I look over to the looming skyscrapers of downtown New York, my fur blowing in the wind, smelling fresh
pizza being made, I sit at my window with my headphones on, with a blade to my
lower arm. ‘just 1 more day, then the day of exodus will be upon me, this world
talks of a heaven and a hell, when this world itself is hell on its own.’ I
press the blade on my fur, forcing every blood cell of my veins to force its
way out, turning my white fur red as the blade runs on me. I hear a knock on my
door, I quickly put my sleeve down, hide the knife and open the door. “Dinner’s
ready” my brother said as he looks at me with a displeasing look. “ok, ill be
right down.” I said as he walks away. I put some bandages on my cuts and gone
down.

The next day I walk to the building, looking back on what led me to this ultimatum. When I came out in middle school
I was the lightning rod of the bullying at my school, I was so scared in there
I am scarred, my heart I wrapped up in chains and leave to die because I
believed back then love was weakness and pain and hatred is a gateway to true
strength. I got into multiple fights in my time; I had to fight for my rights,
to survive in middle school. I laugh only knowing that I laughed not because of
something funny, but madness, I’m very relieved that I’m finally getting out of
this hell on ea-THUNK!!! I fall back on my tail and rubbed the back of my head.
“ouch, what the hell man?!” my words froze in the summer air as I saw him, a
pure white fox which fur resembles snow, pure and white. “Oh my god I’m so
sorry” the fox said as he reaches out to help me. I grab his paw and helped me
up; his fur feels so soft, like fleece, paws so soft it feels like marble.
“it’s okay, nothing is damaged back there” .

He looks down and gasps. I look at my arm as it bleeds through the bandage and shirt. “your arm is bloody! Please
we need you to get a doc-“ I cut him off “ IM FINE OK?!” I ran past him, not
looking back as I ran to the empire state building, not knowing he followed me
up there. I look off towards the sun, and then get on top of the stone railing,
feeling the wind everywhere, people gasping, then I begin to lean forward but
someone grabbed my tail, it was the northern fox. “GET OFF! I WANT TO DIE!” he
almost begins to cry. “I’M NOT GOING TO LET YOU LUKA!” he yelled in the wind. I
froze as I gone back down. “How the hell do you know my name?” I say in
disbelief, he wiped the tears from his face, and look at me, my arm still
bleeding. “You’re ok right” the fox said looking at the trail of blood from the
elevator. “Um… yep im blacking out, goodbye.” I fall down onto the
observatories’ floor.

“LUKA?! WE NEED A DOCTOR!” the fox said, my eyes slowly close as I drift off to darkness. Darkness. Thick as oil
in a glass of water.  I see a light, swimming towards it. That’s when I open my eyes to a hospital, the fox at one
end, my brother and mother at the other. “Josh? Are you there” I look at my
mom, whose makeup watered from crying. “I told you, call me luka” I laugh. “I
thought his name was luka?” the northern fox said. I look over at him and sit
up, eyes opened now. “Who the hell are you anyway?” I asked to the fox,
fighting the pain in my arm. “I’m Jacob, and I know your name from people in
ascension.” Jacob admitted. I sighed and looked at my mom and brother. “Kyle,
take mom home, I need to talk to Jacob” he nodded and bring mom out of the
room. “ok creepy fox who knows my name and name is Jacob, why did you save me”
I said as he blushed, looked away and fettled his finger paws. “I’m sort of a
secret admirer” I burst out laughing but felt a screech of pain, apparently
laughing only reopens wounds. He blushed wildly now mad. “I’m serious!” I calm
down laughing. “ok for starters I’ve never had a secret admirer, it’s just
funny” I lean back chuckling. “Your laughing at a time like this?” he was mad
now. “What does it take to make me believe you!” Jacob said as his hazel eyes
stared into mine. I leaned forward. “Then kiss me to make me feel better.” I
told him with a since of sarcasm but I blushed as much as him when his lips
meet mine.

I was speechless; he begins to smile, sensing I was being sarcastic. “Now you believe me?” I nod, and got up.
“let’s go, I want to know more of you” we both walked out of the hospital, then
head towards my house in little Italy. “you go to ascension?” jacob nodded.
“yeah, but thanks for being a lightning rod, it sure as hell put some if not
all of the rep off of me” I begin to tear up, holding the arm where I cut
myself. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it” Jacob looked over and saw the multiple
cuts. “16 cuts Jacob, every one for each of my bullies, it tells me how many
people I swore I would surpass.” I told him as he looked at me in disbelief. We
walked into an alley. “But, why? Why did you almost jump off of the empire
state building? Why the cuts? Why luk” I cut him off now pissed off. “Because
nobody in their straight-as-an-arrow mind wanted to date me! They think im just
a punk who wants only to fight, who cuts himself for the thrill, who is a rich
poser, im not! Im… Not…” I sulk down a building, crying my eyes out. “Luka,
please, let me help you”  Jacob bend to my level. “then help me through this hell” I look at him. His eyes met mine, he
came in to hug me, his soft fur meeting mine, soft and warm, I leaned in and
finally met his lips in a kiss, this time he was speechless. “is that a way of
saying ‘luka please be my boyfriend?” I nodded. “you had me at beef jerky” he said. Puzzled at him, I look
at him once more. “I didn’t say beef jerky” he wrapped his paws around me, we
look at me with his eyes, green as emerald. “Well I was thinking of it” we
walked out and I kissed him on the lips.
