Glass Orb - Seiberling Mansion, Kokomo, IN 09-20-2014

This was made locally at one of the many glass producers in the region. It looks like it should be a prop in a science fiction or fantasy movie.

Reminds me of the eggs in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in the rocks and minerals section.

Very cool!

Back when I used to do stained glass work, I used a lot of glass from Kokomo Opalescent Glass. Good glass, could be a pain to score and break sometimes, but they have a lot of nice colors. Including one that is a perfect shade for fawn colored dogs XD

Well, you identified the producer correctly. This was part of a display on Kokomo Opalescent Glass. They had some really nice sheets of stained glass there as well. The problem was that the lighting was such that you pretty much only got reflections, so I have minimal good pictures. This was the best of them.

If you ever get the opportunity to tour their plant it's a interesting thing to see how they make the glass. I haven't been there before but I was able to go to a stained glass factory in GA once and toured it. They used basically the same process.

I have not toured them, but I have been to the Greentown Glass Festival and some other glass-related events when I loved in the area. I think that the Historical Society sponsors an event now that includes a plant tour.

We also have Hale Farm and Village in the Cleveland area. They have resident glass blowers. It is amazing to watch them work.
