<lj:music>"Put It In a Love Song" - Alicia Keys ftr. Beyonce</lj:music>

Weather's been crazy lately. We've been getting a mad amount of snow, but the temperature has been hovering around the freezing point. This morning it was snowing and the snow banks were melting at the same time. Crazy.

I finally got my paws on Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers #1.

I absolutely adore it. :3

I usually hate Nick Roche's art (ugh, Kup's chiiiiiin), but some way, somehow, he managed to draw the new Wreckers very ... cute. Honestly. Prisonsuit-rabbitman sums it up perfectly. Especially the last panel.

Big, BIG bonus: Roche didn't screw up <strike>Uncle</strike> Ultra Magnus. Actually, I quite like Magnus' personality in this - a giant Dorkbot. :p Well, at least he is with Verity. Not so sure how I feel about her being on the ship with them but I like what I've seen of her so far. I hope they explain how she got there, but I think they will. In any case, Roche didn't do too bad a job drawing an older version of her.

Primus, I can't get over how the new Wreckers are so cute. Strike fear into the hearts of Decepticons with big. Puppy-dog, Eyes. LOL.

    <lj:music>"Anti-Venom" - Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker</lj:music>

New announcement today. Apparently Hasbro really is going to make a Drift toy. o_O I wasn't overly impressed with him in the comics since he screams Gary Stu to me.

But.

But his toy tempts me. =/

Gonna add him to my wish list then. TF: Animated Arcee and Rodimus <strike>Prime </strike>Minor are already on it. So is G1 <strike>Sky</strike>Jetfire. And, as I was just reminded, War for Cybertron Optimus (he's not Prime yet though).

But my greatest wish is Masterpiece Ultra Magnus. I might have saved enough red pocket money to buy him now. <3 (Note: I don't get much per pocket, so it's actually taken me a while to save up. Besides, outings with friends sometimes dent my "<strike>toy</strike> action figure" fund. :D) If I can't find a cheaper priced MP Ultra Magnus at this year's TFCon, I'll just bite the bullet and order him online. Then I'd have to save up to buy the City Commander armor set from FanProject. XD Ah, the endless cycle of life. :p

Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year, or plain ol' Feb 14, 2010. ^^

Now, I'm off to succumb to this food coma. <lj:music>"Ordinary Miracle" - Sarah Maclachlan</lj:music>

I was sort of ... underwhelmed with the Olympic opening ceremony.

The SFX was amazing, and so were most of the performers. kd lang really nailed it tonight (but what was up with her neck!?!). Sarah Maclachlan was awesome as well! However the cultural aspect of the program was mish-mashy. I really didn't see the point to it, and for me, it didn't portray Canada all that well. The choreography for most of the dance routines seemed disorganized, or maybe because there weren't enough dancers to fill up the stage, imo. For such a big space, it sure was empty.

There were also a few snafu moments. There was the late arrival of the Four Nations chiefs, and also the mechanical breakdown of the Olympic Flame cauldron. These things happens, but oi, what a time for them to happen!

Apparently an American commentator (I was switching from CTV to NBC whenever one went to commercial break :D) said Canada was boring.

Sadly .... I have to agree with him on this one. =/

... but I'm not.

I have a super early day tomorrow, and this is my first clinical with a 12-hour shift (yikes!) but I feel too antsy to sleep. So I thought I'd update my poorly neglected LJ in an attempt to unload stuff off my chest and get calm enough to sleep.

This semester is kicking my aft, but I'm glad with the way it's going so far. No super early days, but I don't have that many breaks in between long classes. I'm pretty exhausted when I come home, and though I can keep up with my (very few) LJ and forum commitments, I find it hard to be really involved in anything. I wish I had the time and inspiration to be excited and passionate about my fandoms again, but for now all I can manage is to put myself in cruise control when I browse through LJ.

Well, I finally installed Vista (when Windows 7 already came out, lol) and I have to say, I like it. So far my computer isn't screwing up on me (XP totally went to shit a week or two ago; a virus is the suspected reason), so I have my fingers crossed that my run with Vista will go much better. I do not look forward to reformatting my hard drive and installing an OS again.

On a sadder note, Finley died. -_- This teaches me to buy a fish from Petsmart. Bettas live an average of 3 years, and I think he was just shy of 2 years. Tumours just started springing up inside him, and well, I tried my best. =/ May he swim in peace in the big fish bowl in the sky.

Everything else in my life is the same, sad enough.

In any case, I hope everyone on my f-list is doing well. :)

    <lj:music>"Lose my Breath" - Destiny's Child</lj:music>

While looking for All Hail Megatron #16, I accidentally stumbled on some StarCraft comics.

Whuh? Since when did they make SC comics?

Apparently, DC does and it started this year. XD And it's co-written by none other than Simon Furman himself!

The art in the comic is kind of confusing, especially during action scenes. Sometimes I can't even tell the humans apart (too many bald dudes ;_;) and the style isn't something I usually go for. But the plot is interesting and it has to do with SC2 canon.

This is relevant to my interests since I've been waiting for SC2 for over a decade.

That game honestly can't come soon enough. ;_; It was the first game that truly made me feel for the characters. I still hate Mengsk with a passion. I still identify with Raynor and wish him all the best. I still feel sorry for Kerrigan (yes, even after Brood War). I still <s>want to pounce on</s> miss Tassadar. And Fenix. I'd say I felt sorry for Zeratul, but he'd probably punch me in the back of the head.

The first time I saw Tassadar sacrifice himself, I actually cried.

So I can't wait to see what the next game brings. Hell, I MADE this computer just to play it (and Diablo 3, which I hope comes out soon too).

But what I sort of don't like is how branched the canon-media has become. Oh, I love the richness of the 'history' of the game universe and all, but I feel that in order to know everything, you'd need to buy multiple novels, comics, and other things. Yes it fleshes out the story more, but a) it feels like a cash grab (which it is) and b) it feels like a bloody research project. (Major?) Characters from these other sources (i.e. outside the first game) will make appearances in SC2, and argh, I'd like to know more about them before actually playing them. Hopefully Blizzard finds a way to intro them without making me feel left in the dark, because that would completely turn me off.

Sigh. Ah well, in Blizzard we trust. :p

Now, for a dose of AWESOME!

<lj-embed id="4" />

For the past two days I've been popping Tylenol like candy <s>but they didn't help with the pain anyway</s>. I'm sad that the section I got stuck in doesn't have any of my close friends in it. Thankfully I do know people in my class, so I'm not completely "stranded". But still, they're only acquaintances, and lunch time can have so many awkward silences in it. >.<

I'm giving up my Friday position at bleach_news and becoming a back-up. I need the time to study/work, and I've fallen out of love with Bleach. It used to be a good series, but lately I haven't even bothered to read the chapters. If KT stops butchering the Arrancar for shits and giggles, maybe then we'll talk. But for now, bleh.

As for "work", I'm tempted to become a lab assistant at my school, but also afraid I'll screw up in some disastrous way. I don't exactly need the money, but it would be good experience and a good way to learn. But the coordinator is strict (though nice) so yeah, makes me even more nervous to apply. =/

Good news is that my clinical placement is located about 25-30 minutes from my home. Wish I always had Thurs and Fri off, but this is only for the first week before clinical starts.

Edit: Oh! Also, my phone charms from Japan came in.
Internet connection sucks ass atm. The speed is inconsistent, and so is the connection. SOOOOO changing my internet package to something else now. Thanks for nothing, Bell. -_- (To any I owe logs to, I'm sorry D: )

In other news, the contractor painted the downstairs washroom door. My dog now sports a cute white streak on her butt. :p It's very chic.

We ran out of bread crumbs while making dinner. My cousin and I improvised by crushing some garlic-flavoured bagel chips. It was full of lulz, and the meatloaf turned out OK.

... OK, you know life is boring when you're looking forward to school starting again. ^^ You can only play so much Elite Beat Agents before you want to do something else.

New net is meh so far. Not really impressed, but it isn't so bad that I want to change it. Will give it a bit more time before I decided whether to keep or switch it.

Switching to Vista is scaring the crap out of me. Do not want to "upgrade" and then find out something isn't compatible. Oy.

Having way too much fun at this cell phone strap site. Wish I had more money to spend on it, even though they're just trinkets. :) But they're cute trinkets. XD

Noticing a change in weather patterns in the past few years. Winters have been way colder than in past memory, and summers have become colder and rainier too. Also, we didn't use to have tornadoes in Ontario before, but it seems to be on the rise. Eek, very scary.

Hmm, Twitter seems to still be on the fritz, at least for me.

Got my timetable for next semester, so I'm happy. What I'm not happy about is who my Human Disease Processes professor is. I've heard lots of bad things about him (not that he's mean, or even bad looking, but I hear his teaching method sucks) but I have no choice in the matter. I just hope I can trade places with someone in another section @_@.

Man, speaking of school, it starts in a little more than two weeks! OMG where did the summer go? ;_; I also saw the draft list for clinical placements, and I like where I'm being placed (OB ward!) so I hope they keep it that way! I got shafted the last semester, and I'm still pretty upset by it.

Vista still hasn't been installed, but I got my new internet. Yay for finally being able to manage to download videos and music. ;_;

Hanging out with my cousin has resulted in lots of lulz. :)

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Since my cousin arrived last week, it's been pretty hectic. She's staying with us for university so we're still in the process of setting her up and getting her settled. But so far we've gotten a lot of lulz in. :) Dynasty Warriors: Gundam is super fun.

Renovations have momentarily paused, but will pick up again sometime next week (joy).

If I suddenly disappear from the net, it's probably due to several things:

I'm going to upgrade to Windows Vista. For some reason FireFox 3.0 won't play flash, which means no youtube, normal Gmail, etc. Yeah, I don't want to put up with it anymore. One day, I'll get Windows 7. One day ... ;_;

I'm upgrading my internet. Finally I can increase my speed and bandwidth limit so I can actually watch youtube (relatively) guilt free! And One Manga! XD Oh yes, and school, mm, very important.

I'm going to share the internet with said cousin, so yes, wireless router ahoy. I have notoriously bad luck with such things, so I hope we can connect the internet and her laptop without too much hassle

Saw Ponyon on the Cliff by the Sea. Very cute movie, but very, very simple. It's no where near as "complex" as Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away. I think it's more like ... Totoro.

Eventually, will try to wrangle my brother and cousin to see GI Joe. I'm not expecting amazing plot, so will not care if it's all ninja on ninja action.

School continues to be a pain in the ass. I don't have a timetable yet, though I did partially pay my tuition kinda late. -_- But that means I have to go to school and ask them to add me in. Argh, I'll save that for next Monday.

... to my room. Renovations, that is. Well at least they're relatively minor. They're going to pull out the carpet and replace it with "wood". They'll also change my Venetian blinds for new ones.

But that means I have to clean out my room and move all my stuff.

Boo.

Aside from finding copious amounts of dust mooses (dust bunnies have nothing on these), I've also found some old fanfiction, the ones I wrote on paper. Wowee, I sure wrote some ... special things. >.> And by special, I mean gotta-wear-helmets-all-the-time-to-keep-from-hurting-yourself kind of special. Still, I felt a little bad ripping them up and throwing them away. It was like re-discovering a childhood dream and then letting it go.

I also found the books I read in my younger years. I will now start to date myself.

Nancy Drew. Hardy Boys. Babysitter's Club. Black Stallion. Goosebumps. You can probably tell when I was a teen with that last one. XD Dang, do they even sell these in bookstores anymore!?!

But man, I need to find a way to sell my old novels and text books.
First off, welcome to everyone who added me from axiomnexus! The game's going great so far, and hopefully with the acceptance of my second character, I can have even more fun there!

Secondly, a bit of a rant (yeah, I kinda do this a lot).

I helped my mom move her stuff out of her room in preparation for some new wallpaper (or paint; she hasn't really decided). Man does she have a lot of linen and towels. -_- I mean, she collects bed-in-a-bags, bedsheets, towels, fancy plates, etc. But I digress.

At 9 p.m. she tells me, oh, uh, we have to strip the old wall paper off before the contractor comes in tomorrow morning.

...... WHAT?

After much disbelief over why the contractor couldn't do it himself (I'm still not sure why), I got to wallpaper stripping.

Ugh. First we had to peel the top layer of the wallpaper off. Then soak the bottom layer with warm water before peeling that off since the glue has to come undone. Aaaaaargh, five mind numbing hours of moving big, heavy furniture, dusting, and wallpaper wrangling. My finger nails hurt from all the picking I did. And that was with help from the butter knife (yeah, my dad only had one spatula-thingy so I got to use a butter knife).

It's 3:30 a.m. atm and I'm too sore to sleep (but I think I'm too sleepy to be coherent). And I had some leftover chicken at 1-something a.m. cuz we all got hungry. But it's done. OMG it's done.

Strange how renovations in one part of the house migrates to all different parts of the house. But I guess this old home needs the upgrades. I don't think we're even done with all the (unexpected) planned upgrades. Argh.

    <lj:music>"Her Diamonds" - Rob Thomas</lj:music>

Leave me a comment and I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.

Update your journal with the answers to the questions.

Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

1. What is your dream job if anything was possible?
If anything was possible? Gundam pilot. :D What, you said anything! But I probably wouldn't make it since my hand-eye coordination is kind of bad. >.> So is my tactical skills, come to think of it. Ever see me play RTS games? Yeah, not pretty.

Realistically though, I'd love to be a well-known author, not necessarily famous like J.K. Rowlings <s>or Stephanie Meyers</s>. I know my writing is passable but it's not great. I'd love to write an original novel in the style of Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett, something really funny yet still profound.

2. What is your perfect day?
Hmm, my perfect day? Is really, where I can relax either by myself or with family/friends. You know, those lazy Saturday/Sundays where all the chores are done, and there's little to do but eat, nap, and read the comics/watch a movie/shop at a mall. What can I say, I am a <s>boring</s> low maintenance person. ;)

3. What really inspires you and excites you in life?
Number one thing that inspires me has to be music. I like a wide range of music, so when I hear an old favourite or a really catchy new song, I just feel so happy. Also, the lyrics from some songs really speak to me, like the lyrics of Jann Arden or Chantal Kreviazuk.

Another thing that inspires me is a good book. I love reading a novel that can transport me to a whole new world. Sounds cliche, but it's true. ;) More recently, I've found some poetry that has done the same thing. It's amazing what a few simple words can do to you.

4. What defines you as a person?
Hmm, this is a toughie. I'm not sure how to answer this. But I like to think I stick up for my principles and morals, even if it's uncool or whatever (people have asked me to smoke pot before, and I said no. I don't care if others do it, but pot or other drugs is something I won't do).

5. What does happiness mean to you?
I think everyone deserves to be happy as long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's happiness/safety/freedom etc. Happiness can be free or it can be bought and it's different for everyone. Kind of related to #3, this question reminds me of a poem, part of which is in my side bar. Silver-Lined Heart by Taylor Mali

Okay, I guess my TF goggles are on. I spotted the movie!Bumblebee toy on the top banner of today's newspaper's business section. Heh, it helps he's bright yellow. :)

Anyway, according to this article, the TF2 movie and upcoming GI Joe movie have bumped up Hasbro's profits.

So? We might be getting a Hasbro channel in late 2010 that will run GI Joe, My Little Ponies, and Transformers! Rejoicing now!

I hope it's not a specialty channel, and if it is, I hope my TV package gets it. Hell, I hope we get a new Transformers cartoon!

Hahaha, I know I'm not a kid anymore, but I do love me some alien robots that change shape. :p

Also, their profits are projected to go up again due to the upcoming Iron Man 2 movie (yay!) and Toy Story 3.
<lj-embed id="3" />

This is pissing me off. A lot.

My mom likes to watch CNN, so when this commercial comes strolling through during a break, it really shocked me.

Forgive me if I offend anyone, but what the fuck!?!

Leave Canada out of this, please. >=/ Our health care system works fine for us. It has saved both my parents' lives several times, and they didn't have to wait six months for shit. You know why some people wait six months or longer? Because a medical doctor has deemed they can wait that long. If their condition is dire, you can be sure they move up to the front of the line.

Effing Hell ... our health care is not perfect but we aren't leaving people to die on the street. I don't know what's the deal with the chick in the commercial, but from what I and my family have experienced, that shit does not happen. >.<

Every time I see that commercial, my blood boils. (link in case the video doesn't embed properly.)

Edit: Someone brought up a good point. Even if that woman gets medical care outside Canada, she will get reimbursed for her medical expenses. So basically, the Canadian government is still paying for her health care, and she's gonna whine about it. Argh.

    <lj:music>"Almost Easy" - Avenge Sevenfold</lj:music>

As I was BBQing some ribs in the backyard, I had a revelation. A geeky, Transformers related revelation.

Optimus Prime and Co. are not that old.

OK, let's have some context first.

G1 Optimus Prime was easily over 4 million years old. Hell, TF: A Ratchet was over 4 million as well. But 2007!Movie Prime is probably only a few thousand.

Why do I say this?

It's been established in the movie that The Fallen and the other Primes were still alive when early man existed. By early man, I mean early modern man, Homo sapien, because that's what they looked like in the movie (unless Bay was just saving on make-up for a bigger SFX budget, lol). According to my half-assed research, modern humans go back about 250, 000 BC. So, take into account the whole Fallen and his followers wiping out the Prime dynasty, of which Optimus came from but was too young to remember/learn his heritage ... yeah. Only a couple hundred thousand years passed from when Optimus was rescued to when he arrived on Earth. And that's assuming Optimus was the orphan that was hidden away; it could easily have been his ancestor instead.

This is all hinging on which species of Homo we saw in the movie. Even if it was supposed to be an earlier throw-back of humans, the earliest species was Homo habilis, around 2.4 million years BC. That's still millions of years younger than G1 Optimus.

... And this had absolutely no real point. :) Oh, and Bull's Eye BBQ Sauce is okay, though I'm not crazy about it.

Also, R.I.P. Martin Streek. I didn't always liked what you said over the radio, but I respected that you were brave enough to say what was on your mind, whatever the consequences. Saturday Nights at the Phoenix will never be the same without you. I hope you find rest now. And yes, I pin most of the blame on the radio station that fired you after 20 years of working there! For no other reason than they wanted to replace you with someone else. Bah. I understand keeping things up to date, but it cost someone their life's work, not to mention their life.

... I think 102.1 the Edge has been losing its edge for a while now, though. -_-

    <lj:music>"Never Say Never" - The Fray</lj:music>

I flipped through the comic adaptation of Revenge of the Fallen.

Here's my review: it's as confusing as the movie. Don't bother buying it. Some of the art was good, but most of the time (i.e. when the humans are there) they looked really deformed.

All Hail Megatron #12 on the other hand, is fraggin' amazing! God, so many pages made me fangasm!!!

I like this Starscream now. I like Kup now. Thundercracker was awesome, though the thing with him and Skywarp reminds me of the plot from Comics in Disguise. And one of my pet theories has been shot to the ground, but them's the breaks. This is still a comic worth buying. Can't wait to see the 4 issues that'll bridge the gap between AHM and whatever follows. Cover of Optimus and Ironhide looks epic! Too bad Guido Guidi isn't drawing for it anymore. ;_;

Spotlight: Cliffjumper was cute, but nothing important. Can't wait for Spotlight: Metroplex.

The RP seems to be starting off nicely. :)

Last night, as I was filling out some forms online, I saw the back end of a huge-ass bug (as told on Twitter). It buggered off (heh) so I didn't pay it much mind. Till I went to bed, that is.

Like a cheap horror movie, the sounds it made just got closer and closer. First I heard the blinds moving (but the A/C wasn't running and the window was closed!). Then I heard a few papers rustling. Closer and closer it came until I said, "#$*^ this," and ... went to sleep on the couch downstairs. -_-

The couch wasn't as comfortable as I remembered it to be (though the last time I slept on the couch was during an all-nighter though technically it's no longer an all nighter if I slept a little ...). And it was noisy downstairs. I could hear the wall clock, the fish tank, and the fridge. And just when I was falling asleep the dog started to snore.

Argh.

She snored pretty loud too, holy moly.

So yeah, I'm tired right now, and sore. But come Hell or high water, I am going to clean my room today (and hopefully get rid of that effin' bug if I find it). Ugh.
