KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

The Huntingtons are an eccentric bunch, a family consisting of wizards known far and wide for their accomplishments. The family lives in a mansion in the outskirts of the city, with a backyard facing towards the nearby forest.

Alduin Huntington feels that he is very lucky to be able to like this. Having the leader of the Magic Tower as his father, Grant, allows him to have private magic lessons allowing Alduin to learn to control his powers as well as develop new ones at a much earlier age compared to his friends at school. His mother, Teresa, is a well-known alchemist and tailor, making sure that her son will never have a shortage of clothing options that fit his huge frame and keeping Alduin cool in any weather as well as providing a variety of potions that ensures Alduin's health throughout the years. Well, it felt more like drinking vitamins, considering his nature. Alduin loves his adopted parents so much, he would never trade them for anything else in the world. He considers them as the "treasure" in his "cave," he chuckled at the thought.

.......................

The Huntington couple is not capable of bearing children, and they decided to adopt Alduin when they found him laying next to his mother during their hiking trip. The poor mother dragon had reached the end of her life earlier than expected, lamenting that she would be leaving her son in the wilderness. During her last breaths, she spotted the wizard couple nursing the two dragons with their magic and potions.

The dragon struggled, "Please, take care of my boy... A-alduin..."

The couple nodded, tears flowing from their eyes. "No, please! We can save both of you, just hold still..." Teresa cried, her hands trembling as she urged the dragon to drink the healing potion she crafted.

The dragon chuckled weakly, "No, I know it's time... Promise me... you will give him the love I could not share..."

Grant nodded grimly, "We promise. I wished we could have met earlier than this... We're sorry."

"Thank you... humans." The female dragon shed its last tears as she closed her eyes, falling into eternal slumber.

The couple gave the dragon a proper burial, and adopted Alduin. The young dragon opened his eyes and cried once he realized that he cannot sense his mother's mana anymore. Grant and Teresa hugged him and the three shared their emotions through their tears, sadness for such a huge loss as well as happiness for this new addition to the family.

......................

Living in the human world is quite tough for the dragon, but he got used to it. Alduin would get constant states due to his bright red scales and huge wings on his back, but no one was daring enough to confront him due to his tall, huge draconic frame.

Not that he can't defend himself. Alduin can breathe fire from his maw, and can easily tear apart his enemies with his sharp fangs. Of course, he doesn't use these perks to terrorize anybody either, he made sure that he would never harm people unless he's forced to. Hell, the most mischievous activities the dragon did so far were due to Alduin testing out his magic and accidentally causing minor issues on the bystanders.

He sighed, "It would be nice to not be feared most of the time." The professors and Grant's colleagues would talk to him from time to time, but Alduin knew that he had troubles getting along with them. The age differences made it difficult to find matching interests, and Alduin felt like he's talking to strict parents instead of friends. Well, at least there is one person that treated him, and that's the guy running towards him, waving. Alduin grinned and waves back, his tail wagging on the familiar sight.

"Hey dude!" Stanley said as he caught his breath. "We're still doing this camping trip tomorrow, right?"

Alduin nodded eagerly, "Yep, make sure to pack up properly for that, bud. Meet you up at the school entrance?"

"Sure thing! Man, I can't wait for this class to be over. The Potions professor can be a bit of a drag," Stanley muttered.

"Well, you're in luck! I heard that Mom will be acting as a guest lecturer today." Alduin grinned.

"Hell yeah!" Stanley cheered, and the two fist-bumped each other before they entered the classroom. .......................

Stanley was nervous during his first day in the Stilvestra Magic University. He was one of the candidates that year enrolled in the school for having magical capabilities even though his ancestors had no magical background whatsoever. The boy was frozen in place when he lifted up his birthday cake with his newborn powers a year before the enrollment, leading to a chaotic discussion between his family and the academy's representative. The shared excitement over the new presence of magic household ultimately won though, and everyone accepted the offer.

However, Stanley had doubts from time to time. What if he is a fluke? He still did not get how he lifted the cake. If he can't keep up with the rest... He entered his dorm room, deep in thought, not paying attention to his surroundings.

His thoughts halted suddenly as he bumped into something and fell. Stanley rubbed his nose from the pain, and saw a towering dragon right above him.

"D-d-d-dragon!?" He exclaimed, forgetting to stand up entirely.

Alduin was acting jittery. "Oh man, I'm so sorry! I didn't expect some company. Are you my roommate? Just give me a sec, let me grab some bandages. Are you hurt? Show me the wounds. Oh wait, never mind that. Here, take my hand, and let me pull you up."

Stanley laughed as he accepted the offer, making the dragon cock his head. "Sorry, sorry, just was not expecting a dragon as my roommate. I'm fine, really!"

Alduin frowned at this. "O-oh, uh, do you want me to switch rooms?"

"No, no, you're fine to stay! I got a feeling this year is going to be fun, and I laughed earlier because of how adorable you looked earlier during your panic." Stanley chuckled, and offered his hand once more. "My name's Stanley. You?"

Alduin's tail wagged over this. Strange human, but hell, he'll take it over the fearful faces. The dragon shook Stanley's hand, "Alduin. Nice to meet you, Stanley."

And little did they know at that point, Stanley's hunch was correct. The two can't stop talking to each other. They can go on and on about any topic, getting animated during the conversations. The two became close friends in a heartbeat, and they hung out a lot over the years.

The two would get curious glances from their colleagues due to the unexpected combination, but they don't care. The two continues to joke around the cafeteria regardless, and slowly, Alduin gets more and more friends due to this.

However, Alduin and Stanley remain a team regardless. The two would always pair up with each other on group assignments and practice sessions, and enjoy their food together whenever possible. During their free times, Stanley introduced the dragon on video game consoles, and the dragon would tell stories regarding the magic world from what he knew from his parents.

......................................

Teresa handed her magical camping equipment packed in a backpack to Alduin. "Stay safe, you two."

Alduin winked, "Sure, Mom. Relax, no one will harm us with this big dragon."

Stanley answered, "We will, Mrs. Huntington."

Teresa kissed them on the cheek, and waved as the two entered the forest. "Have fun, you two!"

..................

After discovering a perfect spot by the lake, Alduin starts gathering firewood and some fish by the river, while Stanley begins chanting the incantation to assemble the tent.

The lad was in awe. The tent's inside is massive, way bigger than the outside. Two double beds, a TV propped in the middle of the room, carpeted floor, a bathroom, and... air-conditioned walls. "So much for doing the authentic camping experience," Stanley chuckled.

Once Alduin returned, the two started their barbecue with the meat they bought beforehand, and cooking the fish Alduin got as well. The pair started devouring the meal with a variety of condiments gifted by Grant. The two hummed as they wrapped the grilled meat in lettuce leaves and garlic, while enjoying the sounds of chirping birds in the area.

Until one meat remains on the grill. Stanley wrapped it in a lettuce wrap, and felt the dragon's hand gripping his.

"I think I'll be doing the honors on this one, hmmm?" Alduin smirked.

Stanley pulled his hand, smirking back. "No, I think I'll do it for you."

The two decided to do a rock-paper-scissors, with Stanley using rock and Alduin using scissors. The dragon pouted as Stanley cheered, "My win, big guy. Now, let's savor the victo- Woah!" He was suddenly on the ground, still having a strong grip with the lettuce wrap.

Alduin decided to do another trick and pushed the human softly to the ground, making sure Stanley did not get hurt. "It's not a win until it's in the mouth!" The dragon opened his maw and glomped on the wrap, snatching it from Stanley's hand. "Yummm, delicious," he murmured.

Suddenly, time stopped. The two realized how close they are right now. The dragon forgot about the wrap in his mouth, and Stanley, in return, is also drowning on those beautiful eyes. After some time, the two awkwardly chuckled and moved away.

Stanley laughed to hide his blush, "You cheater! Fine, you win this time, but not for long. Man, you left a mark here too." He showed the bite mark on his hand.

Alduin instantly swallowed the wrap, and panicked. "Oh no no, I didn't mean to hurt you. Are you all right?"

Stanley chuckled, "Relax, big guy, I'm fine. See, no blood! Now, let's clean this up, shall we?" He started scratching at the bite mark.

Alduin remarked, "Nope, I'll do it for you, bud. After what I did, it's only fair."

Stanley laughed as the dragon moved with such speed, not giving him a window to help out. He chuckled at the view as he kept scratching at the bite mark.

..............

After cleaning up, the two laid down on the grass, stargazing. They took turns pointing out the stars and naming them, laughing in the process due to their crazy imaginations with the shapes the stars are making.

Alduin's brow furrowed though over the scratching sounds. "You OK, bud? You got a mosquito bite or something? Sounds rough."

Stanley chuckled, "No, no, it's just... The bite mark from earlier is itchy! Why is it so..." He paused, his eyes bulging as he saw his hand he instinctively raised, now easily visible with the moonlight.

Alduin stuttered, "S-scales!? Stan... What..." He went deep in though, didn't his dragon mother say something about this?

"Al, what is this...?" Stanley kept scratching, and he was in shock as he saw his skin peeling off even more, showing bright green scales under it.

Alduin came to a realization as he saw Stanley's eyes turning bright yellow with slits. "Oh, fuck! I-I didn't mean... Stanley, stay with me, it won't be long. I promise!"

"Y-you're scaring me. What... UNGH!"

Stanley crawled in all fours from the pain. He felt his teeth becoming longer, and his head felt... lighter. The transforming human lamented over the loss of his hair. His body felt itchy all over, and his skin slowly shedding revealing scales. The boy groaned as his muscles start bulging and his bones reshaping. He let out a roar from the forming tail and wings sprouting from his back, tearing his clothes apart.

Alduin cried, "I-I'm so sorry, Stan. Sorry..."

Stanley felt his nails becoming claws, and a snout slowly forming on his face. He felt that he can hear and smell way more now. He instinctively pointed his maw to the moon and roared once more as he felt the transformation coming to an end, releasing icy breath during the roar.

The red dragon was in awe over this gorgeous dragon in front of him, those green scales are a wonder... He blinked, regaining his senses soon enough, and hugged Stanley. "Stan, you OK!? Say something! I'm so sorry, bud..."

Stanley blinked, as if he just woke up. He returned the hug, and rubbed Alduin's back. "Shhhh, it's all right, big guy," he stated, surprised over his deeper voice.

"Now, let's get you one of my spare clothes, bud," Alduin directed the green dragon into the tent.

....................

"So... I didn't know you are like werewolves in those films," Stanley asked, sitting on one of the beds.

Alduin sighed, "N-no, it's just... Mother said that there is a certain... condition for our bites to cause this effect..."

Alduin did not say anything more at that, making Stanley cock his head. Is he... blushing? "And that condition is...?" He asked.

Alduin put his hands on his face, "What do you think about me, Stan?"

Stanley blinked, that sure was an unexpected question. He scratched his head, "Well, uh... You're my best friend. I appreciate you helping me out with my lack of confidence, bud. Every day is just filled with joy with you, and... I feel like we make a perfect pair!" He grinned, blushing even more. Both dragon's tails started wagging at this.

Alduin grinned, and sighed. "W-well, uh... Our bites can change other beings into one of us... based on this legend known by all dragons. It has to be... shared l-love... between the two... Um..." Alduin put his face in his hands once more.

Stanley blushed as well. That sure exposed both their feelings, then. He decided to remove Alduin's hands, and embraced the red dragon.

Alduin gasped, "S-Stan?"

Stanley smiled, "Well, the dragon is out of the bag, it seems. Yes, Al, you got it. I-I love you, my dragon."

Alduin teared up a bit, "Thank you, Stan... You're the one that welcomed me with open arms... I-I love you too." He decided to charge at Stan, kissing him.

Stanley jolted a bit, and returned the kiss. The two hugged passionately at that, celebrating the blooming feelings within them.

...................

The two dragons spent the rest of the night taking flight over the forest. Well, more on Alduin giving lessons on Stanley, and making sure that he did not hit any trees. The two laughed over this, and decided to plunge into the lake after the last flying attempt.

"So, uh... I guess we should tell the others about this, babe?" Stanley asked.

The red dragon put his arm over the green dragon's shoulder. "I think so, love. I'll make sure to take the blame here, so you won't get hurt."

Stanley grabbed Alduin's hands. "No, Al, we'll do this together."

The two cuddled in the water for the rest of the night, after sending out messages with their magic to their parents and the campus' headmaster.

"Say, babe, what do you say we give them a grand welcome?" Stanley smirked.

Alduin chuckled. "You and your nefarious plans... All right, I'm in."

........................................

Aubrey and Jake are in awe over the Huntington mansion. Even though the two are worried sick over seeing the headmaster, Augustus, with the famous alchemist and the leader of the Magic Tower, they never thought that they would have the opportunity to see all these magical artifacts.

Augustus mumbled, "Should be five more minutes now."

Grant sighed, "I hope they're not in trouble, that message sure was brief without giving any details."

Jake asked, "Are you sure we're not interrupting here? We don't have any magical backgrounds, I'm surprised Stanley asked you three to invite us here."

Teresa chuckled, "Oh, nonsense. In fact, this visit is long due when you think about it. Our son is having a lot of fun with yours, and we should have visited you two before... whatever this is."

Aubrey gasped, "Oh no no no, Mrs. Huntington, you don't need to visit our small apartment, really!"

Teresa laughed, "Call me Teresa, Aubrey. Really, we don't mind visiting. Tell me more about your recipes, I heard a lot of good stories from Alduin about it!"

The tension between the two families have been lifted quite a bit, with Aubrey and Teresa talking about gossips in both the human world and the magic world. Jake, Grant, and Augustus, on the other hand, started discussing about the magical competition that is currently going on in England, until...

The five heard the sounds of flapping wings approaching the garden. Aubrey remarked, "Oh, look, that should be Alduin, and... and..."

All of them gawked over the view. A green dragon and a red dragon holding hands as they descended to the ground, with their maws facing upwards. Alduin's flame breath collided with Stanley's ice breath, slowly being contained in a magical orb the two casted. As the two landed, Stanley and Alduin held the glistening orb and offered it to the parents and headmaster.

"So, eheh... Hey Mom, Dad," Stanley chuckled awkwardly.

Jake and Aubrey stuttered at the same time, "S-S-S-Stanley!?"

Augustus remarked, "O-oh my... Well, this is quite a sight indeed."

Grant slapped his forehead, "Damn it. I lost the bet, didn't I, Teresa?"

Teresa glared at Grant, "Yep, you sure lost and... Honey, you forgot to tell Alduin about this, didn't you?"

Grant apologized to the two dragons, "I'm sorry, you two. I was pre-occupied with my work, and I completely forgot to tell you about the potential changes. Do you... want me to reverse it?"

Both dragons shouted, "NO!"

Alduin blushed, "Sorry for shouting, but uh... I want to tell all of you that... I love Stanley. I'm happy that he will be able to live as long as me now, although..." He bowed to Jake and Aubrey. "I'm sorry that this happened like this without informing you two."

Stanley is worried. His parents kept staring at him, not saying a word. "D-Dad? M-Mom? You all right?" The green dragon approached them, but...

SNAP!

A flash blinded the two.

"Nice one, Aubrey, you always are talented with taking pictures," Jake laughed.

"The lighting works so well on those gorgeous scales too. Look at them two, so cute!" Aubrey smiled back, showing the picture on her phone.

The two dragons, Grant, Teresa, and Augustus blinked over this development. Augustus remarked, "Well, uh, I'm surprised you two are fine about this."

Jake chuckled, "Oh, we are surprised. About the change, that is. Not about their feelings about each other though. Regardless, we just know it's about time."

Aubrey added, laughing. "Stanley got his head over the clouds during the previous Spring break, you know? Kept thinking about something about a particular dragon and..." She smirked, "Oh, Teresa, remind me to show you his sketches! Stan was being clumsy this one time and I saw so many drawings of Alduin. The boy is falling for him, he's adorable."

Teresa and Grant laughed in return. "Ooh, actually, the same thing is going on with Alduin! He would get distracted whenever we talked about Stanley, the poor dragon kept failing his magic during practice because of that," Teresa stated.

The two dragons' faces are brighter than tomatoes at this point, even with all the scales. Seems like they're not doing a good job hiding them.

Suddenly, Augustus guffawed. "Well, then, I appreciate the addition of a new dragon in our roster! Welcome, again, to the academy, Stanley. I'll sort it out with the rest of the staff, don't you worry! This is actually a breakthrough, so do expect an invitation from me to observe more on you dragons."

The two cheered and fist-bumped each other, seems like everything is going to be fine after all.

.........................

And so, the weekend ended just like that. The entire campus is not prepared on what they saw. Two dragons landing right in front of the academy's entrance, the two holding hands as they get in their classes. The two laughed over the jokes in one of their typical conversations, with more affectionate gestures in public. Alduin and Stanley got quite the attention now as the first dragon couple, and the two actually gained more friends due to that. However, Alduin is already way past those thoughts. He smiled brightly at the green dragon beside him. It will all be fine with Stanley accompanying him for the rest of his life.

"I love you, sweetheart," Alduin stated.

"I love you too, my dragon," Stanley smiled back.
