Now, for those who haven't read the book...........
Lydia is, for want of a better term a 'rudderless ship'. Living for years in an unfulfilling marriage, raising teens, and never having had an orgasm, she was blown away with emotion when a drunken Colleen hits on her. She is too trusting and naïve to see that Colleen can be very free sexually, and sleeping with her has little more meaning than that Colleen felt like it at that moment in time. Lydia, on the other hand hungers for a deep committed emotional relationship with.......someone. As time goes by, Lydia has become more demanding of her sexual needs, and Colleen has developed a deeper emotional connection to her.
Plus both are smitten with Sean.
Go figure.......

Sorry I haven't read the book but this explain Lydia. Soon we'll know a bit more about Colleen.
