Volunteers

We have record attendance at this event and we need help! We are seeking volunteers to help direct traffic between the first couple sessions and at lunch time. If you are willing to help please email volunteers@utahgeekevents.com

Lunch

You will be given a bag when you register in the morning with a ticket inside the bag for lunch. The red ticket will be for the 1st floor and the blue ticket will be for the 3rd floor. We don’t mind where you end up but please pick up your lunch on the floor based on the ticket you received. We will be separating lunch across the 1st and 3rd floors so that everyone can move through the lunch lines quickly. Our location has asked that we not eat in the classrooms but instead use the hall/open space areas. We will be providing box lunches so that this is easy for you to sit down in an open area and eat. A cafe is located on the 5th floor with lots of room to sit. Lots of other open areas exist throughout the building as well.

Sessions

The session schedule has been updated on the site and should not be changing before the weekend. Now is a good time to head over to the schedule and make sure of what sessions you want to see Link to Schedule.

Session Feedback

We will have a new way for you to provide feedback for each session.

  1. You will be able to scan a QR code with each room you go into and that will bring up a survey in a browser window on your phone
  2. The Schedule located here. Will have a link to a survey form for each session.

Good feedback is critical to speakers so they can improve their speaking abilities. We hope that you will take the time to provide feedback. Please be detailed in your feedback and tell the speakers what they can do to improve. Things like “Speaker needs to talk louder”,”Speaker needs to engage audience”,”Speaker should be better prepared and have tested demo to make sure it worked properly”. All of these things help the speakers to improve specific parts of the session.

We will have another email sent out tomorrow with the final items that you need to know.

Thank you

Where is it and where do I park?

Map Link: Map

We are aware of the UofU vs USC football game this weekend @8:00 p.m. All the parking marked on the map is open for Saturday. If possible using Trax is a good option as well and the link for Trax is below.

Trax: http://bit.ly/1is7I1Y this is a link to the South Campus Station you can find all the bus routes and trax lines that service this stop here.

GuideBook

GuideBook is a mobile app you can download to get access to the schedule and all the pertinent information about the event. We strongly suggest everyone get the guide for your phone. The App will automatically update if we have changes in the schedule. It is free to download.

Guidebook: Digital Schedule and info about the conference available on most phones. Map

Wireless

We will have an open wireless access point at the event. Yes the wireless has a chance at being slow (or worse than slow). Please be patient and understand this is a free event, with free wireless and most likely 500+ tech geeks with an average of 2 devices per person. We will do everything we can to keep the wireless working well and quickly. If you can avoid putting multiple devices on the wireless please do so.

Sponsors

We have lots of awesome sponsors for this event. When you visit a sponsor booth you will be asked if they can scan your badge. Doing so opt’s you in for that sponsor only. The organizers of the event will never send out your information to anyone without your permission. We do suggest you visit the sponsors since they will have great prizes to give away and we will do drawings based on the scans at the booth.

Shirts!

We have 500 t-shirts to hand out at the event and they will be first come first serve. We have various different sayings on them and you are welcome to trade with your friends. Please do not trade around the registration desk so we can keep registering people. This is a good chance to chat with someone new if they have a shirt that you want.

We will have more information about the event tomorrow we hope to see you this weekend!

Thank you

SQL Saturday Madison

This might be my shortest post ever!   I had a wonderful time at SQL Saturday Madison last weekend.  My photo’s are all located at the link below.   I would love to write more about my experience but I’m already off to another SQL Saturday in Las Vegas.  The following weekend after that event i’ll be organizing and presenting at Big Mountain Data(www.utahgeekevents.com).  So I might not get a chance to blog too much before then.  Have to catch up later!
