Starfall: Chapter 4: You're Pulling My Tail!
“I've had to have hit my head, Steven. Since when do Bio-Morphs talk!?" Steven looks over to Angela, shrugs, then looks back down at Usako.
“Beats me sis. Maybe she's a new breed?" Usako wiggles and tries to get out of from under Steve.
'Oh right, her injured arm.' Upon feeling the plug in her left arm, he eases his grip just enough, so he doesn't ruin the patch-job.
“I'm not a Bio-Morph, I'm a Vulpes Lagopus! Now will you get the FUCK off of me! My left arm is starting to hurt again." Usako rolls her eyes up to look at Steven as he stares down at her.
Continuing to move her arm's, she tries to pull them free, only to realize Steven's grip is too tight for her to slip one out.
“Don't you DARE Steven! She'll kill us, I mean, just look at what she did to me!" Steven open's his mouth but gets cut short as he feels Usako shift her body a bit, so she can jerk her head in Angela's direction.
“I won't kill you, you big breasted, wide hipped fur-less freak! What the fuck are you other than something out of a horror movie!" Usako sneers back upon hearing this.
“What do you call this then! I can't feel nor move my arm! What the hell are you? Bio-Morphs can't talk nor hurt a human unless they're defective!" Angela waves her good arm over her now limp one as she speaks.
'This is getting out of hand, if I don't stop it, she'll egg sis on till sis does something stupid. How to do that though?…' Steven looks between both of them as Usako returns Angela's sneer with a muzzle full of sharp canines.
Promising much more damage to Angela than what Usako has already done.
“I call it the consequences of aggressively grabbing an AMCAQ trained military officer like you did!" Steven winces as Angela barks out laughing.
In response, Usako again tries to break free from Steven's grip as he looks down at her. Instead of getting her arms free, he feels her moving to try to get her legs under herself.
'I don't have my full weight under her, if she finds leverage, she'll tip me over…' hearing movement from Angela, he glances back over to her.
'And here we go…' Letting one hand go, Steven deftly intercepts Angela's punch aimed squarely at Usako's head.
“Calm the fuck down, both of you!" Angela and Usako both wince at the force Steven puts behind his voice.
'Whatever he is, that tone of voice would fit better on a cervine or a large bovine like a water buffalo.' Usako looks up at Steven.
'Dammit Steve, she needs to be put in her place, to be taught to not challenge Humans like this!' Angela pulls her arm back, but finds it stuck in Steven's hand. Unable to do anything else, she resorts to staring at Usako.
Resulting in Usako literally barking out a laugh at how comical it looks to her.
“Whatever this… This thing is, a new Bio-Morph breed or an actual Arctic Fox, she's injured, and adding another bruise to her face isn't going to help Angela." Steven looks down at Usako.
“If I let you go, do you promise not to attack me or my sister again?" Usako strains her neck to nod once.
“I promise." Both Steven and Usako look over at Angela as she snorts out loud. Opening her mouth to protest but is cut off by Steven.
“Dammit sis, don't be stubborn!" Rolling her eyes, Angela gently yanks her hand from Steven's once he lets go. Gently Angela lifts her numb and immobile arm closer to her body, wincing at the pain radiating from her shoulder.
'I hope this isn't a mistake on my part. Dad taught me a few things that he learned from Grandpa, I doubt I could protect myself from this amcaq thing she knows.' With his other hand free, Steven shifts the rest of his weight onto the floor and off of Usako.
The moment Usako feels Steven let go she scampers out from under him, stands, before taking a defensive posture while taking a couple steps back. Searching for signs of them wanting to attack her or otherwise not keeping their word.
'Okay, they're not attacking me. I expected because of the way Angela was acting, Steven would've.' Her eyes lock onto Steven's as he shifts to sit on his knees before holding his hands up, palm facing Usako in a non-aggressive posture.
“We're not going to harm you." Steven looks over to his sister. “Are we Angela?" Angela just replies with flipping Steven the bird.
“For fuck's sake Angela, calm the fuck down!" Usako tilts her head.
'Is showing their middle finger a bad thing? Still, five fingers looks weird…' Steven slaps Angela's hand down, then runs a hand though his hair.
Angela opens her mouth, but shuts it as the sound of someone pounding on the front door echos up the stairwell.
Steven turns his head a little to look past her and to the second floor landing.
“Charlie, be a good boy and answer the door! It's Frank." Usako turns and looks down the hallway to the stairwell as Steven calls out.
'Why do they keep talking to this Charlie Mammal…' Usako whips her head back towards Angela and Steven as the latter's standing above the former, with another phone in his hand as Angela scowls at her brother.
“HEY, the FUCK Steven! Give me my phone back!" Leaning down, Steven glares back at his sister.
“Not until you calm down and behave sis. You were about to shock her." Steven points to Usako. “Weren't you?" Looking away Angela tries to hide the look of shame on her face while Steven straightens himself up.
“Thought so." Steven pockets, then walks over to greet Frank, who's stopped on the second floor landing.
'A third male of whatever species they are, his skin's wrinkled, so is he older?' Usako watches the two walk by as Frank glances at her before kneeling in front of Angela.
“So she's awake. I did hear what I thought I heard, right Steven?" Steven nods.
“I have a name you know! Usako Chasofito. Not 'her' or 'that bio-Morph'." Tilting her ears back Usako glares at all three of them.
'So she can talk…' Shaking his head, Frank places his suitcase next to Angela, kneels, opening it up.
“I'll call you bitch for all I care after what you did to me!" Frank grabs Angela's shoulder upon hearing her outburst, moving her higher up against the wall, so he can stare right at her. A look of disappointment on his face.
“I'm not a bitch, that's a wolf." Usako sneers back, her teeth showing and ears flat back.
“Angela Mercer! I know for a fact your late father and mother taught you better than this. Even IF this, oh-sako?" Frank looks over to Usako, softening his face a bit.
“Close, ooh-sah-koh kah-soh-fee-toh. Blame my grandmother from the old country for my name." Nodding once, Frank looks back at Angela with renewed ahnger.
Usako cautiously takes a step forward to look into the suitcase, a slight twitch on her tail showing her curiousness about it and how she's forgotten about covering herself with her tail in frot of the two males.
“Even if Ms. Chasofito here did this on purpose." Angela rolls her eyes, upon seeing Usako, she stares daggers at her.
“Frank, I simply grabbed her shoulder to stop her from running downstairs. I should've just let her go and let Charlie tear her to pieces for trespassing on his 'packs' territory." Letting out a sigh, Frank gently picks up Angela's injured arm, then the 'Tricorder' from his open suitcase to get a proper image.
'How did Usako do it though, that's what I would like to know.' Steven looks over at Usako, who seems fascinated at the device Frank is using, then looks away with a small blush of embarrassment considering she's naked.
'Why does her being naked feel embarrassing to see simply because it's obvious Usako isn't a Bio-Morph?' Steven moves slightly, so he doesn't have such an easy view from behind her.
“What's that you're holding, um Frank is it?" Usako reaches out to tap the 'Tricorder' but Frank holds up his hand, so she stops.
“How about you tell me how you did this to Angela, Ms. Chasofito. Then I'll answer your question." Frank keeps his eyes on the Tricorder as he speaks. Sighing, Usako looks to Angela, then back to Frank.
“I'm Amacq certified, she aggressively grabbed my shoulder after I was trying to run from Steven and her after they shocked me with this collar. Seriously, what mammal straps a collar on another mammal. Then shocks said mammal with a fox-away like taser whenever they try to talk?!" Usako grabs the collar around her neck and pushes it up a little in frustration that she can't remove it, or she'll get shocked again.
Blinking, Angela snaps her head in the direction of Usako. 'Fox-Away, that sounds familiar.' Only for Frank to reach up without looking to hold her head steady while he works the tricorder.
Seeing this, Steven gently places his hand on Usako's. Flinching in surprise, she freezes on the spot and looks up at him.
“Sorry. Just, if you don't want the collar to shock you, you should not mess with it like that. It may think you're trying to take it off and shock you." Usako yanks her hand away from the collar then lays her ears flat as she looks back at Steven before turning her attention back to Frank.
“Well to answer your question Ms. Chasofito, it's an imaging device. Yes, it is named after that one in that famous sci-fi show." Said device beeps and Frank taps the screen on it for a second.
“I don't know what kind of martial art's teaches practitioners to puncture nerve clusters, but, I'm glad you missed the one in Angela's wrist." Moving closer to Frank, Usako looks at the screen.
“I've never seen nor trained to take down mammals like you three. I just went for where it would be for a lupine. You're about their size." Shaking his head, Frank puts the Tricorder back into the suitcase. Taking out some topical antibiotic and gauze to bandage the puncture wound.
“Frank, why can't I feel my hand?" from what looks like years of practice Frank bandages it without even looking
'Huh, did Frank here use this device on me? He also called it a Tricorder, like that old show fur-trek? Weird.' Ignoring Frank and Angela, Usako picks up the Tricorder, looking it over. Then takes a look at the image still on the screen.
'I hope she doesn't drop it, I don't have the money to buy a new one for Frank.' Caution momentarily overriding his embarrassment at seeing Usako naked, forces him to watch her and tense to be ready to try and catch the tricorder.
“Most likely inflammation Angela, once it goes away you'll be able to feel your hand again. As for your obviously dislocated shoulder, you're going to wish that your arm was numb as well as I set it." Tying the gauze off, Frank tosses the remains of the roll into the suitcase.
He grips Angela's good shoulder firmly in one hand, then gently placing his other one on Angela's dislocated shoulder causing her to wince. The sound of bone sliding against bone surprises Usako, causing her to almost lose her grip on the Tricorder. Realizing she almost damaged it, and with the look on Steven's face in the corner of her vision, Usako gently places it back in the suitcase with a nervous smile.
“Holy shit Frank. Be gentle next time!" Angela curls up, rocking back and forth cradling her arm hissing in pain.
Usako backs up to allow Frank access to the suitcase, only to feel her tail con into contact with Steven's leg.
'Just great, I forgot he was behind me…' Turing around Usako uses her tail to cover herself while crossing her arms over her chest.
Ignoring Steven and Usako's antics, Frank takes out a needless injector then slots in a clear liquid bottle that was stored next to it.
“This should dull the pain Angela. Of course, no using the arm for the next few days let alone the hand. By then you should be able to do everything normally." Pressing the tip against Angela's neck, Usako's ears twitch at the hiss it makes.
Putting the empty injector away, Frank grabs a fresh roll of gauze to make a makeshift sling to hold Angela's arm.
'Wish they had that thing in the academy, would've made the required vaccine boosters less of an…' Usako freezes on the spot as Frank suddenly grabs her left arm, while Steven moves around the two before helping Angela to her feet.
“Sis, how about you go downstairs and make sure Charlie's doing what he needs to be doing and not slacking off, after that, you can go out to check on the rest of the pack." Angela rolls her eyes at him while grumbling.
“I'm asking as your brother, Angela, you need to calm down. I know from experience you won't unless you're removed from the situation, which means out of the house and away from Usako." Giving her brother a stern look, Angela turns her head and stares daggers at Usako.
“You're right Steven…" She turns her gaze back at him.
Usako looks down at Frank's hand and where he's holding her arm, noticing that some of her fur on her left arm is shiny and matted around the plug she sighs.
'Everything that happened must've re-opened whatever they used to seal it.' Relaxing herself, Usako lets Frank pull the arm a bit closer to wrap gauze around it.
“Okay, but when I get back she needs to at least be dressed Steven! Also, if I'm going to leave the house, I'll need my phone back." Angela holds her hand out expectantly in front of Steven. Sighing loudly, Steven takes out Angela's phone, but holds it just out of reach.
'I'll agree with Angela on that point, I could use some clothes.' Usako uses her good arm to cover her bust a bit more while Frank bandages the other one.
“Promise me you're not going to activate the emergency subdue command on our guest here, then you'll get it back Angela, otherwise no phone." Upon hearing this Usako turns her head and stares at the two of them with a look of fear on her muzzle.
'I've got a feeling she'll shock me regardless of what she promises to Steven. So he better not give it to her.' Angela groans loudly, and like a child before nodding.
“I promise that I won't shock her via the collar if you give me my phone back, Steven." Skeptically looking over his sister, Steven lightly sighs.
'I better not be making a mistake here. Especially since sis worded her promise like that.' Placing it in Angela's hand, he watches as she snatches it away from him, then pockets it. Smiling at her Brother, Angela storms downstairs.
Leaning against the wall Steven looks over to Frank and Usako.
“Okay, with that bomb defused, Usako Chasofito. I would like to know what you are, and why you're on my property to begin with?" Steven checks his phone once, just to make sure Angela kept her promise.
Usako turns her attention back to Steven as Frank ties off the gauze bandage, securing it in place.
“I would like to know what mammal's you guys are too, but since this is your property Steven and I'm a guest. I'll answer your question first." Looking down at the gauze bandage she nods to Frank in thanks before sitting down cross-legged on the floor, using her tail to cover her lower body while her arms cover her front.
Frank stays near his suitcase.
'I know she said she isn't a Bio-Morph, but I've only seen the arctic fox bio-morph breed walk on two legs. The only non-Bio-Morph Arctic fox I've seen was in the zoo when I was younger.' Steven glances to Frank, who looks back with a shrug back at him.
“Well, at least you're more polite now Usako Chasofito." Steven slides down the wall to sit down with his knees-up and his arms on his knee's looking at Usako while Frank takes out the tricorder from his suitcase.
“I'm normal three octets and four year old Vulpes Lagopus, Steven." Usako tilt's her head a little upon realizing the look on Steven's face is confusion.
“You… don't use the old system here, do you?" Letting out a sigh, Usako holds out her four fingered hand to show why the old system is the way it is. “I'm twenty-eight in the new-ish decimal system." Steven stares at Usako.
'She's older than Angela, and younger than Steven, or Mark if he was still alive.' Usako looks over at Frank as he moves closer to Usako.
“Oh! Base Eight because you have four fingers." Usako smiles at Steven as she wiggles them in front of his face, causing Frank to sigh.
“Here I thought you passed math Steven." Frank jests causing Steven to roll his eyes.
“Octet is a weird word for base eight, should've just used that… Or octal." Usako notices Frank has the tricorder out and in his hand.
“What do you want to do with that?" She puts a claw tip on the muzzle of the device, drawing Frank's attention.
“I want to scan your hands, if you'll allow me too Ms. Chasofito." Frank holds up the tricorder so Usako can look at it again.
'If I had noticed the four fingers instead of five I would've already scanned her hands when she was unconscious, oh well.' Frank, allowing Usako to Take it in her hands. Looks it over, then hands it back to Frank before nodding yes, giving him permission to scan her.
“I just have to hold still right? Just like you had Angela do?" Frank nods, pointing the muzzle of the device over Usako's left wrist.
She holds her left arm still with her right hand.
“And do all um Arctic Foxes where you're from stand on two legs and talk like you do right?" Looking over to Steven, Usako nods.
Opening her mouth to speak, Usako is interrupted at the sound of stomping feet downstairs approaching the stairs.
“On second thought, Here's some 'clothes' I want that animal dressed in as soon as you're done doing whatever you're doing. I'm heading out to direct the rest of the Bio-Morphs, I've also ordered Charlie to stay in the kitchen." Moments later, a heap of dull brown cloth, not much better looking than sackcloth lands on the second floor landing, then rolls into the hallway.
The sound of the front door opening, then being slammed shut follows shortly after.
“Give Angela a few hours Usako, she'll calm down then realize no one's to blame, as we all assumed wrongly." Scooting over to the bundle without standing up, Steven retrieves the now visibly child sized Bio-Morph clothes.
Just a simple set of feminine panties and tube bra made out of cheap cloth.
“Well, I guess I did go a bit overboard subduing Angela. Discipline is something we're taught, and I know it's not an excuse for my actions. Yet, I've had a VERY stressful day so far and my patience was lacking." Eyeing the clothes, she mentally sighs.
'Any port in a storm I guess, even if they look like rags.' Glancing back at Frank who's glued to the tricorder's screen. 'Can my hand be that fascinating?' Lowering her ears a bit, she looks back at Steven.
“To answer your question, yes they all do walk on two legs. At least the adults and kit's who're taught better. Along with just about every animal on the planet outside of reptiles, birds, fish, and purely aquatic mammals." Steven glances at Frank as he moves the Tricorder away from Usako's hand and wrist.
'She said all mammal's, and yet she has no clue what we are? Why does it sound familiar?' Steven gets on his knees and moves closer to Frank to get a look at the screen. Usako idly rubs her wrist a little now that she's allowed to move it.
“Either Usako's a brand-new breed of Bio-Morph, and kept in a Truman Show like environment till now for some strange reason. Or she's telling the truth about herself. See here and here on the scan." Frank points to spots on the image, which draws Usako's attention as she moves to take a look.
While still trying to cover herself with her tail and arms.
“Ya can't fake this with cosmetic surgery." Frank looks at the both of them. “There'd be too much scar tissue. Yet, I see none here! The wrist's double-jointed, I bet this allows Usako here to both use it as a hand, and use it like a paw as well." Steven glances over to Usako as he places the clothes on the floor near them, she shrugs.
“When we're young kits we walk on all fours till we learn to stand upright." He then turns his attention back to the image and Frank.
“Her thumb looks like it would be our Index finger, it's double-jointed as well, allowing it to become her thumb. In most mammal's the thumb is a dew claw and barely functional, Bio-Morphs were made with human hands, so they lack them. Doesn't matter if the breed they're based off of is supposed to have them, they just don't. Usako here, she has a dew-claw or what looks like the bare remains of one, right here." Frank taps a fore-finger on the exact spot in the image.
“It doesn't even break the skin and it looks more vestigial than an appendix" Frank moves to give Steven a better look.
“Do you believe me that I'm not a Bio-Morph now?" Usako glares at the both of them, then walks over to where Steven laid the 'clothes' down.
'Well, they 'are' rags, but my tail is getting sore covering myself to these guys.' Picking them up, Usako quickly dresses herself.
“I'm sorry Usako Chasofito, if I had known, I wouldn't have put the collar on you." Steven looks away from the screen and over to Usako, only to visibly wince at the sight.
'Fucking hell sis, you just had to grab the rattiest outfit we had for her?' Curious, Frank looks over as well, wincing at the sight too.
“Knowing what you are makes the slave look seem, wrong, Ms. Chasofito." He glares at Steven as he shakes his head once with a sigh.
“Blame sis, not me Frank. I'll find you better cloths for her later. Maybe I can pull out some of Angela's old childhood outfits." Usako tilts her head a bit.
“Steven, the clothes are fine for the moment, as long as they cover my modesty. What I do want to know is why you just said, 'if I had known I wouldn't have put the collar on you'. Does that mean you can't just take it off right now since you know I'm not a Bio-Morph?" Steven looks to Frank who shrugs.
'Don't look at me Steven, after all, you're the one who put it on her' Frank then motions for Steve to answer instead of him.
'Just don't attack me like you did sis at the bad news…' Running his hand through his hair, Steven faces Usako.
“Yea, that's exactly what it means. The collar's activated and synced to our house systems, and you've been registered as a Bio-Morph in them. If I deactivate the collar now, and delete the record. Both it's activation and deactivation updates would be synced to the national database, flagged by homeland security, and investigated. Even if the Bio-Morph in question no longer has a lean against it or is solely owned by the person, it's against the law to have a Bio-Morph without a collar on." Laying her ears flat against her head, Usako glares angrily at the both of them with her tail lashing back and forth upon hearing this.
“So, you." She points to Steven.
“While I was unconscious slapped a collar that shocks me like a Fox-Away taser if I try to remove it, and before you did something to it. I was also shocked if I tried to speak, at all. Couldn't you have, I don't know, acted like RATIONAL mammal's! Waiting for me to wake up before deciding I liked the collared look?" Both Steven and Frank uncomfortably look away from her rage filled gaze, the sight this drains any of the anger Usako had inside her over it.
'They did treat my wounds, so instead of thanking them, I yelled at them. Sigh, If grandma and mom were here, they'd have pinched my ears off for being a rude kit to these two mammals. Not to mention the talking to my dad would give me. They do look generally remorseful.' Walking closer to them, Usako moves to look each of them in the eyes to gain their attention.
“Okay, look, I'm sorry about my outburst. You went out of your way to treat my wounds even after I 'let' myself into your house and passed out in your bathroom. Few mammals would do that for a fox, and whatever you are ended up being some good ones. So, I'm sorry I snapped at you two like that." Smiling at them, Usako holds out her hand like Steven did earlier while also baring her neck to the side a bit like her parents taught her.
'I hope I'm right and the hand thing is a friendly gesture for their kind as well.' Steven upon seeing this uses one hand to shake Usako's hand gently while the other brushes her fur on the presented side of the neck. Frank watches this with interest.
“You aren't a Bio-Morph Usako, but you bare your neck like one when they show submissiveness." Steven lets go of Usako's hand and smiles. Turning to look over at Frank, Usako shrugs nonchalantly.
“Are we all done up here?" He watches Usako and Frank as Usako watches Frank cleans up the inside of his suitcase and closes it.
“Yup, unless anyone is hiding any injuries from me." Steven nods, pulling himself up to his feet using the wall as support. Stretching a bit he looks to the both of them.
“Good, because I'm tired of sitting on the floor up here. Let's go downstairs to the living room to continue this discussion, and possibly have some breakfast too. Due to all the excitement you caused." He nods to Usako. “I haven't had any yet." Looking down the hall to the stairs. Then back to Frank and Usako.
“You two want something to eat as well?" Frank smiles, stands, and picks up his suitcase.
“Sounds good. Beats the coffee I had after you called on the way up here Steven." He nods down to Usako.
“Since they don't want the pilot's puking during lift-off, I haven't had anything to eat since yesterday morning. So I'll take whatever you offer." Both Steven and Frank look at Usako.
“So that 'was' your suit that Angela found earlier?" Usako nods to steven, then follows behind Frank as Steven leads the group downstairs to the living room. Frank though stops at the stairs and looks back at Usako.
“Do you need help?" He kneels and holds out his hand.
“No, I'm used to traversing stairs geared to medium-sized mammals. Now if you were megafauna sized, then I'd have to ride your shoulder." Blinking once, Frank stands back up.
“Megafauna sized?" Usako nods once as she climbs down the stairs following Frank and Steven.
“Rhino's, Elephants, etc." Tilting his head a bit at this Frank waits for Usako to finish climbing down the stairs before following Steven into the living room.
Steven flicks on the lights as he continues on to the kitchen, Frank puts his suitcase next to the coffee table before sitting down on the couch.
'Their living room doesn't look half bad with it better lit. I mean, I could do without the flower patterned wallpaper. Yet I like the earth toned couch and chair. The wood and glass coffee table has a country feel to it, and they have a large flat screen tv and what looks like a boutique made computer in the corner.' Following Frank, Usako looks around the room before climbing up onto the couch.
Careful to not harm the upholstery with her claws.
Usako glances at Frank as he watches her sit down on one of the cushions, meeping a little as it compresses a little more than she expected under her.
“So you're a pilot. So how did you end up here?" Usako Shrugs as Steven returns carrying glasses of water for everyone.
Handing one to Frank, then handing Usako a child sized cup. He then sits down in the chair opposite of the couch with his own in hand.
“Charlie will be out in a bit with some food. Now, mind answering my question about how you ended up here?" Steven takes a sip, watching as Usako downs the entire glass upon tasting it like she's dying of thirst.
“I can't tell you the why. I hardly understand the science behind how that FTL drive worked, not for the lack of trying though. What I can tell you is this, I'm a lieutenant in the Anamaelian Air Force. I worked my way up to be the test pilot for the first FTL flight." Looking at her empty glass, Usako looks over to Steven.
He shrugs, stands, taking the glass to the kitchen. Once refilled, he hands it back to her and sits back down.
“Despite something feeling, off, everything went well and worked as it should've. That is until I entered FTL space and collided with some strange alien ship. It looked like a bunch of rounded rectangles or squares connected by cylinders and it was huge." Usako brings the glass up to her lips and drinks down this glass of water slower this time.
'That's not an alien ship. It sounds like one of the resource runner craft the states and a few other countries use. Similar to one of the ones my brother just died on…' Reaching over, Steven thumbs through a stack of magazines on the coffee table, ignoring the box they've been placed on as he pulls out what he's looking for.
“Is this what you ran into?" Holding the magazine up and open to a full page ad, it shows a photo of a pristine resource ship. Gleaming and shiny right out of dry dock. Heroically taking flight in earth orbit, the ad calls for all willing to come and help 'tame' the frontier.
Fame and riches await those who sign up!
'What the hell!' Bolting upright, Usako's ears go fully erect and her tail poofs out, nearly dropping the mostly empty glass of water in surprise at the sight.
“That's 'exactly' what I saw, other than the ship being a bit of a duller shade of brown." Usako points to it with one hand.
Sighing at this, Frank shakes his head.
“Of all the sci-fi media showing us making first contact, it has to happen like someone t-boned a car in an intersection." Usako looks over at him and shrugs with a tilt of her head.
“I'm not an alien, I grew up here on earth, just, not this part of it. Wherever this place is. Also, I didn't want to collide with it either, but my craft wouldn't maneuver in FTL space. Neither gas thrusters, nor the Ion Engines worked." Stepping forward, Usako places the mostly empty glass onto the coffee table, then sits back down on the couch cushion, no longer surprised by the divot causing her to sink down a bit.
“Thank you for the water Steven, didn't know how thirsty I was till I tasted it. Anyway, the collision, or the re-entry into real space must've knocked me out. Came too in free-fall, some fast action on my part saved my tail and I crashed onto your property. From there I wandered here and you found me." Steven places the magazine back on the pile, causing it to shift and revealing the spine of a video box. Title end facing Frank.
“Least I could do after shocking you. Glad you found the place, It's at least fifty miles to the nearest town. Anyway, I take it you wanted to ask us a few questions as well, right?" Usako nods, as Frank shrugs and takes out his phone to check the time.
Only for his, Usakio's and Steven's attention to be drawn to the kitchen for a moment as the sound of rattling plates echo's into the room.
“Yea. First, Steven, Frank, and your sister Steven. What kind of mammal 'are' you? You're about the size of wolves, maybe a bit taller. Yet you have no fur, no muzzles, and your limbs are longer than any mammal I know of. Granted there could be some untouched tribes of mammals in Africa or South Anamalia that few civilized mammals know of." Usako Idly scratches an itch on her left arm.
'Huh no such place and it sounds like an animal pun of America.' With his phone out Frank subtly searches for it, coming up with no results.
“Second, where exactly am I? This obviously isn't the United States of Anamalia. I heard that you were armed, they banned private firearm ownership four months ago, despite the veto attempt by the president. Not to mention you didn't know who I am, you would if we were there, after all they broadcasted my flight nation-wide. You aren't in Camalfornia either, otherwise you'd be breaking state law not having fixtures for mammals smaller than you, all the way down to tiny sizes like mice. Installed on stairs, bathrooms, and kitchens." Looking up, usako blinks upon seeing Steven and Frank staring at her.
“Did I say something wrong?" Steven looks over to Frank. Wordlessly Frank looks back to his phone, then pockets it.
'Those sound like parody names of The United States of America and California.' Running his hand through his hair, Steven sighs, then looks back at Usako.
“I'm sorry, I've never heard of those places. You're in the panhandle of Texas." Usako tilts her head a bit.
“Never heard of a country called Texas. Still, maybe you've heard of the city they launched the ship and me from into space. Zootopia? One of, if not the largest city in the country?" Nearly dropping the glass of water in his hand, Steven glances at Frank, then back at Usako.
'Did I just hear what I thought I heard? That was an old children's cartoon Angela, Mark and I enjoyed when we were young. Mom even made a Judy outfit for Angela for Holloween one year!' Seeing Steven's reaction, Usako steps off the couch and onto the top of the coffee table. Walking right up to him.
The vibration of her footsteps causing the stack of magazines to fall over, fully revealing the video box. Of the movie Zootopia to Frank and Steven, something Usako doesn't notice.
“You know where it is! Good! Is it far? You're going to have to take me there considering I don't have mission control's phone number." Frank quickly grabs the box and hides it behind his back as Usako's tail wags wildly in front of him. Only to stop as she holds up her finger.
“The black boxes! Okay, first thing after breakfast is I need you to take me to the corpse of tree's I crashed into. Hopefully the black boxes survived. Mission Control will want them." Steven holds up his hands and smiles at her.
“Um, that might be a tad difficult Usako Chasofito." Usako tilts her head at this, then ohs.
“Oh sorry, your farmers and considering that this must be another country, driving there may be out of the question. I assure you that the Anamalian aeronautics and space administration will be more than happy to reimburse you for any of costs of you chartering me a flight or somthing." Steven coughs politely and points at the table, Stopping Usako in her tracks.
She then looks down.
'Oh…' Smiling politely back, Usako carefully gets off of the coffee table. Making sure her claw tips, no matter how well manicured, don't scratch the glass.
Climbing back onto the couch she sits down with a small grin on her muzzle.
“Sorry about that. I, I just want to get back and tell them the good news. The FTL drive works, and I'm the first mammal to go faster than the speed of light. Still, what do you mean it might be a bit difficult to do so?" Frank and Steven share a look of concern, before Steven runs his hand through his hair again in frustration.
'How am I going tell her without her freaking out? It took less than a minute for her to harm sis like she did. Maybe…' Hearing Charlie's footsteps and the growing scent of food draws everyone's attention.
'That's…. Not a Wolf. It's some, weird amalgamation between whatever mammal Steven and frank are and a wolf. Wait, he has a collar on and is wearing less ratty clothing that looks like it's made from the same material mine's made from. Is this, a Bio-Morph?' Staring slack jawed, Usako watches Charlie walk up to the coffee table and place down three plates of breakfast biscuit's.
Each one made with egg's, bacon and cheese.
“Oh um. Charlie." Charlie looks over to Steven, his ear twitches. “This is Usako Chasofito, she's a guest. Do you understand?" Letting out a small wuff, Charlie backs up and heads back to the kitchen.
'Yea… Guest… Just like 'I' am with one of these collars. What are they going to do with her? She's not even fully grown yet… Also, what the hell is she? We can't speak human, and she's talking with them with no problem.' Charlie's and Usako's eyes meet, just for a second. His slit shaped iris's to her round iris's, before he turns his head away and walks back into the kitchen.
Once Charlie is out of sight of the three of them, he flattens his ears and reaches up to flick his collar in annoyance.
'I wish his younger brother was still around, he actually treated us like we're people. Yet he had to die didn't he…' The sound running water and clinking dishes echos into the living room.
“That's a Bio-Morph??" Usako shakes her head and points in the direction of Charlie went while Steven and Frank each pick up a plate.
'His eyes, they're shaped like a savage mammal, but they weren't cold like the ones that were shown during the savage crisis.' Usako ignores the sound of Steven letting out a sigh of contentment upon biting into the food as she looks in the direction Charlie went.
Frank puts his plate on his lap, looking over to Usako with a smile on his face.
“Ms. Chasofito, that is a Bio-Morph. Or to be more specific, a Red Wolf work model Steven and Angela Mercer named Charlie. We call them Bio-Morphs because the full name is a mouthful to say. Biological Anthropomorphic Robots doesn't roll off the tongue as easily. Please keep in mind, they may walk around like Humans, and can be trained to do some tasks humans can. Don't let that fool you, they're genetically programmed to do this and aren't sentient, more like a smart pet. The one you saw is the Alpha-Male of the pack that Steven here owns. I'm their vet as well as the Mercer's doctor." Closing her mouth, Usako looks over to Frank and smiles politely.
'His eyes didn't have that lack of warmth a mammal on Nighthowler would have. Something doesn't add up here, so I don't buy that. I still have to be polite, so I won't push the matter.' Frank picks up his plate and holds it under his mouth with one hand while picking up the biscuit in the other.
“So that's what you're called, Hue-man? I've never heard of that mammal species. Which is kind of surprising because there's a demonstration just about every other week in the streets of Zootopia over this endangered species or that one being oppressed by the government." Glancing at the remaining plate on the table, Usako points too it. Silently asking if she can have it.
Steven nods mid bite, so Usako scoots closer to the edge of the couch, picking up the plate in both her hands. It looks comically large, along with the breakfast biscuit on it. Placing it in front of her on the couch after scooting back, Usako sniffs the food placed on it.
Licking her lips, she picks it up and takes a bite out of it.
'Oh this is divine!' Usako's tail beats the cushion behind her into submission as she chews and swallows. Frank takes a bite out of his as well and nods to Steven.
“Yea, you taught Charlie well on how to make these Steven." Looking back over to Usako as she eats hers.
“It's pronounced Human though, and we're not exactly endangered…" Tilting an ear, Usako looks up from her food.
“Sorry about that, I didn't mean any offense. It's good you're not endangered, seems far too many species are these days. Still, there can't be that many of you, especially since they did those horror movies about that ape species, which died out in the previous ice age. They look similar enough to you they would've only needed to give you some more fur, and add an artificial tail. Much cheaper than the full cgi models, possibly would've looked better to. They looked hilarious when I saw one of the movies." Nearly chocking on the last bit of his food, Steven has to down most of his remaining glass of water to clear it.
“I'll take that as a compliment about how I look Usako Chasofito. Frank's right, we're not exactly endangered nor small number wise." Usako licks her fingers to clean them while tilting an ear quizzically.
“Just call me, Usako please" Looking to Steven. “Ms. Chasofito is my mother so Usako is fine." She nods to Frank.
“So how many are we talking about here, can't be that many. Someone must've heard about you if that was the case." Usako places the plate back onto the coffee table gently.
'I hope she'll take this well, maybe we can use this to ease her into the fact she just ate bacon and sausage made from pigs, an animal I do recall as being sentient in the movie.' Looking at Frank for support, he shrugs in return.
'Don't look at me Steven, I'm hiding the movie box from her.' Frank shifts in his seat so that when he places the plate on the table, said movie box doesn't come into view.
'Might as well…' Letting out a small sigh, Steven looks over to the computer in the corner.
“Computer." A small chime rings through the room, catching Usako's interest. “What is the current human population of earth?" Usako looks up at the speakers in the ceiling.
“Oh cool you have one of those new home assistant things, and you've changed the activation phrase so the TV doesn't activate it." Shaking his head at her upbeat attitude, Frank watches Usako.
'Please react well to this Ms. Chasofito.' Frank tenses up as the system chimes loudly.
[Current human population of earth's estimated to be, Ten Billion, Two Hundred Thousand. Do you want to know the population of Bio-Morphs?]
“No thank you." Steven says to deactivate it, sending it back to waiting for the activation phrase.
They both watch as Usako goes still, barely moving other than breathing. Slowly, she turns to look at Frank, then to Steven with her ears half folded back.
“Is, is this some sort of joke? Like that bunnyburrow sign? I know rabbits, mice, and rats multiply fast, but the world population's just a strand of fur under Seven Billion and slowing down." Steven and Frank glance at each other, neither wanting to speak up, neither wanting to be the focus of Usako's attention considering what she's capable of.
Slowly, Usako's tail starts to twitch in annoyance, starting from the tip and working its way to a full on whipping motion. Her ears slowly lower further in dread and anger the longer the two of them refuse to speak to her.
“I'm… Afraid not Usako." Steven puts his head in his hands as he leans forward. 'Please don't hurt me', then placing his elbows on his knees.
“There's no state of Camalfornia, there's northern, southern, and western California. There's no United States of Anamilia, It's the United States of America. Also, Zootopia, is, well, not what you think it is." Steven winces the moment Usako glares at him, her attention zeroing in on him the moment the words leave his lips.
'And I may have just made a big mistake.' Slowly standing up, Usako walks off the couch, onto the coffee table, then to the edge in front of Steven.
'We may need to use this.' He removes the movie box from behind his back, but stops short of stuffing it in between the couch cushions and looks it over. Only to wince at the sight of Usako's anger filled lashing tail, knowing full well what that means.
“You're lying! You have to be. Is this some sick joke for you Mammals? You're doing it because I'm a fox, right? Do you think that you can just tell me any old thing and I'd believe it like I was a dumb little pelt?! That's it! I'm out of here! I thank you for treating my wounds and feeding me, but I'll go wait by the crash site for them to come and get me rather than deal with speciest assholes." Snarling at Steven, Usako shows some teeth before turning away from him.
Hopping off the coffee table she marches over to the front door as Steven shakes his head slowly.
'Karma the nerve of some Mammals, just because I'm a fox doesn't mean I'm dumb or gullible. Ha! United States of America, California? What kind of fake names are that!' Reaching up, she grabs the door handle and swings the front door open.
“I… I wouldn't exit the house if I were you Usako. Please calm down, we're not lying to you." Usako snaps her head back over to glare at Steven.
“Just fucking try me and I'll do worse to you than I did your sister Steven!" Snarling back, Usako takes a step out of the house and onto the porch. Shaking her fur a little as the hot and humid mid to late morning air hits her.
Usako looks around to gain her bearings while not bothering to close the door.
'Now, I think I came from over tha…' Suddenly, the collar sends out a shrill alarm, freezing Usako mid-step before the following surge of electricity sends her to the worn, and hot patio decking.
“Shit!" Steven rushes over with Frank behind him, they pick Usako up off the patio carefully, carrying her back inside the house as Frank closes the door with his foot.
'Did… Did he just tase me with the collar, so I wouldn't leave?' Usako's Iris's, narrowed into slits bore into Steven's eyes as he holds her.
Ashamed, Steven looks away from her glare as they place her on the couch. Frank sitting near her feet, and Steven sitting next to her head.
“From your stare, I can guess you think I used the taser in the collar to stop you from leaving. I didn't, look, Because it's gone off so many times due to the bad settings, and the fact I hit the emergency subdue button when you attacked sis. The collar has been geo-fenced to the home setting for the Bio-Morph, and because it hasn't been paired with a residential container. Home defaulted to this house. So for the next twenty-four hours you can't leave the house without it shocking you like that again." Sighing, Steven brushes off some plant detritus from his hands and Usako.
“Also, because you tried to leave the geo-fenced area, the timer's been reset." Steven makes sure a small pillow is under Usako's head as he and frank wait for her to recover. The geo-fence tase is harsher, to make sure a Bio-Morph doesn't escape.
'Why would any mammal do that?' Usako only manages to move her head slowly to look at Steven as he talks.
'I don't think we're going to be able to talk our way to an agreement now. If I had to guess, Usako will think Steven and I are holding her hostage.' Frank looks at Steven, then picks up the movie case. Steven shakes his head only to be met with a stern glare in return by Frank.
Steven just slumps his shoulders and sighs.
“Why…" Usako's question's cut short as she feels a box thrust gently into her paws moments after she regains control of them.
The top of it has 'Animation Classics' embossed on it. Bellow it is 'Zootopia'. What draws Usako's attention is the confident 'smarter than you' smirk of the red fox she's come to loath center place on the cover leaning against the poster bunny of the ZPD. Albeit in an awful looking pawaian shirt rather than a ZPD uniform.
Moving her thumb reveals the face many predators like her have learned to hate, Dawn Bellwether. A sloth she doesn't know right above her and the former Zootopia mayor Lionheart above the sloth finishes off one side of the cover.
The rest of the faces on the cover, both large and small, she doesn't recognize.
Usako ignores the ding Steven's phone makes. With trembling hands Usako opens the case. Finding some kind of USB like stick in the shape of a red-fox tail held to the case with clips.
Taking out his phone Steven glances at the notification bar.
[Hey, bro! Has our 'guest' found my gift?] Followed by a smiley emoji and a winking one. He groans loudly and tosses his phone onto the nearby chair.
Good news is, it may not be the average wait of a 'month to two', as i am supposed to start the new position in a week and a half. That's if work doesn't pull some shit.
They've already tried to get another person who moved over to that area to 'agree' to come back and work in outbound til first shift leaves, after they've spent a full day at their new position. More or less 14ish hour shifts. That's if they took the 6:30am slot.
