That was actually back when I had XP. It didn't slow my computer down that much at all really.. Quad Core 2.4Ghz Processor, 4GB of Memory... :) Although now I'm running Windows 7, so I have 3 hard drives in my computer, a brand new one for Win7, my older one that still has all my XP stuff on it, then my third drive is my secondary Data drive.
so how is windows 7 any way????
Windows 7 on the other hand, is absolutely awesome. I really like it. :) I tried vista for a week about a year or two ago and hated it, but 7 is good.
I won't even tell you how much free space I have left on all my drives... o_o
heh, my laptop is vista, but it has a centrino duo. with a 110GB hard drive and 33GB left. so far its surviving. but it wont install sp1. ni hope your computer and server dont constantly crap out on you.
and... the kicker is, i have at least 20 desk top towers, most fully loaded in my basement, but none are past win 98 and only 4 of them have a pentium to pentium 4. and i also have a server with dual pentium 3s and 3 hard drives, but their small, and, i cant get it to it. so yeah, i am surrounded by computers and none of them work.nntell me, i dont care how much it hurts, i wanna know, how much free space is left!!
my frustration never ends...
As far as your towers... Wow, You should donate some of them, or huck the really old ones out... :)
Free space total on Server: 576GB. x__x And on my desktop here, I have 618GB free.
Desktop Drives: 650GB WD, 320GB Seagate, 250GB Seagate
Server Drives: Dual 1TB Seagates, Dual 250GB Seagates (Each pair is running Raid 1 Software Mirror mode. If one fails, I don't loose anything that way.)
yeah, with the towers, im using them as training tools. trying to build a working one.
so you tossed all that together. by your self? or with help?
core i7 extreme's are damned expensive.
although, i do have one tower that shows some promise, its got a 75GB hard drive and a Pentium 4, with its own dedicated cooling duct, its running win 98. nim in such a bad spot because i just dont have the cash. and im never going to get the cash.
I don't plan on getting the i7... Gonna hold off for the i9 instead. Quad core with Hyperthreading = 8 CPU's... or the 6 Core with HTT = 12 Virtual CPU's. :) My current Q6600's will get me through.
well, i got a plan for getting out of my current desk top, i just need to consult my I.T. guy to make sure i can do it.
was it hard tossing all that together?n
The hard part is picking what you want to build it with... Figuring out what case will work best for how many drives you have, reading reviews to see which ones are the quietest... Figuring out which brand mobo you want to go with (be it Intel, Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, MSI, Its easy to get lost on what brand and what features you want) :) Then you have to match the right speed and type of memory... Yeah.
nPicking everything out and deciding = Frustrating/Semi-Hard
nBuilding it = Awesome, Easiest part as long as you know what you're doing or follow directions
nInstalling your OS/Applications = Time Consuming and boring.
All this knowledge doesn't just come out of nowhere... As a kid I used to pull open our very first computer that cost $3000 and poke around with a screwdriver. :P 3 repairs and $900 in parts later, I figured out what NOT to do inside there, and from there we got a second newer computer, and I started playing around from there. ^^ Its all good.
computers are a recent thing for me, as in i started tinkering with them when i got my fist computer, win 95 that i got in 2002. then took off when i got my real computer in 2004 which is the one my mom got in 2001, i took it over from her because she got a laptop.
i hear ya, all the stuff out today, its hard to find good quality equipment.
On mine though its not top of the line but I did upgrade some areas to get what I want.
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0GHz
4 GB Memory
320 GB 5400rpm Hard drive
17.3" HD widescreen display (1600x900)
512 MB Mobility Radeon HD 4530
Bluray drive double layer
wireless N card (does wonders at online gaming, even suprised me)
Also need to pick out a 2D/3D CAD program as well, Paint works great at making blue prints among other things but its just too time consuming to convert real life measurements to scale for paint (I typically use 12 dots as 1 foot).
Besides all that if you happen to know of any cheap ($100 or less) 2D/3D cad programs that can make mechanical as well as structural blueprints & 3D models let me know, all I keep finding are programs that can just do blueprints and building renderings but not mechanical rendering of parts.
Nice build, sounds like it should be perfectly fine for all-round use. :) As far as 2D/3D Programs... I'm not sure of any paid ones, although Blender is an open-source free app, check it out. Another 3D one is anim8or. :) Just Google them to find the sites.

I prefer to shop from www.ncix.com ... They ship via Canada Post, Purolator, and optionally UPS, but they have a lot of shipping deals 'Next Day Delivery for $10' with Purolator and such. :) I also pay $150 a year for their 'Premiere Partner' membership, and that basically means there's a 24/7 sale on everything. Anywhere from 5% - 40% off regular price. As a member, I cant disclose specific pricing, but if you ordered everything to build one computer, you'd EASILY make up the $150 for the membership in a single $1000 order.
On the topic of your computer, Pretty nice specs, though why aren't you running 64bit OS? :)
oh and my car just cost me another 200 bucks *facedesk* so life keeps getting in the way of "future" build ~le sigh
Didn't know that most of the stuff I get is over the .com site of TD O.o
NCIX is open to the public? Have to check 'em out, though most of my stuff has admittedly come from E-bay....lol; I tend to shop around a bit now-a-days.
O.O just noticed the Blotch background....sexy......
