favourite charities, that he gave money to.

sad.
also, i happened to put 'loveblind' on my february compilation, before hearing about this:(
