I actually put this sketch together back in early November maybe even October. Whenever the stills from the upcoming season of Retsuko were shown off, and we got to see Haida's parents for the first time. My first thought was...well actually my first though was 'Damn, Haida's Mom's a milf.' But it was closely followed by, 'I wonder what Fenneko's parents might look like' as I am a Fennaida shipper.  So I took my best crack at coming up with the 'two halfs' that make the weird whole that is the Fenneko we all know and love.

Fenneko's Dad is the smallest member of the family, so much so that he's often confused with a kit while working as a police officer. The same 'err' in judgement falls to Haida when he confuses the fox for a little brother Fenneko never mentioned, and thus immediately starting their burgeoning relationship on terrible footing. That said, despite that slight set back, he's a masterful detective. His inquisitive mind and ability to piece elements of a case or profile together with a laser like focus and speed have made him a bit of a legend across multiple precincts. He's also generally sort of a strong silent type. A mammal of few words save for a biting remark followed by his usual deadpan monotoned laugh that leaves you wondering whether it was genuine or sarcastic in pretty much every case. When asked by his wife exactly what drew her to such a short, surly seeming mammal, her response is almost always..."He makes me laugh."

Fenneko's Mom is essentially the day to her husband's night. Lively, talkative, charismatic, and a bit of a shameless flirt, she is decidedly the extrovert of the family. Though despite all the flirting, she's very loyal to her husband. She just likes to tease, especially when it's a young man she can easily fluster. Fenneko's Mom is a baker by trade, and owns a small little shop that was passed down to her by her own mother. And while she initially wanted Fenneko to follow after her, now she just wants Fenneko to pursue something that isn't her little drab office job. It is actually one of the few points of contention her and her husband have with one another, as he pushed Fenneko into pursuing something 'stable' in the first place. But she believes her daughter was meant for greater things than simple paper pushing. While lacking her husbands sharpened forensic mind, Misses Fenn has a knack for getting into people's business and gossiping. Though usually she tries to use the information she gleans to help those involved, the results tend to be mixed at best. She also has a loud, boisterous laugh that seems to go on forever, one that's loud enough to draw complaints from the neighbors. Thankfully the fact her husband is a cop already tends to prevent anything from coming from said complaints.

Those are just some rough background ideas...Lemme know what you guys think, oh, and if you have decidedly Japanese names for them...I've got nothing right now.

P.S. Obviously this was put together before the final season came out, and despite the lackluster ending, I'm still shipping Fenn and Haida...deal with it.
