Modeling for Two - Prologue and Part 1
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
An opened letter was slammed down on a coffee table in frustration. Who would’ve done this? Glenn Lazarus; the moogle who had just received his rent bill, and he wasn’t a very happy one as of this bill. With his recent firing, he only had enough money to get through this month…well; keyword, had. Glenn placed an elbow on his coffee table and as he propped his head up, stared at the white walls. Racking his brain in trying to figure out his next move, he grabbed a highlighter and the paper. He flipped on a small lamp for easier reading. It didn’t take long before he circled various ones, not being terribly picky in job choices; after all, money’s money. With a sigh, in preparation for phone calls, he scooted out of the coffee chair and walked into the kitchen. Thankfully though, he had just enough money so he wouldn’t go hungry. He opened the fridge and grabbed the items needed for a sandwich and once assembled, walked into his living room. While someone of average height would find his apartment space cramped and small, any small creature; especially Glenn, found it comfortable and relatively relaxing. Taking a seat on his couch sitting criss-cross, he reached for the remote so he could temporarily distract himself. Casually, he took bites of the sandwich as he channel flipped. Upon finding what he wanted, eased into the sofa. This attempt was successful, and after an hour of watching TV was in a better mood; albeit one that knew he had to eventually call those said numbers.
Glenn took his previous seat at the table and took out his phone. With a sigh he dialed the first phone number: a secretary position. The usual dial tones rang; he waited as the number successfully went through.
“Hi yes, I was wondering if the position was available?” Glenn said to the man over the phone. There was a brief pause.
“Oh…I see. The position just closed. Well, thank you anyways…bye” he said to the other line. Exhaling deeply at another loss, he collected his thoughts as he refocused on the next number.
“Hello, I was calling about the ad in the paper for a job offering.” He said, though the man asked him general info.
“I see. Sorry that I’m not tall enough; thank you though. Bye.” He said as he ended the call, sighing with annoyance as it wasn’t his day.
Glenn slumped in the chair from a combination of frustration and hopelessness. He didn’t want to leave his quaint little place, or certainly not move in with family or friends. But he thought about it as the prospect seemed all the more likely. Groaning at the situation, he tried the last number. He tried again one last time.
“Hi, is the position for a waiter filled?” he paused.
“Anytime in general works for me…” Glenn replied before paused again.
“10 o’ clock works great, thank you so much. Bye~” he signed off as he ended the call, his moogle eyes lighting up with the prospect of a job; maybe things were looking up for him. Calmly setting the phone down, he threw his arms up into the air in joy.
“All right! Kupo!” he exclaimed to himself.
Though it would be tomorrow before the appointment, he happily cheered himself up to a cup of lemonade. His lips puckered at the slight sourness to it, liking it. For the rest of the day he went out to hang with friends, though not telling them because they knew that he hadn’t actually had the interview yet. Upon returning home he took his shoes off, placed his bandana on his night stand and tossed himself into bed. He would need a full night’s sleep if he was going to be at his best.
---
The next morning was like a stretch at a hundred meter dash, while he prepared himself in his usual routine. Glenn was one part nervous and one part excited; who wouldn’t be? Though he realized something; he didn’t have proper attire, having gotten rid of it in his last job. Slapping himself on the forehead knowing that he potentially screwed himself over, he would have to wear something that stood out. Changing into a green-and-yellow T and blue shorts, he was about to put on his bandana but figured he already looked unprofessional as is. So stuffing it into his pocket, he finished getting ready and jotted down the address. Glenn proceeded to head out into the crisp morning outside.
Despite Glenn’s best efforts, and even after an amazing interview, he didn’t get the job. Defeated, he his bandana around his neck before leaving. He casually, and in thought, slowed down his pace. “I haven’t really gotten any options, and I don’t want to move” he paused in his head, distraught and venting a bit before continuing “luck, don’t let me down!” he exclaimed in his thoughts before bumping into a pole; interrupting his train of thought. He looked up at first, then at his surroundings and realized something: he was lost.
“Oh kupos and feathers…” he said to himself as he got up. He had forgotten this part of town since he seldom visited.
Navigating the various blocks, he found a map of the city on a bulletin board. Breathing a sigh of relief, he wasn’t that from where he lived; having panicked over nothing. Bulletin boards were common place for ad’s and businesses; there was one that caught Glenn’s eye. Figuring it was a next-to-none chance and only a pipedream and for good reason; it was an ad for a modeling position, though it was hard to see with all the papers in the way what kind of modeling. Though knowing his odds were slim, he dialed the number into his phone and waited for the other side to pick up. Surprised, someone actually answered the other side.
“Hi, I saw your ad and was wondering if a position was still available” Glenn asked, the voice over the phone grew happy as Glenn nodded to himself, a smile grew as his face showed excitement.
“Though you won’t be a shoe in, regardless, there’s not much competition so who knows” the secretary said with a cheerful tone.
“Thank you, I’ll get there as soon as I can. Bye” he politely said as he closed his phone.
“Yahoo!!” he screamed as his comically jumped in the air before calming himself shortly to get the address. Upon doing so, he immediately went to being excited once more as he raced off. “Potential Job, here I come!”
Glenn arrived at the address. He paused briefly as he looked up at it, remarking that it’s rather professional looking; his confidence dropping slightly as he inhaled and exhaled. Going through the lobby doors, he found himself in a surprisingly homey place. Looking around for what he should do, there was a sign that read:
“Potential Models 4th Floor”
It pointed in said direction leading to a pair of elevators. Glenn made his way to and up the elevators; waiting while it went up. He figured that he might strike lucky. The elevators parted as he went out, not wanting to be late he made his way to a waiting room. Immediately entering, there was something in stark contrast in comparing himself to the others who waited: they looked out of shape. For a brief moment, he thought his chances were a bit improved, but still had to focus. Taking a seat in a chair, he waited as he would be called.
The receptionist called one up, an average bobcat got up and headed in. Though within the span of 10 minutes, the bobcat came out hunched over and hanging his head; revealing a small curve in his white shirt. Each one that was going in was of different species and height but there was one constant: they were all pudgy. Glenn hadn’t thought much of it, eventually being called in himself.
“Ah, and who is this?” A panda asked.
“M-Me?” Glenn answered nervously.
The Panda nodded before motioning for him to come closer. “We need you’re specifications” he explained.
As instructed, Glenn moved forward so they could get a better look at him. Other than Glenn there were three individuals. A middle aged panda who had a more homely than professional, a rather flamboyant deer who looked sharp and a gentle rabbit with long black flowing hair; all three of which were studying the moogle rather intently.
“Do a 360” the deer said as he made a circle motion, which Glenn did as instructed. “Could you bend and touch your toes, then turn around and repeat” the panda ordered and of which the moogle did; causing the facial expressions of the three to soften. The last judge, the rabbit, blushed as she giggled shyly.
“Do you think we could see you in these?” she sheepishly asked as she held up a small pair of briefs. Causing Glenn to blush hard and tense up in a rather embarrassing way, something of which the bunny thought was adorable.
“Th-Those pair of underwear?” he asked as he pointed to the briefs in question; the bunny simply nodded.
Glenn was inclined to say no, but he relunctently agreed. He was escorted to a changing room by one of the assistances on hand. He undressed as fast as he could. There was a slight problem, when he exchanged undies, as he was pulling them up they felt a bit too snug for his taste. But he had to brush the thought aside as he came out in only a pair on underwear. Making his way back to the stage, he stood in front of the other judges. While all three smiled happily but with professionalism, the panda crudely asked “Could you turn around and bend for us?” causing the other two to turn to him in embarrassment. Glenn gulped hard and did so, bending over as requested. The deer’s and bunny’s expression lit up with embarrassment and lust while the panda smiled. The creature turned around once again and faced them, trying to avoid contact as he did. Being professionals while at the same time not, motioned for an assistant with a clipboard and tape measurer in hand. The assistant violated Glenn’s space as he took his height, weight, and measurements including for an odd reason his belly size; something that caught him off guard. The assistant moved away and gave the clipboard to the three judges, all looking pleasant.
Their tones softened as they grew more comfortable. “We’re sorry that we had to do that, modeling and all” the panda apologized.
“I-I understand” Glenn replied back.
“Splendid job, not bad for a first time” the bunny said.
“The kid’s got the look and everything” the deer said, crossing one leg over the other.
The three briefly talking before the panda spoke, “While we’re discussing, you should get changed” he suggested. The moogle was happy to obliged as he quickened his pace when walking back. Upon returning with the used underwear in tow, an assistant directed him to an office where the panda would be. He took a seat as the door closed behind him.
“I don’t usually say this to new entries, but you met our expectations and then some” he praised the stout creature.
“It was nothin’” he casually played it off, even though he was excited on the inside.
“Please, we would like you to sign with us” as he finished, he pulled out some paperwork.
“You wanna hire me?” Glenn asked as he grabbed the pin.
“With your talent, you’ll go places” the panda encouraged.
Glenn shrugged and signed the required places, upon finishing; he and the panda put down the item in their respective hands.
“You’ll be with our smaller category, no offense” he explained as he stood up and walked over to a mini-fridge.
“None taken, and about my pay…” he questioned, though he didn’t want to push it.
“You’ll be given a check up front when you leave and we’ll discuss how much another time” the panda said as he pulled out two ordinary small bottles of chocolate milk.
Glenn saw them and thought it was an odd way of celebrating but he’s couldn’t complain. The panda handed him one bottle as he took another seat in his chair. In a celebratory manner, the two opened them up and clanked them together.
“Cheers!” they both said as they took a swig of the milk.
