Despite his role in the animated series being extremely minor with only two episodes where he has a speaking role, Sky Beak holds a special place in my heart for reasons I doubt many viewers would expect.

I ended up looking up scenes from the episode of his debut so i could get a feel for his character. And his interactions with Terramar, however brief, told me all I needed to know about him. And said interactions with his son made me think something I have never once felt towards any fictional character regardless of medium.

"I wish this guy was my father."

Sky Beak, even as a minor character, has an ideal personality for a father figure and one I would dearly like to have in my own father. Any discussions James has about his family in The Lost Element are not exaggerated. I have had a strained relationship with my father for years now and I doubt it will ever change. Sky Beak is everything my father is not. Gentle, humble, and tender. And I wanted to have this underrated and underexposed character immortalized in what may be the single greatest defining moment of his character from The Lost Element.

Everyone deserves to have a good father. I just wish I had a better father.
