KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS
Before humans were a glimmer in the eye of evolution, there existed a group of 7 godly beings that had taken an interest in the physical realm. They focused their gaze upon a new world, young and hot, and found themselves drawn to it. They allowed it to form, breathed life upon this world they had favored and watched it grow, change, and flourish. In the blink of the eyes of beings so eternal, all manners of great and powerful beasts came and went.

The beings decided that their magically created forms were not enough and began to create physical bodies, evolved upon this world they had grown fond of so that they could experience it as their creations could. They selected a small, six-limbed reptile that could glide between trees and slither through underground tunnels, carefully selecting and guiding their evolution in the creation of these physical bodies to inhabit. Ultimately, over eons, they created nearly immortal bodies, immense serpents that dwarfed anything else on the planet. In doing so, from those that did not directly create the next generation of the bodies they intended, evolved the dragons and became the favored species of these beings.

At first, many kinds of dragons flourished, filling the world with their myriad of forms, but the eons dragged on and saw the rapid rise of a new creature, one that eventually became known as the Drawg. Species after species evolved, naturally designed in competition and predation, to hunt the chosen children of the world's gods until only a few species were left. The beings watched with great sorrow, but they allowed nature to take its course for all things in the world were their creations, even those they did not favor.

Just when it seemed to the Serpents that the Drawgs would wipe out the dragons, Du'un turned his eyes to the stars and soon a strange new species came from across the great expanse of space. They called themselves humans and sought a world to start anew. Arriving in ships from across the void, knowing this world was lush, they cultivated the land to do their bidding, and brought with them a sense of curiosity and a new way of existing.

At first, the Serpents watched with interest. They watched the humans struggle to survive in a world dominated by their favored creations and the many forms of Drawg. They watched as the humans discovered the dragons were different from the other beasts of the world, recognizing them as another social and intelligent creature that could think and reason. They watched when humans chose peace with the dragons rather than retaliation, and instead attempted to form friendships with any family groups of dragons that lived near their towns, even throwing celebrations and offering sacrifices.

By the fourth generation of pioneers, the twins Tolvar and Sandra Morthar successfully hatched and raised a pair of the powerful Royal dragons. While upon the backs of their mighty steeds, it was then that the Serpents made themselves known to the humans in a great spectacle known as Day of Deliverance. Seeing that the humans were mighty and clever enough to survive all that the planet had thrown at them and still willing to fight for what they thought was precious, the Serpents wished for their favored children to be precious to the humans. The twins were said to have cried out that the dragons were already precious to them, and that they wished for a way for humans to live in even greater peace with the gods children.

With those words, the Serpents spoke in their tongue that vibrated through the planet and time and even death, and thus the Bond of Spirit was created to protect both humans and dragons, melding the souls of both beings together, creating a silent hole in the spirit of each that could only be filled with the Bond. It was not required to be Bonded, but so powerful was the spell that all longed to know the intimacy of the connection, and the breaking of it was catastrophic.

To protect the dragons and maintain the Bond, the Serpents weaved their magic once again and bestowed the Power of Will to the Morthar twins, and the people dubbed them Dragon Tamers as no dragon could resist their will... and it soon turned out, neither could most people who were born on the planet. With merely a look, the Tamers could force weak minded men to do unspeakable acts, tear apart minds, and some kept harems of controlled women. This effect was even stronger for those Bonded. As their numbers rapidly grew and spread, some nations decided that Tamers were too powerful and should not be in control of humans because their Purpose- given to them by the Serpents along with a set of laws- was to control dragons and maintain the Bond.

Over the millennia, as humans expanded and created more nations, they evolved through several forms of government. The Tamers spread independently, though closely involved, and most nations had at least one family of Tamers.

It became immediately necessary for Tamers to need special protections as assassins, thieves and politicians were constantly hounding them. At first, select warriors voluntarily pledged their lives to be in service of Tamers and gained some power by the connection, becoming known as Guardians. When their Tamer was in danger, a Guardian could accomplish great feats that often became stuff of legend.

However, within only a few centuries, the Guardians began to desire the same power as their Tamers. In an attempt to ascend, a group of Guardians lured the Serpent of Fortune, Grelt, to her doom. Capturing her, they used powerful and alien magicks to draw out her life energies into a crystal that became known as the Tear of Grelt. It is said that in her final moment, she prayed that her kin would forgive the humans of their foolishness, her last breath felt as a shockwave across the planet that caused the dragons to weep.

Driven mad with grief, her mate, Du'un, demanded some form of revenge. With their power, the Serpents spoke their magic in anger, a day recorded as a great calamity, when the skin of the planet shuddered and threw all to their knees, the world wrapped in their celestial coils. The spell they spoke vibrated through the ages, creating a Purpose for Guardians they could not ignore, a curse upon their blood to forever obey their Oath, a curse that bound Guardians entirely to the Tamers so they no longer would have a choice but to obey Tamers completely and be incapable of causing harm to one like the dragons. This curse would pass on to every child born to a Guardian.

The Tear of Grelt was lost to time without ever knowing its true powers, being hidden away by a Guardian's wife whose name has been long forgotten. In their rage, the other Serpents withdrew from human company, not seen or heard from among the humans in enough generations for most to believe the world abandoned... save for one. It is said Du'un remained despite his grief to honor his mate's last wish, but others speculate that he is peering through realities, searching for his beloved.

So closely did the Serpents intertwine Tamers and Guardians that it changed the system that used to have Tamers awaken Tamers and made it so that only an unbound Guardian can awaken a young Tamer, becoming entirely theirs in a bond similar but less extreme to that with their dragons. A Guardian could live without their Tamer, but it would be a hollow life.

With this newfound and forced loyalty, the Tamers began commanding their Guardians to breed and create legions of soldiers loyal to a fault. The governments, threatened by this, began telling the people that everything they did that was unpopular was a decision forced upon them by the Tamers and their growing armies. Eventually, the anti-Tamer rhetoric incited riots all over the world and saw the sharp decline of Tamers as they were put to the blade, quickly turning from royalty to slaves of the people, some kept alive for the sole purpose of maintaining the Bond.

As the Tamers were killed, larger nations absorbed smaller ones, until the nations that kept their Tamers under lock and key became the ultimate rulers. Tamers became so rare that nations will go to war to acquire one. Many Tamers themselves have refused to reproduce under their chains, which led some nations to reinstating their royal status, but only on paper, with no direct interaction with the government.

Guardians without Tamers never truly find solace in ordinary life. Often left to live on whatever fortune their Tamers left for them, some try to live normal lives while others attempt to reach the last few Tamers, although each government has a different reaction to the idea of their Tamers amassing anything resembling an army, while others do not allow their Guardians to leave in case they acquire a stray Tamer.

Some Tamers, in fear for their lives, have found ways to escape the chains and live in isolation far from civilization. Others have had children in secret, raised without knowledge of their heritage. This has been a dangerous situation when enemy nations catch wind of unclaimed and unawakened Tamers, and with immense bounties to have them turned over, they are hunted and captured, if they are lucky. The Commoners are still taught to fear and hate Tamers and a few unlucky ones have been lost to enraged mobs.

Caught in the battle between Zaparow and Uldamir, the last and purest direct lineage of Sandra Morthar ended up dead in a fiery crash during a botched kidnapping attempt to force the smaller country to surrender. The body of his Guardian was never found. Rumored to have had an heir with a commoner, soldiers and bounty hunters alike scoured through towns and orphanages in the unsuccessful hunt.

Recently, threats of a new war have begun to simmer between three major nations, two of whom desire the third's Tamer. Academy has been on a secret mission to create an army unlike any seen on the planet before. Meanwhile, two lost souls are about to begin on a journey to change the outcome of battles they know nothing about.
