ST1 Carmen Li - Color Portrait
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
From my novel series, "Daggers of Darkness":
Here's ST1 (Sensor Technician Petty Officer 1st Class) Carmen Li, an Asian black bear G.E.L.F., who is a member of the science team attached to Nightwing. Carmen is shown here in a berthing compartment on the ship. The ladder you see behind her leads up to an emergency escape hatch (always have to have an alternate way out of a berthing compartment in case of fire or other other emergency). Carmen hasn't been a PO1 for long, so both Lilly and Ivor both are senior to her (Lilly is due to make CPO later on in the year). Carmen is 185 cm (6 ft 1 in) tall, and weighs in at just shy of 91 kg (200 lbs). She is quite muscular, and has very strong arms. On her chest (not seen in this picture) is the characteristic "V" shaped patch of white fur common to Asian black bears.
I drew the basic outline of Carmen using a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil with HB lead, then I inked it using a Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen with black India ink. I colored her hair and face using colored pencils, then cleaned up the line art with a white vinyl eraser prior to scanning at 600 dpi and 48-bit color. After cleaning up the image further on the computer, I colored in her uniform, eyes, nose, ears, hands, and feet on the computer, applying fur detail, and applying additional coloring of her hair and face. Much of the background was created using Micro$oft Paint, with effects such as gradients added using Pixlr online image editor.

The uniforms worn in "Daggers of Darkness" are tough, yet comfortable to wear. The material they're made out of helps regulate temperature and is breathable, plus it's flame resistant and static-dissapative (effectively eliminates a static build-up from fur rubbing against it). Being on a military starship has its hazards, and the crew needs their protection. :)
Whenever they get the chance, though, they will strip down to their skivies and tank tops--even Cara does, and nobody gives it much thought. Of course, being the crew of a small ship, is different than the public at large. ;)
Asian black bears, sloth bears, sun bears, and Kodiak bears all have white "V"s on their chests or throat area (may also be "Y" shaped in sloth bears, or non-existent in the Sri Lankan variety).
