Man's Best Friend
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
But apparently not a Kitsunes*...
***Artist Info At Bottom!!!***
Where Lixiùy?ng** is from humans are just another species and not one she had much dealings with previously, as dogs are a human thing she doesn't know much about them either, and she's not particularly impressed with what she's seen so far, horrible yappy creatures.
Although she has taken Chinese citizenship, Lixiùy?ng is not Chinese, or even Terran, she's from another Realm entirely, as she states, "I didn't change, the world changed around me"
Despite being a total chatterbox she's somewhat cagey about her background, but people have managed to piece some of it together. Abandoned as a infant she was lucky enough to be found by a hunting party of Orcs. Lucky because for Orcs its all about the family, taken in and raised by them she had kind and loving adoptive parents, protective siblings and a mostly idyllic childhood.
Although there was some dark muttering and head-shakes from some of the others when she was first brought home to the village a few bouts of fisticuffs from her dad (and her mum!) quickly put an end to that, and the others soon got used to her, treating her as just another member of the village, albiet an odd looking one.
Gregarious and cheerfully violent Orcs are widely misunderstood by outsiders. They live in loose family groupings in a fairly eglatarian and anarchic society, the leader such as it is being the one who can stamp their authority at any given time rather than any strict hierachy This is a direct result of an Orcs inherent healing abilities, which get more refined and efficient the more often and seriously they are injured, though there is a fine line between an almost fatal injury and a really fatal injury!
To outsiders Orcs seem to be very rough and uncivilised but there are few genuinely vicious fights, accidently killing someone is fairly common but genuine cases of murder are pretty much unknown.
A relatively old and experienced Orc can have ungodly regeneration capabilities but luckily for the wider world, if unluckily for them, they have relatively short lifespans, with few Orcs living past their mid-40's, it is theorised that while they heal rapidly that also tends to burn them out on some level.
As a result rough-housing and violent play is just part of growing up in Orc society. Kitsunes however are as physically vulnerable as humans and recover at generally the same speed but unlike humans they tend to heal cleanly, given time***, even to the extent of regrowing lost limbs and body parts, but generally an injury that would kill a human outright would also kill a Kitsune.
Though every society has its jerks and bullies they quickly found out that although she's small, relatively weak and frail, somebody with a quick mind and reflexes, sharp teeth and claws isn't that easily picked on, and if that fails she always has a small army of siblings and cousins who don't take kindly to their little sister being treated poorly.
Lixiùy?ng enjoys rough-housing and physical play, one of her favourite parts of human society is the wide variety of fun and interesting sports to get involved in. Though it can sometimes be difficult to get her to follow the rules!
As a species Orcs have a relatively low IQ and as a result they tend to be somewhat insular and wary of outsiders, as they've been tricked and manipulated too often by other cleverer species. Its a brave person who trades with them even with the most honest of intentions as most don't relish receiving a broken back from a friendly slap!
Orcs breed quickly and have large families, with family bonds being of paramount importance to them. Although closest to their parents Orc society is based on extended family networks, everyone tends to raise everyone elses children with older siblings look after younger. Although reptilian in appearance they aren't reptiles, although their body-temperature regulation isn't nearly as good as a mammals. They don't display much sexual dimorphism and outsiders have some difficulty telling apart males from females (a quick way to accidently insult someone!), although not that much taller than humans on average they generally have a much stockier and more muscular build. They aren't nearly as strictly defined along gender roles as human society, a male orc who wants to help with raising the children and doing traditionally female roles might get some odd looks but there's no real social opprobrium attached to it and likewise a female who wants to come on a hunting party can usually make her wishes known.****
Lixiùy?ng tended to act as the frontperson and trader for her village, most people felt much more comfortable doing business with a Kitsune than an Orc although more than one person with less than honourable intentions had an unpleasant surprise when they learned they had to do business with someone most likely considerably smarter than them and not the dim-witted Orc they expected.
Although as a species Orcs have a lower IQ than others there are plenty of smart Orcs out there, though due to the nature of Orc society where arguments are generally settled with fists rather than reasoned debate they tend to strike off on their own as their intelligence isn't generally appreciated. Its a good rule of thumb that a lone Orc is a smart Orc, but without the backup of others of their kind and having to deal with the prejudice of outsiders and the suspicion of their own people they tend to have difficult lives.
As for Lixiùy?ng, she likes humans, finding them fun and interesting, though very strange, and violent in way she isn't used to. Orcs fight a lot but its most ritualised combat and chest-beating with no intent to do permenant harm, she is somewhat spooked by the fact that although humans don't fight nearly as often when they do they usually aren't kidding around and really mean it.
She has a facility for languages and picks them up very quickly, its not clear if this is a Power or just a natural talent. Kitsunes speak with a rather awesome feminine growl and she has trouble pronouncing some words but is usually fairly easily understood.
She is fascinated by human society, technology, and the new world she finds herself in, but she misses her family and friends and wishes she could find some means to contact them, if only to let them know she's OK.
Although with her upbeat and cheerful attitude people would never suspect it the fact that she was abandoned does sometimes prey on her mind, she rightly considers the Orcs to be her true parents, family and people but she does wonderwho her physical mother was, and she doesn't know who or even what her father was, she would also like to meet her brother***** and find out what he is like, questions unlikely to be answered while she remains in the human Realm.
An awesome livestream pic from plaguedog on FA. Go and throw money at her! If you need any convincing just look at her gallery and prepare to be blown away. :)
*btw I've noticed the similarities to the previous pic I posted 'An Autumn Stroll', its just a coincedence, or perhaps synchronicity? :)
** not her real name but one she chose/was given to her in the human world, she doesn't tell people her real name saying that its impossible for humans to pronounce anyway. The real reason is that she's worried people will ask what it means, which basically translates as 'little furry one', yeah Orcs tend to be a bit literal
***"How was I to know humans don't heal! It was just a friendly bite!"
"Friendly?!?"
****"You can't come!" *WHACK* "Ooowww, OK, OK, you can come"
*****Kitsunes always give birth to twins, a male and a female, if the global Kitsune population has fallen below a certain level the female infant will be physically a Kitsune while the male is always physically the same species as the father, they often have Kitsune traits though and are commonly talented magic wielders
