The pair of Great White Pelicans at the entrance to the exhibit are the unofficial greeters for the exhibit. they enjoy interacting with people as tehy walk by or stop for a few moments.

That may well be deliberate. There is no "roof" on their exhibit. If they take off, the next palce they may be seen in Lake Erie.

Perhaps. They used to hand trim both wings, but perhaps they felt it detracted from the beauty of the bird.
