Personally, I would rather have had the money for the F-35 spent for the F-22 or F-23.

I didn't even know the F-22 had been stopped, but it seems it was, sadly. I hope they know what they're doing. I thought they fit different roles, (air-to-air fighter vs multi-mission "workhorse") so the F-35 wouldn't be The Future per se.

The F-22 is an air superiority fighter like the F-15. The F-35 is more a light fighter-bomber like the F-16 and F-18. the trouble is, the F-35 is running up incredible cost overruns and underperforming. If we are going to spend that much, I would rather fix teh problems with the F-22 oxygen system and restart production to get the best fighter we have in greater numbers.

This is a philosophical viewpoint. There probably is no "correct" answer. I just want to see more bang-for-the-buck for all that Defense spending.

While it does look badass I still think the F-22 is better in everyway. It is my favorite fighter jet after all. Probably for good reason but my mind doesn't normally abide by reason in situations like this...
