Soli

Small dark nose, big whiskers, green eyes with slitted pupils that in darkness expand to pitiless voids that reflect the haunted light of another world... Soli appears to be a cat. If you really know your cats you might recognise them as an Andean mountain cat; a wildcat that looks like a cross between a snow leopard and an especially fuzzy domestic grey tabby, with deep brown markings that range from splotchy rosettes to broad stripes on their long thick tail. Soli's demeanour is typically feline, too: aloof, mercurial, wary around new faces, affectionate on their own terms, monomaniacally murderous to laser pointers.

A second glance might raise more questions. Soli's preternaturally feline, like whoever made them picked from the sum of cat lore without regard to whether it was science, folklore, or fantasy. It's not obvious what their gender is, or even whether they're bipedal or quadrupedal. Soli PROBABLY doesn't steal milk for witches (get it yourselves, witches), or the souls from children (ew), but they can very much be on the wrong side of ANY door, and luck might act a little fuckily if they cross your path.

It's not clear whether Soli was created and left here with some plan in mind, or just dumped for being a bloody nuisance. If there is a plan, it mostly seems to involve wandering around and sleeping on things. Perhaps the oddest thing about all this is that it all adds up to Soli being like most cats: a strange, fuzzy little alien who's attracted to noises in kitchens and occasionally terrorises the local wildlife.

Soli is extremely fluffy, cute, and has an unreasonably long tail. This image was drawn by the artist who goes by Kyukes

This portrait of Soli by Kaput shows him with a calm, confident bearing. His eyes meet the viewer's, and his lips are quirked into a very slight smile, though not enough to suggest arrogance. The subject's position in the bottom right of the composition reinforces this, as though he were not the whole focus of the portrait. The background is an intense wash of lemon yellow and orange, while the soft shadow that provides depth has a distinct green hue.

Sex & gender

I'm intersex by birth, and non-binary by gender identity. Both are pretty broad terms, which suits me just fine.

Personal pronouns
“He” or singular “they” are both fine; I can feel awkward about any pronouns 😸. Use whatever you're comfortable with, just don't be a dick about it.
Preferences
Perhaps unsurprisingly, what's between my partners' legs doesn't really matter to me. Call that what you like: queer, bisexual, pansexual.
Salem captured my good side in this commission of Soli's grinning face peeking out from the hood of a pale blue unicorn kigu.

This spectacular photo of an incredibly rare andean cat was taken by Cristian Sepúlveda. The cat is looking off to the side as it climbs down from a rocky perch, its attention perhaps drawn to a sound or movement to the right of the camera. Behind it lay the snow-capped peaks of the vast Andes mountain range.

Andean mountain cats are fluffy, adorably grumpy-looking wildcats, around the same size as the domestic Maine Coon cat. Their markings start as a paler rust colour in kittens, and darken as they reach adulthood. Their faces have short white muzzles, black or brown noses and two distinctive eye stripes.

Andean cats are exceptionally rare, with only a handful of recorded sightings in the last 25 years. There are currently none in captivity. Read about and support the andean cat alliance.
