Luxembourg, a growing hub for space companies
Luxembourg has established itself as a major hub for companies in the space sector since entering the industry back in 1985 with the launch of SES (Société Européenne des Sattelites). Over the past decade, its space ecosystem went from just 16 companies employing around 600 people in 2012 to 80 space-related companies with a workforce of approximately 1,650 people by 2024.
It is an outstanding growth resulting from strong government support through funding initiatives and a pioneering legal framework, unique in Europe, providing favourable conditions to attract international talent and investment.
What is the role of the space industry in Luxembourg?
The space industry in Luxembourg impacts our everyday life and drives the country's economic growth as well as its global standing.
Its thriving space ecosystem stimulates employment and innovation across different industries such as communications, transport, and healthcare, contributing tremendously to a better quality of life for the population. Additionally, space capabilities support climate action by providing essential data for environmental protection and resource management.
This economic diversification attracts international talent and investment, enriching Luxembourg's expertise and creating opportunities for future generations.
