The Website - Why, what, when, and feedback needed
Why
This year in August we'll reach 10 years since I first created the group and curator, and while I'm very happy with where we are with it now, it does have several limitations. There are many subjects I can't talk about due to the being on Valve's platform and having to follow their rules. At the same time, this community has always been focused on one single thing - Denuvo, and that's on purpose.

I came up with the idea for a website because I wanted to expand to many more subjects, because the world is only getting worse, and there are worse things than Denuvo. I also wanted to expand past sheer information, and actually try and teach people things. Did you know that about 80% of internet users don't use an adblocker and that most of them never even heard of it? How about the fact that a lot of people never heard of or know what a VPN is?

Or how about all the companies and governments in the world doing anti consumer things or breaching our human rights and taking more and more of our rights and privacy away? Or how about the so called shrinkflation and other scummy practices that a lot of the time go unnoticed?

We've already accomplished some great things with this community and already influenced some companies to do better. But there are limitations, and creating my own platform will allow me to take the fight further. I plan to work with as many consumer advocacy groups and people as possible to push for better. We've already seen what people like Louis Rossman and Ross Scott were able to do, and they couldn't have done it without having their own platforms.

What
So what is the website exactly about?

I've been brainstorming everything for a while, and the list is not final. Here are some things that will be in it:
  • Lists, lists, lists - lists of many things helping keep track of many malicious actors in the world, such as shrinkflation, abuse, anti consumer practices, government overreach and much more
  • Tutorials - adblockers, VPNs, phone related things beyond just buying the phone and installing things from the App Store/Play Store with all their restrictions, and in general a lot of tutorials about how to be in control as much as possible on the internet, and how to spot malicious behavior both on and outside the internet
  • News - what's going on in the world that affects us as consumers, citizens, people and more, including old news from things that happened before the website went live
  • More to be determined, and your suggestions are more than welcome
When
First of all, why isn't the website here already? The reality is that the whole thing is very expensive. I recently reached out to someone and I was quoted 1500-2000 USD for the features that I want. I've also been trying to make sure that when the website goes live, everything is in order and I'm not breaking any rules. Things like GDPR for example.

Before I continue with this subject though, let's get one important thing out of the way first.

Monetization
Everything I've done for the past 10 years I've done for free, because while time is money, beyond paying for the internet I've had no costs myself for this whole project. Part of the way I've been able to do that has been the thing I mentioned at the beginning of this announcement - using someone else's platform.

Unfortunately, with the move to my own platform, not only do I need to pay to have the website created and for the branding, but I will also have ongoing costs such as the domain and hosting. The hosting will also keep increasing in price as the traffic increases. At the same time, I will have to put a lot more time in it than in the curator, time which I don't really have at the moment, but at least I can focus on quality over quantity for the time being.

So how to monetize? I need your feedback on this too, but here are some key facts and ideas:
  • Ads - these would only be displayed in such a way that they don't interrupt an article or list, they wouldn't interfere with the content (keep in mind I will also create a tutorial about how to block ads on PC, consoles, TVs, phones etc, which people are free to use on the website too). The problem with ads is that they tend to collect data and I don't know if there is a way for me to opt out of personalized ads. Though what I can do at least would be to add a cookie consent popup that actually respects your choice, not just pretending.
  • Donations - one time or subscription. I don't know if that would include any perks, but I'm thinking something like, after you pay for a certain amount of months in total or donate a total amount, ads are removed forever. Also I would like subscriptions not to renew automatically and exploit people that forgot to cancel, because that's anti consumer. If I know how to implement all these things, it's how I'd like it to be.
  • Merch - this would only be coming later most likely since it requires an investment and setup, plus the brand would need to be big enough for anyone to care about it to be relevant
  • No content or restrictions will ever be implemented for people not paying, knowledge and information need to be free. Also no selling people's data, no sponsorships from anti consumer companies, and no sponsorships from anyone that doesn't allow a fair review of the product or wants me to use a script.
When - part 2
I think since the whole thing is very expensive, I might have to start the website without some of the planned features so that I don't have to wait 2 more years. I've been saving up for it and I think I might be able to get a website at least with most of the planned features soon, even if not all right away. I also need to find someone to create the branding, which also costs. On top of this I also need to make sure I'm fully compliant with all the laws and everything is working properly. If everything goes as planned, the website should be live in the second part of the year.

In conclusion
I would really appreciate any ideas, feedback and criticism about everything I talked about here. I would especially appreciate feedback and ideas about the content and monetization side of things. For example anything I didn't mention that you would like or think would work.

Hopefully I can also announce the name soon.

having a denuvo or similar on monopoly = great way to kill a multiplayer game and prevent more players from getting a game that benefits from more players :)
