Going to heaven has nothing to do with our works. No one is perfect (Romans 3:23). Our sin debt has to be paid for. Jesus paid that debt for us so that all who put their trust in what he did are forgiven and saved eternally from hell. If you think you have to add to this by being a good person, turning from your sin/stop sinning, getting water baptized, or by following the commandments, you are adding to the gospel. Romans 11:6 and Ephesians 2:8-9 show that faith/grace and works do not mix for salvation. And once you are saved, you are saved forever (John 5:24).
