KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

Written by his noble Excellency, master Renier, Eclipse university

Note: The author of this work was later found guilty of hidding an elven rogue, he was skinned living, as this action was deemed a capital offense by the Justicium, the court of justice of the inquisition. It is not known, what happened to the elven girl, many people believe that she was executed as well. Others however suggest, that as a skilled rogue, she escaped her cell and returned to her people.

Year of Sovren 452, for over forty years now, the holy order of the inquisition has been valiantly defending the Hallevarian kingdom, named after its creator, overking Hallevarius the Conqueror. As it goes with every king or heir to the throne, his second name, added before his dynasty name summarized his personality and all the deeds he made in his life on the earth. He united most of the tribes, that once inhabited the lands of Hallevaria and formed more efficient feudal society over their former tribal ones. Based on our quest for knowledge, this all happened roughly 190 years before the rise of Sovren, our lord and protector.
Back in those times, now called by most modern scholars "The Era of Unification", or less pompously "The Unification Era", there was no noble order to protect the unfortunate human beings. They were often deceived by the dark powers, succumbing and accepting magic, whilst forsaking Sorven! Those heretics started preying on the common folk, accompanied by their pet monsters, they were ravaging villages and abducting fair maidens! Those were truly desperate times and no one, not even the king dared to end that madness.
During the reign of king Dilovran the Unworthy, the situation became critical, It was practicaly impossible to travel from one city to another without an army or at least a regiment of militia. The kings road was overwhelmed by non-human bandits and thieves and certain death awaited for anyone, who was reckless or stupid enough to enter the woods. But it did not end at that, no, even the capital city of our kingdom, our belowed kinghold became dangerous, as people started to go missing whenever the left their house after dusk. At first, city officials were pleased with the decreasing numbers of beggars in the streets, but when the daughter of the mayor went missing after spending a night with her paramour, everyone understood that there is a desperate need for a change. Those times before the establishment of the inquisition are now refered to by the scholars as "The Dark Age of Mankind" or more fittingly "The Dark Age for Mankind".
When his father died, our current king, Lothran the Confessor, was left with a great kingdom in decay. After thirteen days of meditating and praying to Sorven for help, he finaly emerged from safe haven provided by his castle and the inquisition was created on his direct order.
Ever since, the order kept the populace of Hallevaria safe and out of the reach of the monstrous beings lurking in the woods and mountains. With their primary task being the search for the primal evil, the hunt for Kayran, god of death and destruction and the arch enemy of Sorven. Kayran is described in the Book of Sovren as "Immensely beautiful {part of the text is missing} with scales as white as the whitest snow and eyes as blue as sapphires".
Highest ranking representative of the inquisition is the Lord Inquisitor, he is apointed by the king who, on one hand has only secular power, but is, on the other hand choosen by god to rule among his more common brethren. The powers of the inquisition are judistical, economical and military as well. The inquisition can even, given special circumstances, arrest and execute those vassals of the king, who are suspected heretics. Many people including me wonder, what would happen, if the monarch himself was found quilty of heresy. Current lord inquisitor, third person in history to hold that title, is our noble prince, lord inquisitor Kevran of house Heartfell.
