Under the Shadow of the Spring
By GearFox98, correction Nyarlathotep13
It was a calm spring afternoon, Axel was coming out of the workshop, he had just finished a batch of figures for the fair. Luis had just finished publishing an application he had been working on for some time.
-Long day?- asked the deer as he looked at his partner, Luis closed his eyes tightly and stretched his arms on the chair.
-A little bit, I still have some things to complete, but it's a good launch candidate. How did you do? You're full of sawdust-.
Axel gives a thumbs up -It's all ready for next week, we just have to wait for the varnish to dry-.
Both did their work in a small two-story cottage near the house. Axel had his workshop downstairs, where he worked together with Jake, a childhood friend; Luis, a small studio upstairs. They almost always created something original, sometimes on commission.
After locking everything up, they retired to home, cleaned up and put on clean clothes for the rest of the afternoon. Since it was not yet dark, they decided to take a walk through the field of yellow flowers near the house. They took a blanket and a pair of headphones, put everything in a bag and walked around for a while.
The workshop could be seen in the distance. There was a fence on the other side of the scene, it had been there for years. Axel didn't know exactly what it was used for or what it bounded. Down a very slightly steep slope, there was a field of yellow flowers, there were so many that one could hardly distinguish one from the other.
-Do you remember the time you played the guitar among the flowers,- Luis suddenly said while pointing to the place where his boy was sitting, "It was beautiful," he said.
The memory came as if it had been yesterday. It was summer, it was a little hot and Axel had taken off his shirt before playing.
-Oh, and this is where we met, remember,- Axel pointed to a thick tree trunk, -We don't leave doors open anymore, do we?- he laughed as he said this.
There was nothing on the trunk except the bark of the tree, but the fox remembered an episode of creature neglect. -You almost died! That ink monster was going to crush you, how do you think I was going to forget that?-
By the vagaries of fate this had happened, or perhaps by the vagaries of... Kap? For Luis, it had been a crush to see who in the future would be his partner.
Axel takes the bag, opens it, approaches the thick bark tree and spreads it out -This tree gives very good shade and there is a very nice view of the forest, we can rest here-.
Once the blanket was ready, they both sat down, put their shoes aside, settled in and, leaning back against the log, joined together to listen to some music. They shared headphones and, almost seamlessly, did a kind of karaoke. There was no shortage of laughter when one of them got a lyric wrong or a song they repeated more than once.
Already exhausted from singing, Axel puts his head on his boy's shoulder, they settle into a more relaxed position in which Axel takes the opportunity to put his hand under the fox's shirt. Without a word they both stay like that for a while. The deer closes his eyes to better feel the warmth of his partner. Both wait for the arrival of the moon in the same position, it was a sin to move from such a comfortable position, but it was time to return for dinner.
