Maybe it's a trait of multiple changes evolved in itself over millions of years; that can potentially have damaging side effects that may not be present at first, but over time depending on the dragon's health; and where they can change their clothes and body parts as they change from multiple stages, which is a learned trait from millions of years of evolution, which depending on the dragon...

I think YOU deserve a promotion yourself!

I guess you could call it a Revolution which implies a quick and major change, but that applies more to politics than biology.
