I'm done with the tagging. DONE! I can't believe it.
What will I do with my time now?
*glances at the pile of things that were neglected over the weeks...*
Sigh!

If you don't care about Queer as Folk (or icons) and/or don't know anything about journal layouts, you might want to skip this entry.
How great is it when best made plans fall through because of a technicality? For weeks now I've been working on tagging (and cleaning) every entry on LiveJournal's
qaficons (for those who don't know, LiveJournal chose me to maintain that community when people complained about the lack of adminitration over there), and although I've still got 300 or so entries to tag, I'm so sick of it by now that I decided to take a break from that and start working on the community layout. I found exactly what I was looking for - a layout with a sidebar where I could write the rules of the community and display the community tags to make it easier for people (especially newcommers) to find what they want. Everything worked fine on LJ (your're welcome to check it out), and although I'm planning to make the design more qaf related, the layout is as it's supposed to be.
The real PROBLEM is on InsaneJournal, where I maintain a simmilar community. I had this idea of using the same layout over there as well (and perhaps try to back up all the entries made prior to the creation of that community, although I don't know if it's possible to do that), and to encourage people to visit and use both communities (I'm kind of tired of the old LJ vs IJ division) and to bring about even more icon love. BUT (and here's where I need you help) the layout I chose for the LiveJournal community is made with Flexible Squares. As you might know, InsaneJournal doesn't offer Flexible Squares as a style. The only way that I know of that allows users to have a Flexible Squares layout is by using layers, which requires a paid account. Is there any way to make it work with a basic account? Any way at all? I'll try anything once, even if it's voodoo or dark magic.
I'm more or less resigned to having to choose from IJ's limited layout styles, but I still have a tiny bit of hope that someone will come up with a great magic potion. It's Queer as Folk. And icons. Miracles do happen, right?
ETA: Thanks to the generous and fantastic
not_yet_defined,
qaf_icons is now a paid (or self-committed) acount! Isn't that great?? Go over there and see the prettiness!

President Obama.
It still doesn't feel real. I hope he's everything we want and need him to be - and more!

I'm almost with a foot out the door to celebrate Christmas in the country, but I couldn't leave without wishing all of you the very best of holidays and a most wonderful New Year. I know the economy has had much better days, but at this time of the year there's always hope for better things to come. So have a laugh with your friends and family and enjoy yourself. 2009 (and the worries that come with it) will arrive soon enough.

It's been two months since I began my internship (and since my last post) and I'm still getting used to my new role. I've finished translating Presenting (which was very hard work) and I'm already working on another book: Golf: 50 Great Tips (even harder work since I had no knowledge of the subject before I started the translation). I haven't received any feedback on the first translation yet, but I did my best, so I'm hoping it'll be alright.
When I'm not translating, I'm usually watching tv shows to unwind (besides reading fanfiction and while I'm making icons). I watch many many different shows (just ask my hard drive, which is always running out of space), but only a few of them make my hear beat faster and leave me breathless and wanting more at the end of every episode. Right now, the shows I'm most most excited about are (shows currently airing on television, I mean, and all the time obsessions notwithstanding): Supernatural, Grey's Anatomy, Merlin (UK), Legend of the Seeker, Gossip Girl, Prison Break and Desperate Housewives. I've also developed a taste for historical romance novels as of late. The downside? There aren't enough hours in a day to do everything I need and want to do.

After a Summer away from home, I'm finally back. Well, if it was up to me I'd still be there, but it's time to come back to the responsibilities of real life. I've been feeling a little out of sorts lately, perhaps because I'm on the threshold of something new. Everything is changing at a scary rate and sometimes I just wish they could remain the same forever. One of the many disadvantages of growing up, I suppose. I guess it's true what they say. You can never go home again, you can only go forward, wherever that is. I'll just have to take the most out of it. Apparently, having this much free time on my hands makes me wonder about the meaning of life.
My point is... I'm back and I've more or less caught up on everything I missed. I was sad I wasn't able to participate in the
qaf_giftxchnge and the
qaf_scavenger's kissing contest, but there's always next time, right? On that note, things have been pretty slow in the fandom, haven't they? Is it the holidays and real life, or are people moving on to greener pastures? I know that Jensen and Jared are roommates and carpool to the set everyday, and that Gale is dazzling desperate housewives, but there will always be something to be said about the greatest love story gay sex on television, right?

...Although my computer barely survived. I don't know what it is about me and disk drives, they just don't seem to last very long (two years, give or take) without major failures happening all over the place. Last Saturday I shut it down to take it to my country manor without stables but with a pool in Celorico (where I've been going to quite a lot this Summer) and when I turned it on again windows crashed on me. So when I got home again, I had work to do. Man, I had forgotten how much crap I had saved over the years. It took forever to get it somehow organized and I still have a lot to do.
I'm going back to Celorico tonight and I'll be back next Tuesday or something like that - the wonders of having two houses. All that is missing there is Internet access. Someday, someday. I haven't felt much like doing anything here. The heath is starting to get to me and being in Porto is becoming unbearable. I'm hoping to find inspiration and will to make icons there. And I have to watch Supernatural 3x16. Can't find courage to do that. It's been sitting on my hard drive since it aired and I just can't bring myself to watch it since I know what's going to happen.
Anyway, I survived college! I finally graduated and can move on to greener pastures! Although I haven't had any news on my internship yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one. I really want to translate for a publishing company.
On other news, I went to Pride on July 12! I couldn't make my obligatory news post about the event since I left for Celorico right away, but I can't let the event pass without a mention of some sort. This year I had so much much fun! Third time's the charm, I suppose. I got to help carry the BIG LGBT flag and even though it was very tiring, running back and forth with it, there were some very special moments that I'll never forget.

The 27th June is finally FINALLY here! Tomorrow I'll do my English oral on Atonement (God, can anyone say depressive much? I had already watched the movie (which is good, but not as good as the book), but the descriptions of the war and the hospitals killed me.) and THEN I can rest for a while until I know the results of the two exams I took. I hope I don't have to retake them in July.
( Book Meme - I read a lot, but not the right books, apparently!Collapse )
It has been a long week, month, year. I'll be glad when it's all over.
