Lunar Phase is a resident of Horseshoe Bay and is a dedicated gynecologist. She runs a well-mare clinic that doubles as a safe space for broken and battered ponies–those coming from abusive situations, particularly sexually abusive, can find solace within her walls. Her clinic is well-known for giving out free methods of birth control, exams and tests for ponies who find it difficult to come up with the funds.
Lulu, as friends call her, is a strong, independent draft unicorn [s]who don’t need no stallion[/s] who may at first seem laid-back and speaks softly, but even remotely threaten her, friends, family, or any sort of person (pony or otherwise), and you will be met with a fierce mare with a rage unlike any other. She doesn’t take kindly to arrogance and makes sure to put others in their place. That being said, she has patience for days and tends to give others the benefit of the doubt. She can make a powerful ally or terrifying enemy.
The idea for Lunar Phase came from another artist, who wrote about a pony going to a doctor’s office to take a pregnancy test. It got me thinking: Do ponies have reproductive health care? Shouldn’t they? Ponies should have reproductive health care. It’s only right. Her design is also reminiscent of Bjork’s “Moon” costume. I suppose some of her personality comes from what I perceive to be what Bjork must be like, a self-described warrior who fights not with weapons, but with love.
