Since I'm from Germany and my English is far beyond good enough I can't write any fanfics for space wrapped. But I wanted to thank you guys for keeping up the community and for sharing all your amazing McKirk fanfics, arts and stuff. I always loved coming back here. :)

Hey there, everyone! I know it's the dog days of summer and what, you're supposed to think about writing holiday fic or drawing Jim & Bones frolicking in the snow? Or making up a playlist of holiday music? Or think, "Holy crap, the holidays!" Yeah, that's where I am.

It's our 10th freakin' year!! TEN YEARS!! That's like an eternity in fandom, right? And since the comm is kinda dead, weepingnaiad and I are thinking this is it. We're done, and ready to shut up shop. Unless y'all don't want to.

But here's the deal: last year we had only one fic. ONE. And it was a good one, but still. It's indicative of the malaise that has settled over the Jim/Bones ship. Hey, it happens. Ideas dry up; you've moved on to other fandoms; you're just not passionate about our boys. We all get to that point. [My problem is I don't have a new fandom, so I'm still here. But this isn't about me...] So this will be our final fest.

We've always been a low-fuss fest, and we'll go out on that philosophy. We're going to get even more relaxed:
*Please sign up in comments, just a statement of interest in doing something for Space Wrapped.
*Do whatever you'd like: write, draw, playlist, video, etc.
*During the month of December, post whenever you want.

That's it! Just let us know. And my solemn promise is that I'm gonna post this year. Yes, I am.

Ah, mon cheries, this year wasn't exactly our best in terms of postings. Perhaps, like me, you too were feeling especially stressed out and tired and unimaginative and unmotivated to create. But again, perhaps, like me, you too are a couple of thousand words into a fic, or most of the way through creating a playlist, or have an outline drawing that you couldn't get colored due to other commitments.

That's okay.

So if you, like me, wish to continue your efforts, we welcome your postings any time. ANY TIME.

UGH! I AM THE WORST

I am the WORST fest mod ever.

Or the most laid-back. You choose.

So it's November 1. I hope y'all are making better progress on your Space Wrapped fics than I am. Which is to say NO PROGRESS at all. However, I am a member of ushobwri on DW which is a kick-yer-arse writers' community. Gentle encouragement, especially during November which is National Novel Writing Month. ushobwri is more about getting you to write 10 minutes a day, on whatever you want to write, be it on a fic, a novel, a school essay/research paper, a LJ/DW entry, emails at work, etc. There is some accountability. I'm taking it seriously this year and will post a journal entry most days and try to write on the fic every day for at least 10 minutes.

Doable? Maybe for you. *sigh*

Okay, so let's talk turkey: On November 15 I will post the posting schedule for December. By then you should have at least an inkling as to how it's going. Pick your day, and write like hell for that day. All right?

I am standing in my kitchen, sweating like the proverbial targ and that's with the A/C on. It's August, and the last thing on my mind is the holidays. I mean, the season doesn't start until November (yes, the holidays begin with the American Thanksgiving--so sue me), and school hasn't even started yet.

But the time is NOW to begin planning the end-of-year writing season, and that means.......
SPACE WRAPPED!!!!!
*cue angelic chorus*

Okay, that was too much. But yes, Space Wrapped is back for its 9th year!!! How awesome is that?? Pretty damn awesome because of YOU, you fabulous McKirk/Jim&Bones people, with your wonderful stories and amazing art and lovely musical mixes. It just wouldn't be the holiday without your creative contributions that bring to life our lovely boys.

So, rules. Gotta have 'em. Or, not.
*We are a low-fuss, no-muss affair.
*You write/art/mix. Pick a day to post.
*If you don't finish on your day, that's okay. We know life gets totally nuts at the holidays, and if everything conspires against you to finish, it's okay. No guilt. No nasty emails from us in the middle of the night.
*If you know you aren't going to finish, just let us know.

Len didn't answer immediately. He was too busy studying the hologram that Jocelyn had sent up earlier in the morning. A week ago, Joanna had her school's winter concert. It was a little painful to watch since all of the kids were in elementary school and obviously didn't carry a tune for shit or have too much coordination in the band. He and Jim had skipped through all of the parts until Jo's grade come up. The chorus was up first, and even though his daughter wasn't part of it, they pushed through and watched it anyway. Len never knew that a rendition of 'O Tannenbaum' could be so painful.

Once the band came on screen, Len straightened up in attention. He wanted to lean in close to the hologram, but didn't because he knew Jim would make fun of him since Len bugged the crew never to do that.

But there was his little girl. Her curls cascading down her back and a red ribbon pinned to the side of her hair. Jocelyn had dressed her in white tights, nice black shoes, and a velvet looking green dress.

Jo had a solo for the song 'Silent Night'. His girl was first chair and had impeccable posture as she made her violin sing. Her eyes were shut tight. It was clear that Jo was lost in the music.

Jim squeezed his hand, taking Len back to the present. The quilt on their bed covered their legs and kept them both warm. Below the cover Jim nudged at his feet. "Cute, right?" He wore a proud smile.

Len leaned over and kissed Jim's cheek. "Perfect."

Prompt: I forget the exact wording, but the basic idea is that Jim and Bones lack gift-wrapping skills.
Summary: Jim has a plan, her dad has no clue, and Joanna knows twice as much as they do. Starting with the fact that her dad and Jim are so in love that they can't make heads or tails of the wrapping paper and the tape dispenser Nana has on hand. They're too busy making eyes at each other. Unbelievable. They can run a ship together, but wrapping gifts? That's another story. Still, Joanna will always say it was a good thing she'd stepped up to help them. And, with a shared affection in their eyes, they will always agree.
Notes: I'm obviously partial to long summaries! Writing a fic that is mostly fluff is totally new for me, but it has been a nice change. I had to restrain myself from adding angst. Several times. :D Split into two parts, b/c the story got away from me.

This story is loosely based on my WIP, And if I Stand Next to You, but it's not necessary to be reading that story to understand this one. I promise. I hope you enjoy the read. Small spoiler, that's not really a spoiler because you find out from the get-go: this fic is about making a certain kind of commitment. ;)

Summary: Jim & Leo make it back to Starbase 5 where Joanna and her family are settled. It’s the first visit after the births of David Kirk-McCoy and Joanna’s daughter, Leah.
Notes: Many thanks to my brain twin weepingnaiad for the super-fast beta job. Any remaining mistakes are mine alone. It’s my fault there’s a distinct lack of smut. *smut-fail*

Though set in The Shotgun Proposal ‘verse, you do not have to read those stories to understand this. The short summary: Jim & Bones are nearing the end of their active mission careers; their son, David, was conceived after an encounter with an alien culture and born on Christmas Day, the same day as Bones’s granddaughter; it’s five years later.

Did ya ever think to yourself, "Self, I wanna write a fic for space_wrapped but I just know what I wanna. Have you ever had enough time to sit put together brain and go to the computer wanting to create a graphic for space_wrapped but just didn't have a clue what to do, so that the blank screen just sits there and mocks you?

Yeah. Me, too. Except it happens on a daily basis.

So let's help each other out. In comments, leave a prompt. A prompt can be a word or a couple of words, a brief sentence or two. Just enough to create a buzz in the brain, enough to tickle a fancy. (Beyond that and it becomes a full-blown idea and you should take it up and run with it yourself.) Give us something to get the creative juices flowing so that someone can look up from the blank screen and go, "OMG! That's it!!!"

It's the weekend, and I'm sure you all have copious free time. Write down some prompts and maybe you'll even get inspired.

We'll take 'em until September 28. I'll compile them into one post and y'all can peruse them at your leisure.

Announcing the 2016 Fest!

Well, once again, we are a day late and more than a few credits short, but there will be a 2016 Space Wrapped Holiday Fest!!!!

As it has been in the past, this is your low-stress holiday fest:

* You aren't writing for anyone except yourself (well, except for everyone who reads it. But you're not assigned to anyone)
* You aren't even require to post, though we really really really want you to.
* If life around you implodes, as life does during the holidays, we don't come after you in the night with a pitchfork.

Here are the details:

--From now until September 20, think about if you want to participate. Leave us a comment so we know someone out there is interested.
--Starting in the next few days, we'll throw up a post for PROMPTS. Yeah, we haven't done them for a few years, but we figure y'all might want some inspiration. We'll take prompts until September 28.
--One of us will compile the prompts, and y'all can claim them. We don't care if 10 of you write or art the same prompt, because frankly, that'll be 10 different pieces.
--Starting September 20 you will sign up for a posting date (depending on how many of y'all leave us some sort of sign you're interested), which will be mid-December to January 1. We'll close the posting time on October 1.

That gives you about 2.5 months to create!!!

Fic search + icons

I hope it is okay if I post this here. Wasn't sure where else to post. If it is not okay, mods you can take it down.

First, I just want icons of Jim and Bones. Not sure where any are. Help?

~~I am in search for two different Bones/Jim fics. I think they were written by the same person. Username might have started with I.~~

In one, for some reason, maybe diplomats are coming to visit or something, but Jim proposes that he and Bones be in a fake relationship. I remember there was a scene at the cafeteria. I think Spock was skeptical of the true nature of their relationship. I think they fake came out to the crew. I know it isn't much to go on.

The second one was set pre first movie. Jim and Bones are still students. I think it started out with Bones seeing Jim having sex with a girl in the bathroom of a bar. Jim has a motorcycle he calls Jess or Jesse. They make out and have sex on the bike. Lots of sexual tension. I seem to remember had a sequel too about them navigating their way through their relationship.

I think one of the fics had a public sex scene at a gym. Kirk had been helping Chekhov with skills when Bones comes in. They end up having sex on the gym mat. I think Bones freaked out about it afterwards.
