In addition I schedule 1 or 2 events per day, which will throw out an event popup when I schedule them and another when the event starts.

If you can't handle it or don't like it, there's an easy solution and only one solution: leave the group.

You will not qualify for group giveaways if you leave the group or receive notifications for great offers and giveaways I hear about from all around the net, but you can't have everything.
