Veera Nova and Victor Ainz.....
Artwork done by MyLoveless (https://www.furaffinity.net/user/myloveless/)
Rumor has it that some crocodiles can live forever, lurking beneath swamp waters and stalking their prey until time to strike. There’s a sense of invincibility being part of one of the oldest known species to walk the Earth. Even so, the strongest of warriors still have a weakness, and Victor learned firsthand.
Over a stiff drink, he might even give you the full story, adding in the gruesome details, but it’s not something he cares to relive often. Victor’s life began many years ago, back when they measured the movement of time in passing seasons and moon phases instead of years. He was born and raised in a small village, exclusively of the croc species, and destined to take his father’s place as the village’s protector, like many generations before him.
When his father suddenly fell ill, Victor wasted no time in trying to find a cure. His uncle told him of a rumor, one generated by the many traders and travelers that dared venture into the croc domain. Supposedly, there was a demon who lived in the dark forest just two days travel from their home. Victor’s uncle said the demon had been known to grant favors in exchange for goods of great value, which was a purposeful exaggeration of the truth. The demon had been rumored to only grant one favor, and the scarred individual had returned with tales of bodies and deep, yellow eyes.
Victor made the journey into the demon’s territory, and needless to say, it was a very, very interesting encounter, but Victor was never one to kiss and tell. The demoness took a liking to him and gave him what he desired with a promise to one day return the favor.
He traveled home with a vial, one promised to heal his father fully, but he was never supposed to return at all. Once Victor set foot back into his village, his uncle became enraged. He was certain he had sent the young croc to his death, a gruesome one at that. Victor was challenged by his uncle, a tradition among the village as old as the swamp they lived in, but in the heat of the fight, Victor’s uncle pulled a weapon from his boot, injecting the young croc with the same poison used on his father, only this time…a lethal dose.
VIctor’s uncle had wanted the chief to appear to fall ill and die slowly, relieving him of all accusations of foul play, and as Victor’s heart gave a final thud, his uncle cheered in victory. Some of the village was horrified, others rallied behind the uncle, wanting a chief that would allow bloodshed and domination for more territory.
As the uncle moved to make the final strike against the chief, Victor’s eyes opened once more, a dark and insatiable anger fueling his heart to beat again, and a shadow perched nearby, her vibrant yellow eyes and soft blue glow illuminating the night. What followed was more than gruesome, and Victor stops himself there. The rage that overpowered him was something only a croc could understand, but his father was alive and that was enough.
Victor never looked back after that night, following the demoness through time and even planes, his favor for his father’s life repaid with his own, giving his life in service to the demoness’s desires.
