Gearbox, also occasionally known as Archive 412, is the result of highly unethical scientific experiements on using humans as data storage.
Found aboard a derelict space-station in the local asteroid belt, Gearbox is a very peppy (if unusual) man.
Raised completely alone by the onboard ship's AI, he has a very limited knowledge of the galaxy outside, and as a result can come off as very naive. This is because he is.

An absurdly talented engineer, Gearbox is well known for creating ramshackle contraptions out of various things just lying around, and upon his first meeting actually attacks the main cast thinking them monsters, having never before met someone intelligent what with having been grown up in a test tube during the few years the station remained active.

Very lean, Archive is not a strong man, relying on his machines and his prosthetic arm to do just about everything. He pulls along as the heavily-armoured glass canon of the group, with by far the highest amount of moddability on his craftframe, the Jolly Mess.
