I ended up keeping a Siamese monk adoptable from a bit ago because I hadn't gotten any offers on him. I'm actually rather glad I did because he's fun to draw and I can see myself having a lot of fun with him artistically. He still needs a name though lol
Anywho I really love how this piece came out. It started out as just a headshot sketch and just kept evolving from there lol. I lost track of how much time I ended up putting into this but....I'd estimate about 8 - 12 hours? Somewhere in that range. I'm thrilled with the end result though and already have a print order placed so I can sell prints of it at cons!
There was a lot of experimentation involved with this too. The paint is actually a mix of watercolor, oil, and standard Photoshop brushes, plus the pencil brush I use for the sketch (which is still visible! just very low opacity; you can still see it in some places). The ink is done with a sumi-e brush. I figured it was thematically appropriate. The result is kind of a Mucha/post-Renaissance/traditional East Asian hybrid and I really dig the look of it.
