Purpose in the Waiting Room

When God’s Timing Doesn’t Match Your Timeline

By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

You prayed. You planned. You prepared yet….you remain on the waiting list.

If you have ever felt stuck in a season where things are not moving fast enough, or not at all, you are not alone. Waiting can feel like delay, denial, or even punishment. But what if the waiting room isn’t a waste? What if it’s part of the purpose?

Why Waiting Feels So Hard

We live in a culture of speed. Microwave meals. Instant downloads. One-click everything. So when God doesn’t move at our pace, frustration builds, but God isn’t rushed. And He’s not late.

“With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” – 2 Peter 3:8

He sees the full picture, while we are just looking at one frame.

Biblical Proof That Waiting Has Purpose

David was anointed king, then sent back to tend sheep.

Joseph had a dream, then spent years in pits and prisons.

Why the wait? Because God grows the person before He releases the platform. He develops roots before He reveals fruit.

3 Things God Often Does in the Waiting

1. He Refines Your Character

Waiting reveals what’s really in you and gives God space to purify it. Pride, impatience, insecurity, and comparison often surface in the silence. Not to shame you, but to shape you.

2. He Builds Your Trust

When doors don’t open and prayers seem unanswered, you are left with one choice: trust His heart even when you can’t trace His hand.

3. He Aligns the Right Timing

Sometimes it’s not just about you being ready. It’s about circumstances, people, or opportunities falling into place. God’s orchestration is bigger than our view.

How to Wait With Purpose (and Not Just Frustration)

1. Worship While You Wait

Praise is powerful even in the pause. It lifts your eyes from the clock to the Cross. Worship keeps your heart aligned with Heaven’s pace.

2. Stay Faithful to What’s in Front of You

Don’t let future dreams make you neglect present responsibilities. David was still faithful in the field. Joseph still served in prison. Be excellent now.

3. Journal Your Journey

Document how you are feeling, what you’re learning and what God is saying. It will become a testimony later for you and others.

4. Speak Life, Not Doubt

Avoid letting delay turn into discouragement. Speak Scripture, and declare promises. God hears every word you speak in faith.

5. Guard Your Heart From Bitterness

The longer the wait, the easier it is to compare, complain, or quit. Protect your joy, guard your gratitude and keep your spiritual eyes open.

When It Feels Like Everyone Else Is Moving On

Watching others thrive while you are stuck in neutral can sting. But remember this: they are not your competition. Their timeline is not your blueprint.

God is not trying to shortchange you. He’s preparing you.

“Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay.” – Habakkuk 2:3

What’s yours cannot miss you. What God has prepared is worth the wait.

This Season Is Sacred, Too

You may not see fruit yet, but roots are growing. And roots matter. They are what anchor you for the weight of what is coming. If God gave you what you’re asking for too early, it could crush you, but in the waiting? He’s building your capacity.

So don’t waste the wait. Serve. Grow. Worship. Learn. Heal. Prepare. And trust, really trust, that God is never late. His timing isn’t just perfect… it’s intentional!

Important to remember:

  • There’s Purpose in This Pause
  • This isn’t a detour. It’s development.
  • This isn’t rejection. It’s redirection.
  • This isn’t punishment. It’s preparation.
  • You’re not forgotten. You’re being formed.

So breathe. Be still. And believe this truth: your waiting room will one day become your testimony platform.

An Exciting Look at The Bible Part 3

You Will Never See The Bible The Same Again

By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

If you’ve been with me since Monday, you already know: The Bible isn’t boring. It’s bursting with thrillers, romance, rebellion, danger, redemption, and the unexpected at every turn.

But we’re not done yet. Today, we’re going out with a bang.Because what if I told you the Bible has…talking animals, heavenly warriors, sudden disappearances, fire from the sky and armies that defeat themselves.

Yeah. Let’s go.

An Angel with a Flaming Sword: Balaam’s Wake-Up Call

Balaam was a prophet for hire called in to curse Israel for some money. But God wasn’t having it. So He sends an angel to block Balaam’s path. Balaam can’t see him, but his donkey can.The donkey stops, refuses to go forward, even crushes Balaam’s foot. So Balaam beats it.Then the donkey turns and says, “Why are you hitting me?” (Yes, really. Numbers 22:21–33)

Then God opens Balaam’s eyes, and he sees the angel, sword drawn.

Lesson? Sometimes God uses the unexpected to save us – even a talking donkey.

Heavenly Armies on Invisible Hills: Elisha and the Fearless Faith

Elisha’s servant wakes up and sees enemy armies surrounding them and as you can imagine, the reaction is panic and despair.

But Elisha? Calm. He prays, “Lord, open his eyes.”Suddenly, the servant sees the hills filled with horses and chariots of fire. (2 Kings 6:15–17)

Heaven’s army was already there. We don’t always see the help, but God’s already deployed it.

When the Enemy Turned on Itself: Jehoshaphat’s Unusual Battle

A massive army comes against King Jehoshaphat. He doesn’t send warriors first—he sends worshipers. As they sing and praise, God causes the enemy armies to turn on each other. By the time Israel arrives, the battlefield is full of defeated foes, and they never even raised a sword. (2 Chronicles 20)

Worship won the war.

Chariots of Fire and Sudden Departures: Elijah’s Grand Exit

Elijah didn’t die. Yes? You read right.Instead, while walking with Elisha, a chariot of fire pulled by fiery horses comes down, and Elijah is swept up in a whirlwind and taken to Heaven. Just like that. No funeral. No goodbyes. (2 Kings 2:11–12)

God’s way of saying, “This one’s coming home with style.”

A Fire-Soaked Altar in a Drought: Elijah vs. the Prophets of Baal

On Mount Carmel, Elijah challenges prophets of Baal. They shout, dance, and cut themselves trying to get their god to send fire.

Nothing.

Elijah then soaks his altar in water three times, so much that it fills the trench. Then he prays once. Fire falls from heaven and consumes the offering, stones, water, and everything in sight. (1 Kings 18:16–39)

God doesn’t just answer. He dominates.

These Aren’t Just Stories. They’re Invitations

Let’s pause here.

None of this is fiction. These aren’t fairy tales or legends passed down to sound cool.

These are true events, recorded and preserved, because God wanted you to know that He’s not distant. He’s involved.

He doesn’t play by human rules.

He works through worship, through whispers, through fire and wind and hidden armies. And yes, He can and still continues to do the unthinkable today.

What if We’ve Been Reading the Bible All Wrong?

We approach Scripture like it’s a rulebook or a boring duty. But what if it’s God’s action-packed love letter to the world? What if He put all this in there to capture your heart, stir your faith, and invite you into something bigger?

This isn’t just entertainment. It’s evidence of who God is, of what He can do and how He moves through ordinary people and impossible odds.

So Where Do You Go From Here?

You’ve now seen spies, miracles, rebellion, angels, fire, and talking animals. Now it’s time to read it for yourself.

Start small:

  1. Pick one story that stuck with you from this week.
  2. Read the chapter.
  3. Ask: What does this show me about God? What does this awaken in me?

Go Deeper: Make the Bible part of your daily rhythm, not out of duty, but expectation. Because every time you open it, God’s ready to meet you there.

This Isn’t the End. I called this the last post in the series… but honestly, this could be the first page of a new chapter in your walk with God. A fresh hunger.A renewed awe.A wild, beautiful journey through Scripture that brings the stories to life and transforms yours along the way.

So don’t close the book. Open it again and again. There’s more treasure to find. More whispers to hear. More fire to fall.

And I’m cheering you on every step of the way.Let me know if you’d like a free printable reading guide or a simple reading plan to kick off this adventure. We can build it together!

And as always, if this stirred something in you, drop a comment or share it with a friend. Let’s ignite a new hunger for the Word together.

    Wait..That’s in the Bible too?

Spies, Assassins, and Secrets Buried in Scripture

    By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

So, yesterday I told you that the Bible has everything: action, love, miracles and epic drama.

However, I barely scratched the surface because get this: There are spies. Assassins. Rebellions. Earthquakes. Hidden treasure. Dreams that change destinies.Yeah, you read that right. You see, God didn’t just fill the Bible with laws and psalms. He loaded it with jaw-dropping moments and high-stakes stories that could rival any blockbuster.

Today, I’m showing you just a few of the wild scenes hiding in the pages you may have skipped. And by the end? You might just be grabbing your Bible like it’s the next thriller you can’t put down.

Spies on a Secret Mission: Rahab and the Walls of Jericho

Two Israelite spies sneak into Jericho to scout the city. They are almost caught, but a woman named Rahab hides them on her roof, risking her life to protect them. She was not a noblewoman. She was actually a prostitute but because of her act of bravery, her entire family was saved when the walls come crashing down. (Joshua 2)

Assassins in the Name of Justice: Ehud the Left-Handed Warrior

The Israelites are under brutal oppression, and God raises up an unlikely deliverer: Ehud—a left-handed man.He sneaks a dagger past the palace guards, walks into the evil king’s private chamber, and plunges the blade into his belly so deep it disappears. Then he locks the door behind him and escapes. (Judges 3:12–30)

Yes, this actually happened. And it’s in your Bible.

Rebellion in the Ranks: Korah vs. Moses

Not everyone was a fan of Moses. One day, Korah and 250 leaders stage a rebellion, claiming Moses was taking too much power.

Moses falls on his face before God and pleads.God answers. How?

The earth opens up beneath Korah and his followers and swallows them whole. (Numbers 16)

It’s dramatic. It’s terrifying. It’s a warning: Be careful when you rise against someone God has appointed.

An Earthquake that Broke Chains: Paul and Silas in Prison

Wrongfully imprisoned for doing good, Paul and Silas don’t grumble.Instead, they sing. Loudly. In the dark. In chains. What happens next? Well the power of God on display. An earthquake shakes the prison to its core, flinging open every door and unfastening every chain.

But they don’t run. They stay. The jailer who witnessed their peace and integrity, fell to his knees and gave his life to Christ. (Acts 16:25–34)

Freedom wasn’t just physical. It was spiritual.

A Hidden Treasure That Wasn’t So Hidden: Achan’s Greed Exposed

After the fall of Jericho, God said, “Don’t touch the loot.” But Achan saw some gold, silver, and a beautiful robe, and buried them under his tent.

Problem? His secret sin brought defeat to Israel in the next battle. When the truth came out, God exposed him.Lesson? (Joshua 7)

A Dream That Saved a Kingdom: Joseph’s Divine Downloads

Young Joseph had dreams that seemed outrageous. His family bowing to him? Really? They mock him, then sell him.

But God gives him more dreams. This time, interpreting the dreams of others, including Pharaoh. Joseph interprets a dream about seven fat cows and seven skinny ones, predicting a coming famine.

He was instantly transferred from prison to second-in-command, and his wisdom saves Egypt and his own family from starvation. (Genesis 41)

God didn’t just speak in dreams. He used them to change the course of nations.

More Than Stories—These Are Divine Clues

You might be thinking, “I had no idea this stuff was in the Bible.”Most people don’t. And honestly? That’s part of the problem. We’ve treated the Bible like an old history book or a quiet devotional manual, when it’s really a divine adventure journal, filled with secrets, strategies, warnings, and wonders. Each of these stories isn’t just cool history. They’re spiritual breadcrumbs – clues pointing us to a deeper truth:

God sees what’s hidden. He honors courage over credentials. He uses the unlikely to do the unforgettable. He’s not afraid to shake the earth to reach one soul.

-So… Why Haven’t You Opened It Yet?You’ve binge-watched shows. You’ve scrolled for hours. But the greatest drama ever written is sitting on your shelf or your phone, and you’ve barely cracked it open. Not anymore.Pick a story from today’s post. Go read it. Feel the tension. Picture the scene. Ask God to show you something new in it because the more you dig into Scripture, the more you’ll see that it’s alive. And it’s calling you deeper.

Come Back Tomorrow…Because I’m not done yet. Tomorrow, I’m bringing even more reasons why the Bible is the wildest, richest, most life-giving book ever written. We’ll look at angels in disguise, talking animals, unlikely heroes, and battles where the enemy defeats itself. It’s about to get even crazier and even more beautiful.See you then.

    The Greatest Story Ever Told

Adventures, Wars, and Love Stories Hidden in the Bible

    By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

What if I told you that the Bible is more thrilling than the last movie you watched?

No, seriously. We’re talking wild plot twists, battlefield showdowns, steamy love stories, political drama, unsolved mysteries, and heroics that put most Hollywood scripts to shame.

And the best part? It’s all real. Every word. Every gasp-worthy scene.

For too long, we’ve let the Bible be boxed in as “just a religious book”—a collection of ancient rules or quiet devotionals. But what if I told you it was actually a collection of the most gripping, gut-wrenching, mind-blowing human and divine stories ever written?

Strap in. You’re about to see the Bible in a whole new light.

A Shepherd boy vs. a Giant: David and Goliath

Imagine a teenage shepherd stepping onto a battlefield where trained warriors stand frozen in fear. He’s got no armor, no sword—just a sling and some stones.

The enemy? A nine-foot-tall, trash-talking war machine named Goliath.

Everyone expects David to die. Instead, one stone flies, the giant falls, and history is made.

It’s not just a story—it’s a reminder that courage fueled by faith can take down anything towering over you.

Supernatural Speed: Elijah Outruns a Chariot

Ever seen a prophet turn into a sprinter? Elijah, after calling down fire from heaven, pulls up his robe and outruns a royal chariot in a God-fueled burst of strength. (1 Kings 18:46)

Yes, you read that right. Move over, Usain Bolt—Elijah had heaven’s wind behind him.

    An Epic Escape: The Exodus

A nation enslaved. A hardened king who won’t let go. A leader who stutters but carries God’s fire.

Cue ten plagues, a miraculous midnight escape, and then, just as freedom seems near, the Red Sea blocks the path.

But then Moses lifts his staff, the sea splits open, and millions walk through on dry land.

It’s more than drama. It’s deliverance on a scale only God can pull off.

From Pit to Palace: The Story of Joseph

Betrayed by his own brothers, Joseph is sold as a slave and falsely accused, landing in prison.

But God was writing a plot twist no one saw coming. In one day, Joseph goes from forgotten prisoner to Pharaoh’s right-hand man, saving nations from famine.

Talk about a divine comeback story.

300 Men vs. Thousands: Gideon’s Impossible Victory

God tells Gideon to shrink his army down to just 300 men to face an enemy so vast their camels were “as numerous as the sand.” (Judges 7)

No swords. Just trumpets, jars, and torches.

They blow the trumpets, break the jars, and the enemy turns on itself in confusion. Victory.

God doesn’t need numbers. He needs obedience.

Queen with a Cause: Esther Risks It All

Esther was just a young woman caught in royal politics—until she discovered a plot to wipe out her people.

Instead of hiding, she walked uninvited into the king’s presence (a death sentence in her time) and boldly said, “If I perish, I perish.”

She didn’t perish. She saved a nation.

It’s bravery. It’s wisdom. It’s the rise of a queen with divine purpose.

Romance from Ruin: Ruth and Boaz

A widowed foreigner chooses loyalty over convenience and follows her mother-in-law to an unfamiliar land.

There, working in the fields, she catches the eye of Boaz—a man of kindness, honor, and integrity.

Their love story unfolds slowly, beautifully, against the backdrop of brokenness and loss.

It’s not fairy-tale fluff. It’s God writing redemption into real-life pain.

Strength Meets Seduction: Samson and Delilah

He was the strongest man to ever live…well that is until he fell for the wrong woman.

Delilah seduced Samson, teased secrets from his heart, and handed him over to his enemies.

Blinded and chained, it seemed like the end… until Samson, in one final prayer, brought down the enemy temple sacrificing himself and defeating the Philistines in death.

Even when we fall, God can redeem the ending.

A Love That Doesn’t Give Up: Hosea and Gomer

God tells Hosea to marry a woman who will be unfaithful, just like Israel was unfaithful to Him.

Gomer leaves Hosea, chasing other lovers. He could have let her go. But God says, “Go get her. Bring her back. Love her again.”

He buys her back, tenderly, publicly.

It’s the ultimate picture of grace. Of love that goes after the broken, again and again.

The Ultimate Betrayal: Jesus and Judas

He walked with Him, ate with Him and watched His miracles firsthand.

Then, Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss for 30 pieces of silver.

It was heartbreaking. But Jesus saw it coming and still loved him anyway.

This story doesn’t end in defeat. It ends at the cross. And then, the resurrection.

The twist? What looked like loss became the greatest victory of all.

    Wait—That’s All in the Bible?!

Yes. And that’s just a glimpse.

The Bible is not just a spiritual manual. It’s a living library of raw, real, riveting stories.

There are spies. Assassins. Rebellions. Earthquakes. Hidden treasure. Dreams that change destinies.
    And underneath it all?

A relentless God pursuing people with unstoppable love.

    Ready to Read It Differently?

If the Bible has ever felt boring, maybe it’s because you were reading it like a textbook instead of a treasure hunt.

Today, I dare you – open it again. Pick one of these stories. Start there.

    Let God surprise you.
    Let Scripture draw you in.
Let your heart be set on fire.

Living Today With Forever In Mind

What Happens If You Die Today?

We plan for everything. Months in advance, we save for vacations; some of us book hotels a year ahead just to make it to major events like the World Creole Music Festival in Dominica or Saint Lucia Jazz Festival. We count down to the Champions League final, or line up early for the biggest concerts and prepare extensively for weddings, vacation, birthday celebrations and the list goes on. You are probably even mentioning some under your breath now.

We adjust plans to ensure everything works out perfectly….and that’s good. Cudos to all of you who plan ahead. It is indeed an excellent and rewarding practice.

The question is though, have you planned for what happens when your life ends? OK, that sounded a bit too refined let me put it that way:

“If you died today, where would you spend eternity?”

Have you ever given that some thought?

It’s a question many avoid because it may feel uncomfortable. But let’s be honest…..one day, death will be real for all of us…some sooner rather than later.

Have you ever laid on a hospital bed and heard the wails of a family two beds away? Their loved one just passed away. The body is wrapped. The team from the funeral home is on the way.

I have witnessed the exchange of glances from patients on the ward, the hushed conversations of the medical staff and an uneasy silence fills the air. Even the groanings in nearby rooms go on a temporary pause, as if everyone is quietly acknowledging the weight of what just happened.

Suddenly, everything feels different. The questions come fast:

When my time comes (and it will), where will I be?” or “Will I be at peace or filled with regret WHEN my time comes?”

The reality is, you can’t ask death to wait a minute. You can’t say, “Hold on, I need more time, or check back this afternoon.” You can’t bribe Death to watch the other way for a few months and you most certainly can’t command it to go away. You could try but its not going to work.

When that bell rings….off you go!!!

When the moment comes, death doesn’t ask permission. You are there this minute, and in a blink of an eye you are gone. You are driving your car, you suddenly feel a pain in your chest, and your heart fails and just like that, you are gone. You could be taking a walk and a motorist loses control and his vehicle knocks you to the pavement and it’s goodbye world. Do you know that you could be like the millions who are walking this earth unaware that they are ill. You are feeling on top of your game and then, one day, your mom, your husband, your children, your wife or friend tries to wake you and your body is still and cold.

The fact is death is inevitable.

The Bible in Hebrews 9:27 tells us plainly:“It is appointed unto man once to die, and after this, the judgment.”

We don’t get a second shot at it. The reality is though, it’s not just about dying – it’s about eternity. Death is only the doorway; what truly matters is where that door leads. Eternity is not a vague idea or distant concept; it is a certain reality for every soul. The question isn’t if we will face it, but where we will spend it. Heaven or Hell—these are not just symbolic outcomes, but eternal destinations. And the choice is made now, not later.

I ask again: Have you considered where you will be when you die?

    It’s Time to Get Real

If you died today, which of the two destinations will your soul reside?

    Don’t wait until tragedy strikes.

Eternity is real. And you can choose today where you will spend it.

HEAVEN in the presence of God for ETERNITY or HELL, where your soul will be tormented for ETERNITY in a lake of fire in the presence of the devil and his demons.

Hmm….seems like a very easy choice. So how can one plan to live forever with God after their earthly journey is over?

You would not believe how simple that is. No visas, no cash or credit card needed, no special task required.

Jesus Christ came so we could have eternal life, real life, beyond this world.

Your Ticket to Eternal Life in Heaven

Romans 10:9 puts it simply:“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

I know what you are thinking. “Is Living with God forever and ever that simple?

Can you image this? He left the comfort of Heaven to die for the sins of mankind and clearly, not because we earned it, and definitely not because we are perfect, but because He loved us enough to pay the price. So now we have the opportunity, thanks to His sacrifice, to live with Him forever.

So this is why it is so simple. Simply Believe. The choice of which of the two places you take up residence after death is entirely up to you.

Absolutely no one can make that choice for you. So I ask You again: Have you made plans for life beyond this earth?

If your decision is to spend eternity in Hell, DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

If your decision however is to spend eternity with God, Simply Believe.

If you took the decision to Believe, Heaven is rejoicing, and so am I.

Stay ready. Stay grounded. And live every day with purpose.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    When Obedience Feels Unfair

Trusting God Even When It Costs You

    By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

We love the idea of obedience until it starts costing us something.

Obedience that’s easy, convenient, or praised by others? That’s not too hard. But what about the kind of obedience that feels like loss? The kind that closes doors, costs relationships, or brings no immediate reward? That’s where real faith shows up.

When Saying “Yes” Feels Like a Sacrifice

Have you ever followed God and still ended up in a storm? You’re not alone.

    • Noah obeyed and built the ark—while being ridiculed for years.
    • Joseph walked in integrity—and still landed in prison.
    • Mary said yes to being the mother of Jesus knowing she’d be misunderstood, judged, and even endangered.

Obedience doesn’t always lead to comfort. Sometimes it leads straight through discomfort to divine purpose. I bet your are wondering,” but Isn’t God Supposed to Reward Obedience?”

Yes, He does but not always immediately, and not always how we expect. Obedience is a seed. You don’t plant it today and reap the full harvest tomorrow. Sometimes you obey in one season and see the fruit years later.

That job you turned down because of your convictions? That relationship you walked away from because God said no? That tithe you gave when your budget was tight? God sees it. God honors it. Even when no one else does.

3 Reasons Obedience Still Matters (Even When It Feels Unfair)

    1. Obedience Shapes You

Every act of obedience is forming Christ in you. It’s deepening your trust, refining your character, and aligning your heart with heaven.

    2. Obedience Sets You Up for Legacy

Sometimes what you sacrifice today opens doors for generations tomorrow. Abraham’s obedience didn’t just bless him. It blessed nations.

    3. Obedience Unlocks the Supernatural

Jesus told servants to fill water jars. Then He turned that water into wine (John 2). Their obedience was the setup for His miracle. You never know what your “yes” is activating behind the scenes.

What to Do When Obedience Feels Heavy

    1. Be Honest With God

You don’t have to pretend obedience is easy. Jesus Himself wrestled in Gethsemane. Talk to God about your struggle. He can handle it.

    2. Stay Anchored in His Word

When your emotions are loud, let His truth be louder. Remind yourself of His promises especially when the path doesn’t make sense.

    3. Focus on the “Who,” Not Just the “What”

Obedience is ultimately about trust. You are not just following a command, you’re following a Person. A faithful, loving, all-knowing God.

    4. Journal the Journey

Write down what God asked you to do and how you responded. Later, you’ll be amazed at how His hand was on every step even the ones that hurt.

    Don’t Quit in the Middle

Maybe you are in the “middle place” right now. The space between your obedience and the breakthrough. That place can feel silent, stretching, lonely.

But God is never absent. The middle is where roots grow deep, where faith gets real and where intimacy with God intensifies.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” – Galatians 6:9

You don’t know how close you are to harvest. Don’t give up, don’t go back.

    Your obedience is never wasted.

He Sees. He Knows. He Will Reward.

If no one else claps for your faithfulness, heaven still sees it. If your obedience hasn’t paid off yet in the natural, it’s still producing something supernatural.

So keep saying yes. Keep doing the hard thing. Keep walking the narrow path.

God doesn’t forget those who obey in secret. He rewards those who trust in silence.

As we come to the end of this week’s posts, I want to say a huge “thank you” to all of you who continue to check in daily to Steps of Purpose for encouragement and inspiration. Your encouraging calls and comments have served as fuel to keep writing! Because of this overwhelming support, I have written a bonus post for tomorrow….( a rare but equally powerful weekend treat). I will, in that article, pick your brain a bit about your plans for a major event that you will inevitably attend…that is…. DEATH! Join me tomorrow and let’s talk about Preparing for your Final Breath!

Faith That Walks, Not Just Talks

Living Boldly When It’s Easier to Hide

    By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

There’s a kind of faith that posts pretty quotes and says the right things in church. And then there is the kind that shows up on hard days, keeps moving when the way is unclear, and trusts God when it would be easier to quit. That’s the kind of faith that walks—not just talks.

The World Is Watching Your Walk

You might not think of yourself as a preacher, but your life is a message. How you respond to pressure, uncertainty, temptation, or disappointment preaches louder than any sermon.

When your faith is more than words, when it becomes motion, it draws people in. It says, “God must be real, because look how they are walking through this.”

That’s what happened with Paul and Silas in prison. They didn’t just talk faith. They sang even while in their chains (Acts 16). They praised in the middle of pain. And it wasn’t just for show. People were watching, and hearts were impacted.

Why It’s Easier to Talk Than Walk

Let’s be real. Walking in faith can be hard.

    • It’s uncertain. Faith doesn’t come with a map, just a Guide.
    • It’s uncomfortable. Trusting God means surrendering control.
    • It’s risky. Obedience might mean stepping into things you’re not qualified for yet.

Talking about faith is safe. But walking in it? That’s where transformation happens.

3 Signs Your Faith Is Walking

If you’re wondering whether your faith has legs, here are a few signs:

    1. You Obey Before the Outcome Is Clear

Abraham left his homeland not knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8). Faith does not wait for clarity it moves with conviction.

    2. You Choose Peace Over Panic

When storms come, faith doesn’t always mean shouting. Sometimes it looks like sleeping on the boat—because you know Who’s in it with you (Mark 4:38–39).

    3. You Keep Showing Up

Even when prayers aren’t answered yet. Even when progress is slow. Walking faith means persistence, not perfection.

How to Strengthen a Walking Faith

    1. Get in the Word Daily

God’s Word fuels your steps. It reminds you what’s true when emotions lie.

    2. Surround Yourself With Movers

Hang around people who aren’t just talking big faith—but living it. Their courage will stir yours.

    3. Celebrate Small Steps

Progress isn’t always dramatic. Every act of obedience is a victory. Track them. Thank God for them.

    4. Let Go of the Need to Impress

Walking faith isn’t flashy. It’s not for applause, it’s for alignment. God’s opinion matters most.

Faith Is a Journey, Not a Moment

You don’t have to be loud to have strong faith. You don’t need a platform, a pulpit, or a perfect record. You just need to keep walking.

When Peter stepped out of the boat in Matthew 14, he didn’t walk perfectly. In fact, he sank. But he stepped. And Jesus still caught him.

So even if your walk is wobbly right now, don’t stop. Faith doesn’t always look like confidence. Sometimes it looks like trembling obedience.

But one step after another, day after day, that’s how mountains move.

Walk It Out, Even When It’s Hard

If you’re facing something today that feels too big, too uncertain, or too heavy, this is your reminder: God honors movement. He meets you in motion. He responds to faith that walks.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”2 Corinthians 5:7

So keep going. Keep believing. Keep walking because even if it’s not perfect, it’s real. And that kind of faith makes heaven smile.

Church Attendance vs. Relationship with God

More Than a Seat in the Sanctuary

    By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

You can warm a pew every Sunday and still have a cold heart toward God.

    Let that sink in.

We live in a time when attending church can feel like the ultimate sign of spiritual success. But have you ever walked out of a service, having sung the songs, nodded through the sermon, and still felt…empty? If you have ever felt that strange disconnect then this post is for you.

The Sunday Routine: A Spiritual Illusion?

Church attendance is good. Let’s start there. Scripture encourages it:

Do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together…” – Hebrews 10:25

Community is vital. Worshiping together is powerful. Learning from solid biblical teaching is necessary. But somewhere along the way, many Christians confuse being present in a building with being present before God.

Church can become routine. A checkbox. A performance. And if we are not careful, we can substitute proximity to church culture for intimacy with Christ Himself.

It’s not a modern problem, either. Jesus addressed it many years ago.

These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” – Matthew 15:8

The Pharisee Problem: Devotion Without Depth

The Pharisees were the religious elite. If spiritual points were awarded for attendance and rule-keeping, they would have won every prize. Yet Jesus reserved His strongest rebukes for them.

    Why?

Because they had all the external trappings of religion without the internal reality of relationship.

They tithed, prayed, fasted, and taught others. But their hearts were untouched, unchanged. They were near to the temple but far from the God of the temple.

And here’s the sobering truth: that danger still exists today.

You can know the church schedule, serve on a team, and memorize Scripture, and still not know the heart of the Father.

Signs You May Be Going Through the Motions

Let’s be honest. Have you ever felt:

    • Like you are performing in church but crumbling in private?
    • Emotionally disconnected from worship or prayer?
    • More concerned about appearance than authenticity?

Those are warning lights on your spiritual dashboard.

God doesn’t want your attendance. He wants your attention. He is not asking for performance. He is longing for presence. And just in case you are wondering … He’s not impressed by your resume – He is more concerned about your relationship with Him.

So What Does a Real Relationship with God Look Like?

It’s not flashy. It’s not filtered. It’s often quiet, raw, and deeply personal.

    A relationship with God means:

    • Talking to Him daily, not just in crisis.
    • Listening to Him through His Word, not just your emotions.
    • Walking with Him in obedience, even when no one is watching.
    • Loving Him with your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Think about David. He was a king, a warrior, a worshiper and yes, a flawed man. But he was known as a man after God’s own heart. Why? Because he pursued God honestly and wholeheartedly, not just formally.

Or Mary of Bethany, who sat at Jesus’ feet while others were busy doing “church work.” She chose intimacy over activity. Relationship over routine.

    Don’t Let Church Replace Christ

Here’s the truth: church attendance, being together as one members of the family of Christ should fuel your relationship with God, not replace it.

It’s meant to point you to Jesus, not stand in His place. When church becomes a crutch rather than a catalyst, it can actually hinder your growth.

God is not confined to a building. He wants to meet you on Monday morning just as much as He does on Sunday morning. In the silence of your room. In the rush of your commute. In the middle of your struggle.

    He wants YOU.

    • Not your perfect attendance record.
    • Not your seat in the front row.
    • Not your ability to blend in and say all the right things.
    • He wants your heart.

    A Heartfelt Challenge

So let me ask you this:

    • If the church building shut down for a year, would your faith survive?
    • If no one saw your spiritual life, would you still seek God?
    • Is your Christianity built around church… or Christ?

This isn’t about guilt – it’s about grace. God is calling us deeper, beyond the motions, beyond the checklist, into a relationship that transforms us from the inside out.

Final Word: Choose Connection Over Custom

Don’t settle for a sanitized version of faith. God never invited you into religion. He invited you into relationship. That means vulnerability. That means time. That means letting Him into the parts of your life you would rather keep hidden.

    • Let church be the launchpad, not the destination.
    • Let Sunday be the spark, not the whole fire.
    • Let your walk with God go beyond the walls, and into every moment.

    Call to Action:

This week, take a moment each day – just you and God. No distractions. No performance. Just honest conversation.

Ask Him: Lord, am I drawing near to You … or just to church?

Then listen. He still speaks. And He still draws near to those who seek Him with their whole heart.

Don’t just go to church. Walk with Him. Know Him. Love Him.

    Your Battle Isn’t Yours

Trust That God Is in Control

    By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

There comes a point in every believer’s life when the fight feels too heavy. You’ve prayed, fasted and pushed. Still, the situation hasn’t changed. The mountain hasn’t moved, the pressure hasn’t lifted, and the breakthrough you have longed for hasn’t arrived.

    Suddenly, God whispers something unexpected…

“This battle is not yours, but God’s.” – 2 Chronicles 20:15

    Wait, what?

You mean I don’t have to fix it, figure it all out or carry the weight? That’s exactly what He means.

When You’re Fighting Battles You Were Never Meant to Carry

We often step into roles we were never meant to fill.

    • Trying to be the savior.
    • Trying to control outcomes.
    • Trying to do God’s job while ignoring the burden it places on our souls.

And it wears us down physically, emotionally, spiritually.

But what if God never asked you to fight this one? What if your job isn’t to win, but to worship? What if your job is not to strive but to stand?

    The Story Behind the Scripture

In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat faced a massive army. Outnumbered. Outmatched. Out of options.

Instead of panicking, he prayed. Instead of preparing a battle strategy, he gathered the people to fast and seek the Lord. You wont believe what happened next!

The word of the Lord came:

“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.”

What did they do next? They worshipped and praised God. And yes you guessed right: God fought for them. He sent confusion into the enemy’s camp and won the battle without the Israelites lifting a single sword.

Signs You’re Trying to Fight Alone

    • You’re exhausted, but not from obedience—from over-functioning.
    • You’re praying and panicking at the same time.
    • You feel responsible for outcomes that only God can orchestrate.
    • You’re bitter that it’s not moving faster or looking easier.

    Sound familiar?

Friend, God doesn’t need your strength. He wants your surrender.

How to Let God Fight for You

    1. Get Clear on What’s Yours to Do

God may call you to pray, speak, forgive, or obey in faith, but not to control the outcome. Let Him handle the results.

    2. Hand It Over Daily

This isn’t a one-time release. Surrender is a daily rhythm. Every time the anxiety creeps back in, hand it back.“God, this is Yours. Not mine. I trust You.”

    3. Declare His Promises

Speak them out loud. Over your situation. Your family. Your mind. Victory starts in your confession.

    4. Worship While You Wait

Worship is more than just sound. It’s the expression of your internal reverence for the Almighty God.

It says, “I know Who’s in control, even when I don’t understand the process.”

What If It Doesn’t Change Right Away?

Here’s the truth most won’t say out loud: sometimes the battle is long. Victory doesn’t always come overnight. But here’s what is guaranteed:

    • God will never leave you in it alone.
    • Whether the battle ends today or unfolds over time—He is still God.
    • He is Still present.
    • He is Still working.
    • He is Still fighting.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14

    Stillness isn’t passive.

    • It’s active trust.
    • It’s choosing peace in the face of pressure.
    • It’s holding your ground when fear tries to shake you.
    • It’s knowing that Heaven is backing you up even when it feels like nothing’s happening.

Take Your Hands Off and Lift Them Up

You were never meant to carry the weight of something only God can fix. Let Him take over, let Him defend you and let Him open the doors, break the chains, silence the lies, and shut the mouths of lions.

Why? Because your battle isn’t really yours. It’s His. And He’s never lost one yet and He Never Will!

    Stop Overthinking!

Here is Who God Says You Are

    By Mervin Fitzgerald Matthew

Ever find yourself spiraling in your thoughts? Second-guessing your worth, your place, your calling?

    You begin to wonder:

    “Am I doing enough?”

    “Am I truly called?”

“Who even am I in the grand scheme of things?”

Let’s be honest. Sometimes our own minds are the battlefield. We overthink and over-analyze. The truth is Identity Doesn’t Start with You. It Starts with God. He never asked you to figure things out alone. He didn’t toss you into the world and say:

Good luck out there. Try not to mess it up.”

From the beginning, He spoke identity over you. Before the overthinking, the trauma, the fear, the lies, He named you. By the way, in case you forgot…Here is who God says you are:

    1. You Are Chosen

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you.” – John 15:16

Let that sink in. Before you had your “act together,” Before you prayed the right prayers, Before you said yes, He chose You. You’re not an afterthought neither are you a random accident. You are wanted by God.

    2. You Are Loved

“I have loved you with an everlasting love.” – Jeremiah 31:3

Just in case you are wondering…no you are not merely tolerated or barely forgiven. There is no expiration date to God’s Love for you. God’s love is not based on your behavior. It is rooted in His nature. So even when you mess up? I kid you not! His love never changes.

    3. You Are Enough (Because He Is)

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

You don’t have to “measure up” to earn your identity. God uses the weak, the insecure, the overlooked on purpose. So when the enemy whispers, “You’re not enough”? Remind him or her: “God is.”

    4. You Are Called

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” – Ephesians 2:10

You have a purpose designed by Heaven. You’re not just surviving. you are called to impact. You were not saved to sit still. You were set apart to shine.

    5. You Are Forgiven

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” – Psalm 103:12

That thing you can’t stop replaying? That failure that haunts you? God doesn’t hold it against you.

He removed it, buried it and redeemed it. So STOP digging it back up.

    Why Overthinking Keeps Us Stuck

    Overthinking is fear in disguise.

It says, “What if I mess this up?”

“Am I really who God says I am?”

“Shouldn’t I be doing more by now?”

Confused? Hmm.. well let’s get one thing straight:

“God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” – 1 Corinthians 14:33

If it’s producing panic instead of peace, it’s not from Him.

How to Silence the Noise and Stand in Truth

    1. Write It Down: What Has God Already Said?

Create a list of scriptures declaring your identity. Keep it close.

Speak them. Pray them. Believe them.

    2. Replace Thoughts, Don’t Just Rebuke Them

When a negative thought enters, don’t just rebuke it, replace it with truth.

    Example:

“I’m not good enough.” → “I’m God’s workmanship, created with purpose.” (Eph 2:10)

    4. Ask God to Renew Your Mind Daily

This is a process, not a one-time moment. Ask Him to help you think from a Heavenly perspective, not a fearful one.

Let God Have the Final Say

Don’t let your mind talk you out of what God has spoken over you.

Don’t let insecurity silence what God already shouted.

    • You are His.
    • You are seen.
    • You are called.
    • You are enough.

So the next time your thoughts start spinning?

    Stop…Breathe….Remind yourself:

“I don’t have to overthink what God has already defined.”

Let His voice be louder than your doubts.
