Always Remember...
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Even if all of Hell should turn against us, what we have is more than what our world can try to break apart. No matter how cruel the claws that rake flesh and bone, you are mine to cherish and beholden to.
The depths of my care for you is matched only by my desire to possess you.
You are the one who stirs my black soul, who calms my wild heart, and who pacifies the burning inferno within.
It is you whom I would give my life and more for if that is what it takes to keep you safe within my embrace.
My crimson love...may we forever be together throughout all the millenia which stretch before us, and may those who obscure our path fall before our combined might.

Unlike mortals, bad things don't happen to demons following something good, or vice versa. Things happening to them, they solve said things, and then they go back what they were doing before hand.
As we can see, he makes a handsome devil!
Like re-read chapter 1-4 again and you'll notice how a mental shift was already happening before and while Firebrand made his presence known throughout Brooklyn's life. The final push came during chapter 4 when Brooklyn has a final mental conflict with himself, after that there's no point in forcing him to rethink his stance. He had made a choice and lived with the consequences, which, if you noticed in the original show, that was a theme for him.
As for 'made him submit', that never happened. It was always Brooklyn's choice. Firebrand's honor when it comes to Brooklyn is never in question, so he wouldn't force the other to do something like that, though he is not above using manipulation on the other if he feels that a lesson should be learned.
Seriously, re-read chapter 1-4. I feel like a lot of the reasons behind what ends up happening with them is more detailed there because of the stance Brooklyn takes on the matter.
With regards to 'that part of the transformation from gargoyle to demon was a mental one, without him being conscious of it', he's conscious of everything he does as a demon, maybe more so than anyone thinks, but again, I was going for subtly over outright analysis of his mental state. Re-read chapter 7-8 to see how clear he is on his mental state with regards to his demon brethren.
Also, it had been close to thirty years when Brooklyn meets with the clan again in chapter 16.
I didn't realize it had been decades since Brooklyn had been separated from the clan. What was he even doing there if he no longer felt any connection with them?
As far as being the submissive partner to Firebrand, I kinda always felt that this was Brooklyn's entire persona. If you go back and look at the cartoon and his 'characterization', he's usually depicted as being in a position where, yes, he's doing intelligent things, but there's very little dominance in what he's choosing to make happen, outside of the Future Tense episodes where he has no choice but to be a semi-aggressive leader. Put that with ancient demon warrior and you basically have a recipe for a character who is, in my humble opinion, going to be more inclined to receive rather than take.
For your second point: He needed a way to make an easier path through the 'shadow world' he traveled into in order get back to mortal world. In order to do this he basically semi-coerced/manipulated Alexander Xanthos into an agreement with him in order to make that connection.
And the point of the connection was to have a bargaining chip in order to make Berlin eager to try and conquer the human realm, which would then put the demon lord into conflict with Lord Oberon in the hopes that the two would kamikaze one another, which they did.
Once that was done it would piss off Amon enough whereby the demon would capture him, which would then lead Firebrand to attempt to rescue him and kill Amon, thus removing the greatest threat to the red arremer (Firebrand and his clan).
Anyway I'm glad that the show still inspires writers like yourself to create fanfiction. With such great characters, it deserves it.
