COPD is the hidden epidemic. But it has gone underdiagnosed, underfunded, and undertreated. Let's get the word out!
Stop the stigma around COPD, everyone deserves good care.
COPD has an enormous impact on the lives of millions of people. I want to speak up for those with COPD and their loved ones, in order to spread more awareness about this pervasive but overlooked condition.
I cannot imagine what it must feel like to go through something so painful and life-threatening with no assurance that someone has your back, we in the name of humanity and global medical care must raise our voices for the patients of COPD
I recently became aware of this disease. It’s heartbreaking. Let’s lend our voices to make this campaign a success
There should be extensive technology based campaigning to ensure the COPD disease effects are communicated and treated.
Copd and Pollution/Climate change are related issues. Work on one will help the other.
I have the diagnosis too!
COPD People should be taken care with the same treatment that other people get.
I have pledged my support to speak up for COPD to get people with COPD the care they deserve
The third largest killer in the world is underdiagnosed and undertreated. It is time to act now and remove COPD as a leading cause of death.
People who are experiencing COPD should be given attention, and care! Do not let them die. We should care for them. It doesn't matter the gender, the age, and their personality. Help them now!
Anyone can get COPD at any age. It's doesn't only affect older people and smokers. COPD is being breathless 24/7. It's hard and you will need support. Speak up. Stay healthy. Take care.
We need to begin with knowledge and public awareness of COPD and the need to seek medical attention.
We shouldn’t forget what happens with COPD patients!
Preventing the development or worsening of chronic diseases besides saving lives actually saves money for tax payers so I don’t see why government don’t have national plans! 10% of the world affected!
I fully support this excellent campaign.
COPD is such an overlooked disease, the one which nobody looks at, and yet it devastates the lives of those afflicted. We must help the unfortunate victims of this terrible disease and provide adequate healthcare services. There are things that can be done to help people recover, and they must be done. I speak up for COPD!
As a Medical Clinical Officer, I know how painful it can be for people suffering from COPD. I do advocate for increased support for COPD patients. Thanks.
The world has never been more aware of lung health. Now must be the moment to make COPD a public health priority.
We all need to speak up for COPD
My grandfather, who I adored, had COPD and watching him go through it made a huge difference to me. Patients should get the support they need to manage their COPD without needing a trip to A&E or a stay in hospital!
Debbie Roots - Cardiorespiratory Nurse Consultant
As a COPD specialist and scientist, I want to speak up for my patients, who experience a tremendous daily burden of disease although most of them do not look very ill from the outside. We must support them with the best available treatments and innovative research to improve their health and reduce their future risk.
Prof. Dr. Frits Franssen
I have spent 20 years taking care of patients with lung conditions and what has struck me is how little attention COPD receives, especially compared to other conditions. Chronic respiratory diseases are poorly recognised and poorly understood. It’s time we changed that by speaking up for those with COPD.
MeiLan Han, Associate Professor, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
I have been working as a clinical and academic pulmonologist for almost 40 years and am still frustrated by the limited funding COPD care and research receives. This lack of resources contributes to inequalities around the world for pulmonary services and access for our patients. By speaking up about these inequalities in care availability and delivery we can change how COPD is prioritized within health agendas worldwide and improve access for the global COPD community.
Prof. Fernando Martinez, Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine
COPD needs to be a public health priority. It is the third leading cause of death, but no one talks about it. We know that when Governments prioritise action on health issues, positive change follows. This is so needed for patients with COPD and we need to speak up for those patients to see that change happen.
Tonya Winders, Global Allergies & Airways Patient Platform
I pledge my support to raise awareness of COPD to policymakers and influencers
I speak up for COPD to make sure it gets prioritised by policymakers. Making COPD a priority is necessary to drive changes in the standard of care patients receive. Especially in the time of COVID, policymakers should be considering strategies which minimise the use of emergency care by improving access to evidence-based treatments.
John Hurst, Professor of Respiratory Medicine
It is absolutely critical that we prioritise COPD.
COPD is the third leading cause of death and is one of the major causes of disability. Up to 10% of adults suffer from COPD and early diagnosis is still a challenge. Speak up for COPD.
Marc Miravitlles, Respiratory Medicine Specialist
COPD patients are underdiagnosed, suboptimally managed and at risk of exacerbations, hospital admissions and premature death from cardio-pulmonary causes. My pledge is to collaborate closely with our internal partners at Astrazeneca & key external stakeholders and join efforts in order to implement initiatives at every single step of the patient journey, that will help tackle the clinical & economic burden of COPD with an ambition to reduce health inequalities & improve outcomes.
My uncle died of COPD in the summer, he suffered for years and it was horrible to see him struggling. I am Speaking Up for him
We as COPD patients deserve better. We deserve better treatment and easier access to healthcare and check ups. We deserve to be seen and heard.
People living with COPD deserve to be heard - I'm raising my voice to help make COPD a priority!
Now more than ever, we all need to speak up for COPD and do what we can to support better outcomes for those suffering from COPD. I speak up for COPD and the family, friends, coworkers, and the many others suffering from this terrible illness.
COPD is the third leading cause of death worldwide - it should be a public health priority. I pledge my support for Speak Up for COPD
Members of my family suffer from COPD but no one ever seems to think of it as anything that's important in the grand scheme of things. We need to raise awareness as this is such an impactful, terrible condition.
People need to speak up about this to help improve the quality of life for those who have copd.
Highly supporting your work
I pledge my support for the millions living with COPD and loving people with COPD. We must prioritize and destigmatize this disease to drive earlier access to management and treatment and reduce COPD as a leading cause of death.
I pledge to learn more about COPD and educate myself and family about how frequent it really is
I am speaking up for COPD on behalf of my Dad who bravely fought the disease for many years. He often felt that he didn't have a voice, or in fact that he didn't deserve to be heard, even when I could speak for him. We need to do more to reach out and really listen to people with COPD, diagnosing and treating them earlier so they have the best chance of living their best lives for as long as they can. RIP Dad - I miss you loads....
Trying to live in a constant state of breathlessness is unacceptable. Most people don't realize how much COPD can take from a person and the people around them. And we can do a lot more about it! We ALL have at least one person around us that suffers from COPD - if we all help, we really can make a difference.
People are not made aware of COPD and more needs to be done and access to healthcare and be prioritised doctors need to be more aware of this condition and more specialists in every country and more research. Do the numbers have to be out of control even more then they are now before more is done we have an opportunity now to raise awareness let’s get this done. Every voice matters and every life.
I am committed to ensure people living with COPD get the care and treatments they deserve. Every breath matters!
I will work to ensure that the general public is more aware of COPD as a condition and that patients get the help and support they need.
COPD is a devastating and under-prioritized disease that deserves and needs much more attention across the spectrum. The time is now -- patients are waiting!
How many more lives need to be lost before COPD gets the funding and out of control. Speak now as this will only get worse in time people are currently suffering and with funding for the research how is this going to improve going forward. People are seeking now we need to listen and take action.
I speak up for all those affected, to never stop pushing to improve support and access to care!
I Speak Up for COPD!!! ALL COPD patients should be afforded access to the interventions that have been shown to improve quality of life, reduce flares and improve survival. These are available and easily implementable. The time has come for policy makers around the world to invest in the care of these patients!!
Mohit Bhutani MD, FRCPC, FCCP

I support that with my voice!
I speak up for my dad who has had 2 exacerbation requiring hospitalization.
Patients with COPD need the attention they deserve. We must make COPD a priority and I pledge to do my job to help this cause for patients who deserve better outcomes!
I fully support this excellent campaign
I speak up for COPD today because I watched my aunt suffer from COPD for years before she was finally diagnosed. Even following a diagnosis, her COPD journey felt relatively unknown or unclear - regardless of when she was at home with family or following an admission to hospital. She died about 5 years ago now, and I know she'd want others to have a better experience of living with this disease.
It is devastating to think that a condition which affects so many people gets so little attention. I really hope that this campaign shows the realities of living with COPD to those people with the power to change how the condition is prioritised and treated.
I had no idea how prevelant COPD was, I actually didn't know about it at all. More should be done to bring this to the public's attention, especially in light of the COVID pandemic
COPD death is equally important as any death in the World! We shouldn't ignore it.
COPD is absolutely a public health priority for everyone.
I urge all people to consult their physician about the risk factors of COPD which helps in early diagnosis and management.
All stakeholders, WHO, Federal ministry of health, etc should as a matter of urgency, place priority on COPD in view of the the fact that the number of the patients that are suffering from it is alarming. It becomes imperative for the medical practitioners to conduct research, so that the drugs that can be used to treat/ cure the disease will be developed.
We must support COPD Patients with the best available treatments and innovative research to improve their health and reduce their future risk.
I am 31 year old and suffering from COPD severely. I have been suffering from this disease since 2014. We need to make people aware of this disease and make governments spread awareness.
I’m speaking up for COPD - we need early diagnose of this disease. I'm suffering from childhood and now I'm 39+. It is difficult to lead normal life.
US and Canada are again much more ahead with COPD/emphysema care, concern and support, while Europe is no where in that matter.
People need to be made aware how debilitating this disease can be. The cost for inhalers are astronomical. We can no longer afford the prescription. There was a cap established for asthma inhalers, COPD should have been included.
I want to educate and learn and become an ambassador in Africa for COPD patients and how it touched my family.
I recently lost my Dad. I saw how he struggled with COPD for over a decade.
I am SPEAKING UP for COPD on behalf of my father, Rayford Sheppard. He fought long and hard against this disease but succumbed in October 2023. My hope is that by lending my voice and bringing awareness to this disease, those who are living with COPD can have a better quality of life, and a cure can be found through research.
My beloved Mom died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) a decade ago, and I still miss her so. How I hope the COPD Foundation would find a cure to save the lives of the respiratory disease patients to save them from harm pain and suffering in the future. Joining the Lend My Voice Advocacy Campaign to help spread the word about the COPD Foundation Programs. Please Keep up the Good Work & All the Best!
I lend my voice because it's needed to bring it under everybody's attention and let people be aware of this invisible disease that causes dead
Please act on COPD earlier and protect people
As a son of a COPD patient that had the privilege to get education on how to better manage their condition and how that improved our whole family quality of life I request governments to invest resources to empower all COPD patients worldwide to get their treatment and condition under control to be a productive member of society.
I have severe COPD and one of the Arizona State Captains for the COPD FOUNDATION. I posted my voice on my LinkedIn website.
