Once again, I'm really impressed with the amount of detail that you think of when you create your design ideas. I'd really like to know more about what you were thinking when you came up with everything. Actually, one of the really neat things about seeing stuff like this is that it helps reveal a bit more about your setting. Considering things like nanomachines being mass produced it pushes the time or at least the technology to past modern day. Although that would make sense; technology always advances during a war and considering how violent the setting is I'm sure there's been no lack of improvement in both offensive and defensive technologies.
There are a lot of questions I have about specific things, especially the drones and some of the other unique equipment. But I do want you to know that while I really appreciate your responses I don't want to force you to do extra work. It's easy to tell that you've already put a lot of effort into doing this.
Before I get into any specifics though, there is one question I had just about the uniform setup in general. I'm assuming it's largely composed of a lightweight plastic, is that the Goretex you've been referring to? Overall it seems like taken together the entire thing would be very heavy, and that's always been a problem with any military. But the caption for this does say it's a team leader's gear, does the average soldier travel without the extra tactical and observational equipment?
And woah! Sorry, I typed the previous last night and fell asleep at my keyboard. As of now I've read your latest chapter and seen your latest art (both of which I think were overall very well done), and taken together they really show a big advancement in technology that I hadn't suspected. I'm really interested in seeing how this develops as your story goes on because I hadn't initially thought about there being technological advancements beyond the modern day. I don't know if that's something you'd want to reveal as the story goes on, but it's certainly something I would like to hear more about.
Back to the gear, I really like how you incorporated a lot of different systems and points into a single unit, like the helmet and the armor. That's a very effective way of including a lot of different features in a design without making it over-complicated. I think you included a lot of versatile components and I was especially impressed with the inclusion of the ones based in modern advancements like the smart fibers and such.
As for specifics, considering the introduction of the mechanical suits makes me very curious to the purpose of the drones. Although they seem to comparatively be a lot smaller, I'm very interested in their tactical or practical implementation. It would also be nice to know more about the firearms...I take it the ASMAR9 and Type 31 are standard issue? Did you base them (particularly the rifle) on something specific? I know some assault rifles have the clip set back behind the trigger, but I thought the reverse was more common.
One of the things I'm very interested in is the Type O sword. I wondering how much of a throwback from modern technology melee weapons represent. For example, the Wyvern sword is a very impressive piece of work, but unless I'm mistaken it doesn't have any technological implements. However, if technology is advanced enough to make nanomachines common use in the military, there could certainly be many different applications to blades. One of the most common ideas applied to swords in sci-fi settings is making them vibrate or generate heat to slice through solid matter, but there's been some modern implementation of using lasers to sharpen edges to only a molecule thick and hand to hand weapons that carry an electric charge and such. I'm interested to know what you've come up with.
Otherwise, everything certainly is very impressive and I really think that assuming the Kendrew government puts more or less it's entire budget into the military that it could very well be a highly effective set-up. Carrying all those explosives, though...better hope not to be shot in the wrong spot.
Sorry again for taking so long to get around to this. I really think you did do a great job, though, it would be fantastic to see more stuff like this (especially for some of the major characters. I believe I read in one of your comment's somewhere about Alexis' "Blue Vixen" sword/gun combination, and I happen to be very partial to gun-swords). Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!
(P.S: Sorry for bothering you with so many questions, but just one more: what's the electric drill for?)
The uniform, anyhow, is made up of goretex, a material really existing and already used, impermeable but that transpires. Externally, the uniform has also a special reinforcement of Kevlar-derivative fibers and nanomachines to add resistance. Plus it is chemically treated to be fairly resistant to flames and give protection against Nuclear, Bacteriological, Chemical and radioactive pollution. The armour worn over it is very protective, realized with a simplified version of Killer’s one, without steel to be much lighter. The gear is admittedly heavy, but you have to remember these are tigers and not humans, plus the Predators are heavily trained and chosen between the best and strongest soldiers of all the other units of the army (The five best men of every regiment, in fact). And oh, don’t be tricked by the Unmanned Combat Walkers… story will answer to all your questions. But they are not used by the Killer’s forces. Drones are used for reconnaissance in the operating theatre, so to gather informations about enemy positions and are equipped with cameras and microphones… I can send you the explaining sheets, if you want. The Type 91 Magnum pistol and the Type 0 sword are standard issue for all the military. The main weapon, instead, changes. Leader, Assaulter and rifle have the Advanced Modular ASsault Rifle AMASR9 with underslung grenade launcher, while the sniper has the Standard Sniper Rifle SSR9 and the gunner uses the fire-support version of the AMASR9, that hasn’t the grenade launcher but a light, foldable bipod, longer and heavier barrel for increased range, power and accuracy and rate of fire and that uses boxes with a belt of 180 rounds or longer instead of the standard 30-round clip. The design with the clip behind the trigger is called Bullpup and it’s particularly smart because it reallocates the firing mechanisms into the butt, allowing you to have a much shorter weapon at parity of barrel’s length. Smaller weapons means better balance, better precision, less bulk and significant advantages of mobility, especial in urban warfare. Barrel’s length is vital for accuracy and power, since a longer barrel means basically major speed for the bullet at the muzzle. Modern example are the SA80 of the british army, the French Famas 2000 and the Israeli Tavor. But the sword is, in a word, a sword. Simple. Kesteven foundries, anyhow, are the best in the world and the particular alloy of the blades makes them extremely deadly, even against armour modern. The only “techno” weapon is indeed the Blue Vixen of Alexis, that will appear later on in the story and it’s the one you see in all her pics… and it has a submachine gun in the handle. The electric drill can be useful in many situations, but mostly is used to open, rapidly and silently, holes into the walls, so to fit the cable camera into them and spy the enemy on the other side without be spot or heard. And as to the explosives, no worries. The PE4 is a variant of the C4 extremely inert. Even on flames, it wouldn’t explode… and the small electric detonators are kept attentively separated in another pocket, so there’s no reason to worry about that, truly. But yes… I’m always glad to answer to you, really. Never worry about that… ask whatever you feel to, sincerely. I’ll try to answer… and it’s my pleasure. I’m extremely glad you continue to like my work, and I’ll be waiting to talk again with you.
