№8: Best Summer Skin Prep, Barely There Makeup, and Being an Essentialist
The weeks obsessions.
Welcome back to another week of Substance Saves.
This week the theme is really simple: it’s the week of replenishments.
When all the products I’ve been using have all gone out at the same exact time and it seems like everything needs to be replaced at all one time.
So, here’s what I replaced in my shower, skincare and makeup bag.

I am obsessed with body care. I am a minimalist (or essentialist) when it comes to basically everything in life so when it comes to body scrubs, body washes, and body oil–I wanted all of them to be from the same brand. And, that’s exactly what I purchased. The result–my body is squeaky clean, smells delicious, feels moisturized and I’ve never been happier. The best $177 dollars spent in my life. Felt really over the top during the checkout at Ulta but everyday getting out of the shower and feeling the way I do makes it all worth every penny. For those days when I have a little bit more time, I like to dry brush as well. Especially as we enter the summer seasons, I feel like I am exfoliating and moisturizing a lot more than usual and as someone who has really dry skin, these products have been game changer. I’ve also been using this on the soles of my feet to help with dry and rough heels with wearing sandals and being barefoot a lot around the house.

I am obsessed with skincare. There’s something so easy when you’re able to just buy all the same skincare from one brand. It takes all the guessing out of the line up and as a result, my skin has been super clean, clear, and bright. Here’s everything I am using–and full disclosure it’s a lot of products but I alternate what I use each day and adjust to what I feel my skin needs on any given day. My skin (as mentioned above) runs more on the dryer side and I am 37 years old with no botox or filler (despite it going against practically everyone in my generation) as I refuse to do anything to my skin that I would regret in the future. And, with my luck (or lack there of) my body would be allergic to it or it would reject it or I would look botched. And, I’m just not interesting in taking that risk. Plus, I saw how beautiful my step-grandmother aged and I inspire to be more and more like her as I age gracefully and naturally. I first start with taking off my makeup with this, then cleansing my skin, serum, light moisturizer, and call it a day. In the morning I exfoliate using this, serum again, essence hydration, moisturizer and sunscreen. Yes, I double up with moisturizer and I am glowing like no other. I love it. And, the best part–it doesn’t break the bank, and I have my boyfriend who has eczema and sensitive skin on this bundle and he’s loving it too. I do want to try this in the future. Has anyone tried it? Tell me in the comments.

I am obsessed with makeup. Did you know I was a makeup artist for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics when I was in college? I learned that the makeup is only as good as the skincare (hence the obsession with the products above) and also the philosophy that makeup is there to enhance one’s natural beauty. It’s the Bobbi Brown philosophy. I still live that today so while I have only a handful of makeup items–they all serve a purpose and these are the ones I’ve most recently added to my makeup bag. This overliner lip liner, lip ciggy, brow gel, bronzer (because the other one got destroyed on a recent trip home to MD) and this bb cream (I bought 3 because they were on sale and I am praying they are not getting rid of this formulation. Honestly, my favorite is the brow gel because it looks like I got my brows laminated but it’s been well over 4 months so cheers to this product for being the shining hero this replenishment run. I apply the bronzer with this brush all over my cheeks, forehead and eyelids and that’s basically all the makeup I wear with a touch of brown mascara and a lip. It’s the perfect summer look and I’ll be wearing it all the time.

That’s everything for the week.
I have more things in the mail–so I’ll be sure to share more on those products next week. Everything from another Cymbiotika Supplement to Business & Pleasure Umbrella Base to New Balance sneakers in brown!
PS. Substance Sessions are now available for booking. The 1-year partnerships are now underway for aligned brands. And, I am still writing the dream book.
Keep going my friends.

Well, now I must get all the Osea body products! I’ve been really wanting to try Prequel, but haven’t been able to find it in Canada. I’ll have to stock up on my next trip south. I’m with you on not doing Botox. Im one of the few of my friends who hasn’t done it, but I just have too many reservations, and really want to age gracefully and embrace all that comes with that. Some days it’s easy, some days less so. But good skincare definitely helps. Always love your product suggestions. Thanks for sharing them!
osea is my holy grail! also, i’ve never done any work on my face either :)
