Some? Some reaction? This was heartbreaking! I know, sometimes the prettiest, sometimes the smartest, sometimes the cutest, sometimes the one you love the most.
You come in to volunteer one morning, and they are gone. There is no recourse. You know they are dead, and part of you travels with them. My journal entry, "A fur of promise,... broken promise" was written using the grief from the loss of the smartest dog I ever met, to put a story to a piece by Pan Hesekeil Shiroi, her work was so good, but the story I used was me, and the smartest dog in the world, that I lost to the needle.

im so sorry. ive lost plenty of best friends to know that feeling. and none of them died of old age. either poisoned, shot, or run over. its messed up and unfair. sometimes i really hate the human race.

Things ARE getting better. This whole "Alpha" thing that That guy who has the dog training show in America? That's going away, Vets are understanding that fears can eat a dog or cat away to nothing, and that quality of life sometimes means not suffering, and paliative care is worth the money spent. I grew up in the 50's and teh rolled up newspaper was how I was taught to train dogs. Even before I got my first dog as an adult I knew that wasn't right. Things ARE improving, .... just not very fast. But they are. The website PetFinder is a great help.
