With the latest update, Steam Trading went out of beta, which means that you can now trade with anyone through Steam.

In addtion 2 more games were added to the list of games that you can trade items with. Those 2 games are Portal 2 and Spiral Knights, which is free-2-play.

However trading Portal 2 Items seems to not work properly at the moment.
Valve is still planning to add way more games to Steam Trading, so expect more news in the future.

1. Visit your Steam profile
2. Click on "Mange your X friends"
3. On the left side click on "Select: All" then on the right side click on "Invite Selected to Group" and choose the group "Item & Game Trading"

Today Valve launched the Steam Trade Beta, which allows trading of items and steam gift copies through steam.

Currently it's only possible to trade Team Fortress 2 Items and gift copies, however more games will follow soon, Portal 2 being the next one.

How to install the Steam Trade Beta:
From the Steam Client, open Steam->Settings and select the ‘Steam Trading Beta’ option. The Steam Client will then need to restart in order to download and apply the change.

Steam Trading allows trades with people who are in the same chatroom. This allows trades with strangers, if you join a group chat.
