Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
A rather adorable scene of my Felldewan Series: featuring the Noid hero, Michael, receiving a kiss from his she-bat friend of Veil Isle, Lunelle. In my Ensnared story in the works, Michael goes through many places, faces many enemies, makes many allies. He also somehow happens to be pretty good with the ladies, even though he tries to stay focused on his mission of saving Noid from the flames of war alongside Yuni. During his intimate moment with Lunelle here, Michael is in fact planning to head back to Noid where the revolution needs him. For the last few months, he's spent them on Veil learning about the history of Noid from the many scholar bats who practice knowledge over combat, unlike the warring insects of the mainland. During those said months, Lunelle has helped Michael learn plenty and has fallen for him in turn.
But Michael is needed back on the mainland to help Yuni and the insects win their freedom from their tyrant of a leader, to fight on the front lines of the war. He can't delay, no matter his feelings for his she-bat friend who painfully understands. If only things were different for them. If only they'd - the bat and human - met on different terms...
Anyway, moving on from my story revolving around this picture, this scene turned out absolutely breathtaking in my opinion. It's mystic, taking place during a full moon night. It's romantic, for plain reasons. It's different, seeing as the one is hanging upside down while kissing. But it's all turned out perfectly and I hope you enjoy this as much I do. "Lunelle, I... I don't really know where to begin..." Michael admitted softly, holding his gift to Lunelle - the moon Peach - tightly in his hand. The Moon Peach was a perfect gift for her, for them to part ways. The fruit was a rarity in Veil, a thing that he'd been lucky to find near the southern shores during his exploring the ruins there. It was a favorite to the bats of this isle. A meal that spoke to the heart. If only he could present it to her as a friend, not a lover. He had to resist these feelings in his heart, no matter what. "Maybe I could start my thanks... by giving you-"
"Heh, it's okay. There's no reason... for us to dance around the subject anymore, Michael. I know why you've come. You know why you've come. We both know what it is that you're going to say at the moment. What you NEED to say to save not only Noid but my home of Veil as well." Lunelle admitted softly without looking at him, hanging from her branch in the forest all of which was bathed gently in the silver glow of the full moon's light from above. With how beautiful she was in the eyes of Michael already, with her ebony hair flowing freely and her wings folded around her violet dressed if not grand body, the she-bat's splendor was only increased by three times as much at the moment. It was as if the goddess was truly testing the human; effectively putting him on the spot. "Michael, you're not the only one who gets to see the all mother of this world, you know. During your months here amidst my people, you must realize that we bats have seen this Gaia of yours; the Gaia that the bugs of Noid see as the moon moth. I have seen her countless times. In doing so, I have seen this moment many times in my dreams."
Lunelle suddenly, with him inwardly wishing she hadn't for she was so beautiful, shifting without a sound on her branch, turned to her human. She cast her purple eyes down at the ground at once, clearly trying to not tempt them both and ruin their destinies. Mind, that was proving to be a very hard thing for either of them to do. After all that they'd done for the last few months, after having learned about one another - human to bat - they were both so very close to throwing aside their cares and making one another happy. What did it matter that the bugs were at war in Noid? Had the human not found a shred of peace here in Veil? Had he not found a better friend - even lover - in Lunelle than he could ever hope to find in that wasp girl of a leader, Yuni, back on the mainland?
Yet, that was the thing. That wasn't how this event, the revolution back on the mainland, was meant to go. Michael hadn't arrived to Veil many days ago to be swayed from his destined role of ending the war. He hadn't come here to be distracted, to be disheartened, to be pulled away from his already obvious destiny. He had shown up here to learn about the history of Noid in fact, to learn of what allies he should approach on Yuni's behalf as well as what enemies to avoid. He had sought the knowledge to be found upon these isles, the knowledge that the bats had provided him altogether; the knowledge that he would take back to the insects in need of his leadership, use to gain the upper hand over his enemies on the mainland as well as bring an end to the terrible war there.
Indeed, whether he'd been willing to accept in the past or not, it was plain that Michael was to be the deciding factor that would end the fighting between the rebel leader, Yuni, as well as the icy queen, Yenta. The bats had foreseen his coming for ages. Lunelle herself had seen him in her dreams; a figure of righteous fire burning away the disgust that roamed the lands of Noid these days. The human's fires had once been wild. Now, after having spent so much on Veil learning about the past, his said fires were under his control. His mind was sharp, his spirit bold, his strength bolstered. He was the demon, the hero, that the rebelling bugs needed more than ever to win their battles. To win their future from their terrible ruler.
Thus, looking at all of these plain facts, knowing his destiny for sure, Michael couldn't stay on the isle of Veil any longer. He was needed on the mainland, where Noid would forever been engaged in war unless he stepped in and brought his fighting expertise to the right people. Noid needed him. Yuni, despite her hostile nature towards him, needed him most of all. And that was what Lunelle, hanging in the forest in the moonlight at the moment, speaking with her human friend, was attempting to come to terms with. Where maybe her outside appearance looked serene if not strong, where maybe she was putting on her strongest face, the bat was shaking with grief on the inside.
She knew... she had always known the demon was not meant to remain here in Veil! So why had she allowed herself to fall in love with him when he was meant to fall for another? When he was meant to fall for Yuni, that wasp girl? How could she be so foolish about this? Was she not so selfish about the ways of this world? She'd distracted her human from his goal ever since he'd arrived here. They'd fallen in love, despite their efforts not to. In doing so, by falling in love, she'd weakened his resolve for the war elsewhere; the war he needed to bring to an end! He not only needed to head off to battle but also be there supporting the leader of the rebellion, that girl known as Yuni.
For although her nature was a stern one, although her personality was a rough one, by the goddess's decree, Yuni was in fact the one destined to win Michael's affections. She would make the human stronger, just a he would make her, the wasp girl, stronger. And together, hearts reaching out to each other, strengthened by one another's presence, they would overthrow Yenta. They would seize the throne. They would stop this Great Divide and begin yet another Great Unity like centuries ago.
And if Michael was to do all of those things, if he was to stop the war, if he was to bring prosperity to her world, if he was to become a legend, Lunelle knew she had to make this farewell quick. To save Noid, she knew there couldn't be more than friendship between herself and the human before her. For their sakes, no matter how her heart screamed for her not to but her mind encouraged her to make the rational choice, the bat kept her eyes cast down at the ground as she spoke her mind about the moment at hand.
"It's time for you to leave Veil, Michael. That's why you've come to me tonight. To say your final farewell. Understood." She managed to say without breaking down, hugging herself tighter with her wings as she said what needed to be said; a painful but honest sacrifice on her part. "You do not need to... draw this moment of ours out. This will be hard on the both of us, being good friends and all. I would tell you not to go. To stay here and be safe, rather than march off like the hero you are to the front lines to end a war that is not your own. But you wouldn't listen to that, would you? No. For you humans end wars that are not your own back in your own land of Felldew. To end wars is humanity's way of living."
"The goddess would not have us live any other way. We live to serve. When we are born, as we are trained, as we grow up, humanity learns that there is no greater honor than to be the sword and shield of this world, Lunelle. I am... proud of who I am. I know you're proud of me too, for ending wars." Michael admitted, keeping his own voice simple rather than cave into his emotions. He shook his head, keeping himself in control as he stepped closer to Lunelle. There was a visible feeling of dread felt between the pair of them at him getting closer. They were both in love but afraid. They didn't want to start this... the end. "I am not here to dance around the subject anymore, as you said. Lunelle, I've come to extend to you my thanks. For everything. For helping me understand the ways of this world of Noid, of Veil, and more. I... I couldn't be as strong as I am now, not as wise, without your help."
"I merely helped. I did as the goddess wished of me." Lunelle replied, biting her lip as her love got closer. She suddenly wrapped her wings around her face, hiding her saddening expression from sight. "We are both parts in this tale, Michael. We have roles to play. I have done my part. Now... now you must be off and fulfill your own. I know what you are going to say. I know you are grateful. There's no more need for further words to be said."
"That's not entirely true. I still have... one more thing to present to you." Michael admitted, now standing before the folded wings blocking his friend from view. He noticed she was slightly shaking. She was so nervous at the moment. He too felt her apprehension, her despair. He hated to do this to her but Noid needed him. He had to go. She understood. She was dealing with the reality of it. She was strong in doing so. "I have one last gift. A farewell present of sorts that I hope will always remind you that you have been good to me. That I will never ever forget you."
"I do not need a gift from you, my friend. I know our friendship is a true one." The she-bat whimpered from within her wings, holding her face in her hands. She wanted this to end quickly. This was suddenly torture, hearing his voice. "I will always... remember you."
"And I thank you for that. I thank you for everything." Michael replied, nodding his head. He showed the Moon Peach - a treasure to the bats of Veil, the white fruit shining silver in the moonlight - as well as parted the wings of his friend. In the darkness of her hiding place, her eyes shining from within her domed wings, the silver peach shined true against the shadows as the human placed it in the distressed she-bat's hands. As she realized what she'd been given as a "farewell gift", Michael smiled softly before stepping forward again. Closer to her than ever, he was determined as he admitted bravely, "When I go back to Noid, when I fight who I have to fight to win the battles to come, when the days begin to pass by in a blur... I will not forget your face, Lunelle. I will not forget your generosity."
He grinned happily, managing to control his urges as he added lastly, "That peach. I hope it will serve as a reminder that you made a most fantastic out of me, my friend. When the war ends in Noid, when peace has been established once more, I will be sure to return to you for more lessons."
"You will return? Heh, you will survive?" Lunelle wondered gently, feeling reassured by the human's words. She clutched the peach in her hands tighter than ever, a valuable mark of their friendship. She was suddenly not so regretful of seeing him go. She had no doubts, no matter what, that they would see one another again, of course. This might be the end of their meeting today, but it would not be their last time reuniting. "Yes, of course you will survive. You are the demon that will bring the flames of justice forth. You will end all of the pain felt in the mainland."
"Yes. I will do that. For you. For Yuni. For this world." Michael agreed. Then, suddenly, he was shocked. Why? Because out of nowhere, her free hand holding his face gently, her wings wrapping around them both, Lunelle was kissing him. Not a simple kiss, mind, but a purposeful one that instantly brought forth happiness, hope as well as strength into Michael's being. He almost lost himself in the moment, feeling the bat girl making contact with him in such fashion.
However, the kiss was not one between lovers but the best of friends. And it was as the best of friends that Lunelle pulled away from Michael next, smiled as best as she could in the moonlight and placed his hand on the Moon Peach between them. Hands on the peaches, looking to each other hopefully, smiles on their faces, the she-bat whispered to her human ally, "Yes... You will do that. You will end the Great Divide in Noid and bring about ever lasting Unification. I will be here, praying for you all of the while, Michael. I will pray for you, for Yuni, for Noid."
"Thank you, Lunelle." Michael replied gently, leaning his forehead against hers. They were suddenly okay with everything. They knew their feelings. They knew they'd see each other again. They were both stronger than this, than to cave into sadness over this parting. They would see each other again, during hopefully happier days. "Truly, thank you for all that you have done. For all that you will do."
But Michael is needed back on the mainland to help Yuni and the insects win their freedom from their tyrant of a leader, to fight on the front lines of the war.
