Peregrine, Tillian and Rose models (Stories of Aligare)
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Peregrine is an aging korvi man: he is a dragon too tired to fly much, who has depended on hearing aides for the last 80 years. But when plague strikes the insect-like aemet people living nearby, Peregrine knows the only right choice is to join the relief efforts. He asks his current ferrin assistant - the caring, keen-witted Tillian - to join the young aemet mage, Rose, and to help her nurse sick neighbours. Peregrine then wings away for supplies, wondering if Tillian would be better off without him in general.
Apologies for the bad resolution, but this seems to be the best picture left of these paper maché models. I made them in 2011, to represent the main characters of my first book, Remedy (A Story of Aligare). Peregrine stands about 15 inches/ 38 cm tall. He has lots of paper maché layers on him, so he's more than sturdy enough to stand by himself. Rose had an LED light in her palm, so that a small quartz crystal placed in her hand would seem to have a bright spark of magic in it. The LED's battery was hidden inside that tree stump that forms Rose's base. They were painted with acrylics, and finished with craft feathers, fake fur, costume wig hair, and clothing made from old sample swatches from a furniture store. I brought these models to various conventions as sales table displays. (What The Fur? 2011 was the most fun, no contest! Two nearby artists gifted me sketches of Peregrine and Tillian, which I still cherish.)
