He often felt that he didn't have a voice, or in fact that he didn't deserve to be heard, even when I could speak for him. We need to do more to reach out and really listen to people with COPD, diagnosing and treating them earlier so they have the best chance of living their best lives for as long as they can. I speak up for COPD today because I watched my aunt suffer from COPD for years before she was finally diagnosed. Even following a diagnosis, her COPD journey felt relatively unknown or unclear - regardless of when she was at home with family or following an admission to hospital. She died about 5 years ago now, and I know she'd want others to have a better experience of living with this disease.

It is devastating to think that a condition which affects so many people gets so little attention. I really hope that this campaign shows the realities of living with COPD to those people with the power to change how the condition is prioritised and treated.
