Hornblower Back Track

Episode: Frogs and Lobsters
Rating: On a scale of 1 to 10, 1= very good, and 10=awsome, this episode rates a 348 as it is just so awsome.

Archie.

Oh how I love him. He is just so dorky, lovable, sweet, beautiful, caring and he's a sparkly floofy crumpet.

Anyway, Hornblower buys a snazzy new uniform and for the FIRST TIME EVER I don't have the screen cap I need to show you all why this is so marvelous. Hornblower gets back on the ship and Archie is in awe of how fit Horatio is. Like woah. The gets up, that dorky grin on his face and circles Horatio. There is some obvious arse perving from Archie. He's so damn subtle that boy, not.

Well, okay, I do have "Archie in awe of SexGod!Horatio". My bad.

I know this is slightly not so 'the pure sex' but I adore the 'ugly crew' because even though Archie is Horatio's wife/husband, the 'ugly crew' are Horatio's extended Family.

There's Pellew (who is quite beautiful and isn't actually 'ugly crew') who is Horatio's father.

And Bracegirdle, Horatio's annoying but well meaning uncle.

Wellard = Horatio's nephew
Bush = Horatio's best man (as of course Horatio married Archie) and he so babysits Styles for Matthews in his spare time.

Matthews - the totally lovable uncle, together with Styles - part two of the lovable uncles front. However, watching Retribution again I've had to re think that. Matthew's is SO Styles' father-figure who doesn't beat him up.
And Oldroyd <3 I'll get to him in a moment.

Alright, I've been paying out on Styles a fair bit lately, but it's only because I love him. He's a childish man and he makes me smile. Anyway, I have posed this theory before. Styles is like a 6 year old boy with a crush on a girl. He'll pull her hair, push her into the dirt and other such horrible things because he thinks she'll notice him for the sexy man he is.

Except Styles is so directing all this odd loving at Oldroyd. Matthews endorses it because he is so a slash fangirl at heart.

Water buckets in the face this episode. Why hasn't Oldroyd got the hint yet?

And this shot never fails to make me laugh. Looook at him. Poutyfrogface!

And my two faaavourite archie/horatio fluff moments in this episode:

Moment the first:

Archie: Horatio! This is scary! I'm all panicy and I'm being silly so you need to assure me I'll be alright and stuff.
Horatio: Archie... ~~I love you~~ they aren't trying to hurt you.
Archie: they're trying to KILL ME YOU IDIOT!
Horatio: ...no they're not.

Horatio: you see, I've done some amazing research and know a lot about the situation that I've only just walked into. They have special guns that can't reach you... but keep your head down.
Archie: *is comforted*

...a few moments later

*some guys stands infront of Oldroyd and takes a bullet to the head*
Archie: Fucking bastard lied.

Moment the Second:

Horatio: *is mourning the loss of french girl. Even though he broke her leg, the jerk*
Archie: *stands by his side, as he is Horatio's pillar of support*

Lord Erdington: My dear crumpet, look after him.

~~Crumpet~~Archie: *dramatically* I ...will.
Lord Erdington: *even more dramatically, and brittish* See to it.

And Archie takes Horatio back to their ship and his father so Horatio can hear Pellew's marvelous words of wisdom on the meaning of life.

It's sunday, I've grown to love sundays...again. Why? Because Hornblower is back on. I might be simple, but I have yet to get bored of watching the same episdoes again, and again. . . and again.

Episode: Duchess and the Devil.
Rating: Sick!Archie-being-spoonfed-by-Horatio/10

As always, the soundtrack in Hornblower is top notch. I mean, holy fucking hell is it good. In particular the dramatic-fanfare theme, and the wispy-nautical theme. Very well composed and conducted and if anyone has a copy of them, please, please, PLEEEASE send them to me.

I would love you forever.

Edit: I take that back, you can all love me forever now.

Anyway, this episode really highlights Horatio's inability to comprehend sarcasm. I mean, he's been under the rule of Pellew for so long and he still doesn't get it when Pellew is being …Pellew. Granted, it is utterly adourable when Pellew decides to make his promotion sound like a demotion and Horatio looks like he's about to cry.
But hot damn, that boy just doesn't get sarcasm.

For Example:

Sarcastic Event One:

Pellew: Horatio, you're a greedy greedy bastard. You wanted that Spanish ship all to yourself so you'd get the money didn't you?
Horatio: I did not!! *pout*
Bracegirdle: *is silently laughing at Horatio*

Sarcastic Event Two:
Hornblower must attend a dinner. Bracegirdle and Hunter make fun of his panicky angst by teaching him how to serve monkey meat. Horatio is very grateful to them. Obviously wasn't picking up on the jealousy vibes radiating from those two.

There were some more of these events, but I feel bad for paying out on Horatio. He did get one joke though. I was so proud of him.

And ONWARDS! To my favourite moments this evening:

First off, the highlight of this episode. Archie being spoon-fed. *melts*

*is a happy pile of goo in a bucket right now*

Moving onwards to ~~Godzilla crushing the city~~ Hunter having a tantrum.

GRR! Kill those lemons Hunter! Everyone must die of scurvy, that'll show those Spanish bastards!

Midshipman Hornblower, means Midshipman hats:

They are the BEST hats in the world. If the other hats Horatio wears during the series aren't included on that list.

This is Oldroyd:

I quite like Oldroyd, and tonight I got Oldroyd/Styles vibes. Very wrong of me, but I feel I must defend them.
Styles, has the maturity of a 6 year old child, with a crush on the girl in front of him. I can see Styles pulling people's hair to let them know he thinks they're sex on legs.
Now, Oldroyd apparently was at fault for getting Hornblower put in the hole (not Hunter, nooo) but I'm thinking Styles was just using that as an excuse for hitting Oldroyd whenever he could.

Can't you see the love?

As I have seen this episode many, many times I ended up checking out the extras. I do that a lot actually. But the extra's in Hornblower are fantastic.

Spanish Guard One : Wellard's future Husband.

It is not, old man though. It's the guy who is ALWAYS standing behind him. Man, he is the Hornblower equivalent of Tezuka on the emotions front though.

Spanish Guard Two : THE Spanish Guard

This man, is a legend.
He stokes a fire and shows Horatio and Archie back to their cell, smiling and being generally suggestive. He's such a Horatio/Archie fanboy.

And now, because seriously, it's an episode with Archie and I've BARELY had ANY pictures of him at ALL! ! ! 1 ! ! one !

Though when I see him like this and still think he's a sex god, I realise I might actually love him just because he's Horatio Hornblower - World Class Dork and all-round nice guy.

Other points raised during this episode:
- Horatio stuffing his stockings was both hilarious, and adourable at the same time. I'm so utterly in love.
- Pellew is such a dude.
- The Duchess (aka Kitty) is SO Ms. Morwich - the overly happy english teacher at our school (both in looks, AND personality)
- Hunter is such a bastard and steals Archie's food. Jerkoff.
- There always seems to be a suicidal lunatic for each Hornblower episode. Bunting, Hunter, Wellard.
- Horatio's line "I wont survive if you don't help me" in his passionate "don't kill yourself Archie" speach made me melt in a happy pile.
- Hunter's stupid weapons: Hitting people with a gun, sharpened Rocks and a ring of keys.
- When Horatio was spending time with Kitty, Styles DARED to suggest Horatio was straight. Being in a prisson for so long has obviously broken his brain.
- Horatio actually swears. Often.
- In his hole, a rat climbs on Horatio's shoulder. He has a hissy fit, picks the rat up, puts it down safely, then continues the hissy fit. Awww.
- Spyglass vision is sexy.

Who's up for Hornblower?

Though I still can't work out what I did with my Duchess and the Devil DVD, someone out there (in the UK-TV offices) was nice to me.
For the first time in my life, I watched The Examination for Lieutenant from start to finish. *melts in happy goo*

And review time:

Alright. I liked this one. Even if there was no Archie. Oh Archie! I love him so.

I'm not recapping the episode. You can go here for a recap. I'm just going to share my amazing observations.

We begin with the important arrival of Mr. Pickwick.

I don't think I've laughed so hard in quite a while.

After we've established the fascinating politics of a neutral party declaring war, (ie Spain getting ready for kinky gaol fun) and gotten all the important characters introduced and out of the way, Horatio gets out his straw hat and goes out to a PLAGUE INFESTED PORT for some food.

And yet, I'm just amazed that I still think he is a beautiful pouty boy, even with an incredibly dorky straw hat on.

Man suddenly collapses in a splurge of blood and icky. He's got the plague.

Which is obviously a bad thing. Horatio doesn't quite understand it but he's quick on his feet. I mean, the plague MUST be a threat, and there is only one way to handle a threat.

Throw a row of Marines at it. Then hide behind them. They'll shoot that plague down good.

Sadly, it doesn't work like that, so Horatio gets a ship of his own for three weeks and has crazy adventures.
I would have paid more attention to crazy adventures if I wasn't constantly being distracted by how very pretty Horatio is.

And how Bunting is SO going to be Charlie Weasley in the potter movies. Else I am SO boycotting.

And how there is no better way to end an episode of Hornblower than with Horatio hugging a rope.

Oh he's such a pouty puppy.

Also I am so in love with the relationship between Pellew and Horatio. It is SO father-son-ish. MAAANLY father-son-ish... but like they're not quite sure what they should say or do around each other. Plus, when Horatio was about to go off and spend three weeks waiting for the plague to kill him, and he asks for his books it was most definitely their secret father-son-ish-code.
Horatio: Can you fetch my books sir. [Don't worry. I shan't die dad. I'll be back soon.]
blah blah
Pellew: I hope you find time to study. [Of course you'll come back son, but I don't think you'll have anymore luck studying on that ship than you did on this one.]

Pellew rocks. *loves on him*

As an end note, Horatio's attempts to study are very much like my attempts at studying today.

It's either too noisy, or you're being constantly interrupted.
Poor boy, I felt for him. I truly did.

Oh! and I forgot to mention that if you ever watch it, the arguement between Foster and someother character at the end is marvelously entertaining. Foster ends up sounding like the frenchmen in Search for the Holy Grail.

Oh I am being so utterly mature today, in fact I'm being the pinnacle of all that is mature!

Welcome aboard the Pink Ship Hornblower, known far and wide for its sparkly ghei loving.

Today we find Archie writing in his diary, Archie often writes in his diary about all the wonderful times he and Hornblower have shared.

For Example:
(Mr. Midshipman Hornblower; The Man Who Felt Queer.)
Midshipman Hornblower was walking the lee side of the quarter-deck, as became his lowly station as the junior officer of the watch, in the afternoon, when Midshipman Kennedy approached him. Kennedy took off his hat with a flourish and bowed low as his dancing master had once taught him, left foot advanced, hat down by his right knee. Hornblower entered into the spirit of the game, laid his hat against his stomach, and bent himself in the middle three times in quick succession. Thanks to his physical awkwardness he could parody ceremonial solemnity almost without trying.
"Most grave and reverend signor," said Kennedy. "I bear the compliments of Captain Sir Ed'ard Pellew, who humbly solicits Your Gravity's attendance at dinner at eight bells in the afternoon watch."
"My respects to Sir Edward," replied Hornblower, bowing to his knees at the mention of the name, "and I shall condescend to make a brief appearance."
Both hats flourished with even greater elaboration than before…

Though some days Archie is content to just admire his dear friend in person.

The lieutenants proudly watch over the ship's crew. Though the crew aren't nearly as pretty, they are all very hard working and loyal. Horatio and Archie appreciate their efforts and will be sending them all Christmas cards this year.

And as the Pink Ship Hornblower sails off into the also quite pink sunset, we lift our hats in salute and wish Speep to shut the hell up.

Now, for some Duchess and the Devil fun!

I love the extras in Hornblower. Next time I have frees to waste and a school computer to use, I'll collect screen caps of Big Ears!Legolas, Male!Girl with Pearl Earing and man who was quite bored until he was shot.
