Dark Spaces – Devlog 010

What it would be like to visit a gallery in the absence of art.

The Gallery as captured on Apple Vision Pro

This scene was made in Reality Composer Pro out of simple cubes and spotlights. I created a floor and three large walls to display the art (or lack of it). Each piece is a cube scaled to the size I thought was appropriate. I used spotlights to bring attention to each one. I used an unlit black material, so the light falls on the walls and floor, but the art.

For the audio, I created a new project in Logic Pro and found a soundscape that I liked. I used the “Stratosphere” to create a handful of long notes. Then I learned a little bit about the Session Player feature. I used this to generate some piano and base tracks to lay over the main track. I load this audio file when we enter the scene and play it in a loop. It is only 30 seconds long and I know it could be improved a lot.

I have some ideas to build on this idea. I could create a handful of song with slightly different themes and emotions, the assign them to each piece. I may also turn off all the lights and only activate the ones the visitor is facing. I also like the idea of showing many empty calls in the rest of the scene. Something to emphasize the total lack of anything left worth looking at.
