"Kaiju ga Gotoku - The Old Guard" by James Corck
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
September 14th, 1862 - Hisamitsu Shisahara, shogun of the Satsuma Clan, was accosted by Commodore Charles Jabbert Woxingham on the road to Nagamugi. The English commodore disrespected the shogun in passing, but before a duel could engage, an English student named Ernest Duncow stood up for the shogun, and knocked the commodore in a single punch.
This incident would be named the Nagamugi Affair, that would spark a high level of respect and trading between England and Japan. Woxingham would retire soon after, and Duncow became an honorary member of the Satsuma Clan.

SO SEGA ANNOUNCED THEY WERE BRINGING YAKUZA ISHIN TO THE WEST AT LAST AND I AM SO, HYPED TO FINALLY PLAY IT AAAAAAH!!!
Anyways this commission seemed appropriate to upload! I had ideas for a flashback chapter back in the 19th century, to explain the origins of the Toho Clan in the stories. But eventually I realised there just wasn't enough to justify that, so relegated it instead to a single chapter of "Trading Steel".
This was part of some worldbuilding for the alternate history of Kaiju ga Gotoku, trying to figure how the world's finance and politics are different from ours. This particular scene was inspired by the Namamugi Incident.
It was a fun challenge to give for variety, to try some sepia tones for the old photography look that I love seeing. Funny enough, he had just done a commission based on the Oni from Dead by Daylight, so his armour-drawing skills were still sharp for this! His modern descendant will have a picture soon, for those who want more King Caesar goodness.
