-Epilogue, 1 Year later
“So, how was it?”
I looked up from my plate to see the smiling face that was looking at me from the other side of the counter that I was sitting at.
“Delicious as always Kitten.” I said with a smile after swallowing my food. “My complements to the chef.”
Xlilith turned towards the builtin window to the kitchen and spoke up a little louder than normal. “Hey Torie, you hear that? I told you you were doing a good job, keep up the good work.”
I smiled as a marbled colored Mauluse poked his head out of the Kitchen. He gave us a mousy smile “Only because you say so Lady Xlilith.”
Xlilith sighed and shook her head. “Please Torrie, I've asked you not to call me Lady. I'm not a noble, nor do I hold such a rank. Just use my name, Xlilith. If you got to call me something, go with mam or boss, but only during your shift hours.”
“Try not to be so hard on him.” Another voice piped up behind me. I turned around and seen another new face to the diner. The tan and cream Lycan girl stood there with a smile on her lips. “He's used to kissing the boss's feet.”
“I don't want my employees to be kissing my feet, Ly'rrica. I just want my mate to rub my feet at the end of the day.” I chuckle as I took her hand with mine and kissed the furry top. “Besides, I'd rather be known as Xlilith Quis Price than as Xlilith Quis Severa'ir.” My finger rubbed along the gold band over her finger as she leaned in for a kiss that I gave her. Both Torrie and Ly'rrica grinned at the display of the two of us before going back to their duties.
She straiten up only to give a light groan as she leaned over slightly and held her stomach. Ly'rrica sat the dishes that she was collecting down and got behind the counter as I had gotten to Xlilith's side and held her. “I guess I moved a little too suddenly for the little one huh?” Xlilith said with a smile as the two of us helped her to a chair and sat her down.
“You really should take it easy Boss, you got more to worry about than yourself.”
“I know, I know...” Xlilith said as the Lycan went back to what she was doing. “Think that I'm going to have to hire a third person to take over for me here soon.” Torrie came out with a cup a tea as I rubbed Xlilith's pregnant belly, seemingly settling down the growing life in her. “Sesillu.” she said as she took the tea.
“Koh-mra Lady Xlilith.” The Mauluse said, making Xlilith sigh.
“Don't worry, he'll get it eventually.” I say as I wrapped my arm around her. I start to stroke her hair, making her purr. “I think Maggie and Clark would be proud of what you've done with the place.”
“Do you really think so?”
I nodded. “I know so. Why else would she have you take over and inherent this place?”
Both of us looked over to the far wall by the entryway to the kitchen. On it was a small memorial to the couple, a framed picture of a smiling Maggie and her husband with a plaque that read 'In Memory of Clark and Magnolia “Maggie” Lubeck'. I heard Xlilith sighed again. “Its so sad what happened to them.” I nodded in agreement.
The two were from the frontier, one of the neutral worlds before the new Terran Alliance was formed. They were a family of five during the Colonial Conflict, two sons and a daughter. One was lost in one of the few skirmishes and then after the First Contact War started, they lost their other kids during one of the battles when their home was destroyed. They ended up drifting around for the next two years before coming here to Severa to rebuild their lives. Now, after 8 years the two of them came down with an alien disease, a Lycan infliction that mimicked the Flu virus on Earth. The doctors didn't catch it until it was too late for Clark and Maggie was already in the final stages. Xlilith thought it best to have a small shrine dedicated to the couple that, despite had more than enough reason to hate people and aliens, they devoted their lives to helping everyone they came across.
A bell rang drawing us away from our thoughts as a loud rambunctious group came in. I smiled as I spotted the tall Almedhas holding the door open for his Caushae mate. “Hey Asquen, over here.” I waved them over and Asquen smiled as he lead his family over.
“Hey you two.” Asquen said as he sat down at the table with us while the other 4 sat at the table behind him. “How's the mother to be?”
Xlilith looked down and rubbed her belly. “Honestly, happy. Yet I'm also nervous. I don't know what kind of Medi I will be, it has me a little scared.”
“I know what kind of mother you will be,” I said as I gave her a reassuring squeeze. “The best that you can be, just like you're the best mate you can be for me and soon to be the best wife you can be.” Her ears spade out in embarrassment to my words as she grinned sheepishly.
She brought her hand into view and looked at the engagement ring I got for her. “That's another thing I'm nervous about, do you think that your parents will except me into the family?”
“Well, in another hour we can ask them.”
“WHAT?!?”
“Easy.” I said as I prevented her from jumping up and knocking the table over. “I kid, Kitten. Yes my parents are coming, but they won't be here for a few days.”
Xlilith slapped me on the shoulder to Asqen's amusement. “Don't scare me like that.”
I shrugged. “Well, I got to get you ready for when they come somehow.” I grinned as I earned another slap on the shoulder.
“You two should be a little more careful.” Wyvera said from behind Asquen. “You have a mixed child and I don't know how it will effect either you, Xlilith, or the child.”
“Honestly, I just think the two of you are lucky.” Asquen chuckled. “What was your secret in knocking her up Calvin? I want to give it a try.” I could feel the heat of Xlilith's embarrassment and Wyvera smacked the rabbit upside the head. Earning a laugh from his kids and a chuckle from me.
“Well I won't say too much, as it was discovered by accident.” I said. “But I will say this, 'Milk, it does the body good.” Everyone, looked at me questionably, except for Xlilith who buried her face in her hands. I laughed to myself as I rubbed Xlilith's shoulders.
I turned my attention to the monitor on the wall and the news it was broadcasting. “We return to our story of the Lycan that has threaten several bystanders with a spoon...”
the newscaster never says XD
But I'm no master, there are others more worthy of the title, including the one that inspired me to write it the way I did.
I just knew what I wanted to write and to break my bad habit of not finishing a story
Heh, I wanted to show what happen to each character in the story, I almost had Calvin mentioned that he heard Vin took off and left the settlement. But then I had the notion for a news broadcast that involved a Lycan with a spoon. it was just a matter of how to portray it X3
And afraid Ly'rrica isn't her lost friend, at one point while I was writing, she didn't even have a name.
She was someone I had to show that Xlilith was willing to look beyond race and give others a chance per her character and to Maggie's lesson that "All Are Welcome Here." which was going to be on a sign have through the story but didn't know where to put it. ^^;
Though a little hint, if these characters do show up again, Ly'rrica is friends with (and possibly more) a marbled colored mouse
