My Traveling Journey (#1) - 2017 Charleston, South Carolina
Ft Sumter, Patriots Point USS Yorktown, Drum Island Ferry
While going through some old flash drives, I came across a large cache of unprocessed photographs I had taken on a long road trip vacation I took in 2017.
These were taken before my medical disaster in 2022, which is a whole other story.
The 2017 vacation was a long road trip that took me through half of the United States, covering over 6,000 miles of open road in my loyal 2011 Nissan Frontier pickup truck and taking over a month to complete.
Those were some fun times. I visited over a dozen states from North Carolina down to Florida, over to Oklahoma, up to Nebraska, then over to New York, and back down to Virginia:
I visited historic Charleston, South Carolina.
Walked the white sand beaches of Destin, Florida.
I hiked mountains in Oklahoma, and I didn’t even know Oklahoma had mountains until I visited my brother and his family, which was a pleasant surprise.
Saw mile upon mile of beautiful Iowa corn and wheat fields in full bloom.
Saw three of the Great Lakes: Michigan, Erie, and Superior.
While in New York, I witnessed the beauty of Niagara Falls, explored Ft Niagara, walked and drove along the Erie Canal, stayed in Lake George, visited Ft William Henry of "Last of the Mohican" fame, and walked Ft Ticonderoga.
Took the US state of Vermont off my bucket list.
This road trip took over a month, and I drove over 6000 miles over mostly rural roads.
One of the best road trip vacations I have ever taken.
I took several hundred photographs during my trip (sadly, I lost a few hundred more due to a mistake)
What can I say, I love to travel, especially over the road, because I took another long road trip in 2018.
Over the next few months, I will be processing more pictures and posting them here.
So, have a look and hope you enjoy.
Charleston, South Carolina
One of my favorite places to vacation is Charleston, South Carolina, a picturesque southern city on the Atlantic Ocean.
I have stayed in Charleston several times over the years, and I really enjoy myself every time I go there.
Ft Sumter, South Carolina
This picture is of the American Civil War fort of Ft Sumter. The fort is situated in the middle of Charleston Harbor, at the site of the first military action of the American Civil War in 1861.
I had seen the fort many times but never had a chance to go into the fort due to medical issues at the time (an Issue that eventually led to my left leg being amputated).
It is on my bucket list to visit in the future.
This picture was taken near Ft Moultrie on Sullivan’s Island.
USS Yorktown
This picture is of the World War II carrier USS Yorktown.
This is the second carrier named USS Yorktown, built soon after the original was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the World War II Battle of Midway.
USS Yorktown sits on the Cooper River in a neat military park called Patriots Point.
Drum Island Ferry Boat
This is a picture of a ferry boat near Drum Island taken from Patriots Point. Charleston's famous Arthur Ravenel Bridge sits just to the left.
I plan on posting more pictures in the coming weeks, and I hope you enjoy
Thank you for reading, and have a nice day.
